Won't you let me meet you at the pool?
Maybe Friday I can
Get tickets for the dance
And I'll take you, ooh ooh
Won't you tell your dad get off my back?
Tell him what we said 'bout Paint It Black
Rock and roll is here to stay
Come inside where it's okay
And I'll shake you, ooh ooh
Won't you tell me what you're thinking of?
Would you be an outlaw for my love?
If it's so, well let me know
If it's no, well I can go
I won't make you, ooh ooh
This song was released before most of the members of Starsailor were born.
Should I give up on the chance that you may add some more Big Star to the playlist? I've been asking for years, and i am technically incompetent so can't upload myself.
Still only this track in the library Bill
Copy this link into a browser and listen to a podcast from last year with Mr. Stephens that was quite enjoyable.
But then again, you probably got a whiff of all of this just by being there. Sounds like fun.

Magical all the way around.
Yes, I know what you mean.

Or could it be 13 year old lyrics???
It was written in 1971, so as of this date, they are 45 year old lyrics. Yikes!
Excellent documentary
absolutely !!!!!
I hope to pick up a DVD of it at some point soon.
It's on Netflix Streaming now... I just added it to my list.

This is one of the most influential and amazing bands, that failed to make it big, in the history of rock.
Unfortunately uploads of Big Star keep being rejected. Maybe I should try again with another of their slower tunes.

>>there isn't enough power pop played anywhere and it's about time it's played here on paradise. thanks bill. now how about some "shoes", "db's", early "nick lowe","20/20", "the posies", "the records", "dwight twilley band", lots more "big star", "cheap trick", "badfinger", "urge overkill" and the ever popular and more. (all which i sent to bill months ago... come on bill! whats up?).<<
Wow! I stumbled on Kurt's post from 2003 when he was pleading for some Urge Overkill (and others) here on Radio Paradise, to no avail.
Just wanted to add that I recently heard both Sister Havana and Somebody Else's Body for the first time in A LONG TIME, and you know what...THEY BOTH SOUNDED GREAT!!! I'm with ya' Kurt!
How about adding a little Urge Overkill to the festivities here, as it's never too late!
I hope to pick up a DVD of it at some point soon.
Currently making my way through this box set which came out in 2009:
It's got everything you'd ever want (and then some)...scads of demos, early versions/alternate mixes, and this vintage '73 recording just after Chris Bell departed where they opened for...wait for it...Archie Bell & The Drells!

What an amazing band.
Yes. Very strange: I don't think I heard Big Star at all as a teen—and that was a handful of years after the band split up—but this song took me back to those years when I first heard it about five years ago. Ex post facto nostalgia.
Please
How can this remain the only Big Star song on RP
Cmon man I'm begging you
Plenty of suggestions below
Bill is holding steadfast.
He did this with The Pixies for years.
He finally gave in but verbally complains every once in a while about his not liking the Pixies.
How could you not like Big Star?
This is his show.
And it's still pretty darn good... even without "September Gurls".
But it would be so much better with it.
"most underrated group of all time"
pls play more of them. even it´s way too late to pay them justice

Love Big Star.
Sadly, Andy Hummel (composer of The India Song ) passed away 3 weeks ago. We're now down to just one original Big Star member (Jody Stephens).
Can't we finally add some more of their songs here, at least while Jody's still around and maybe he'll appreciate them if nobody else will?
AMEN to that notion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are killing my ability to get any work done. Alex and Big Star are the most wonderful musical discovery I ever made.

It looks like I'm pretty late to the party on this topic, but is there a reason RP plays only 1 (ONE!) Big Star song?
I wrote this almost 2 1/2 years ago, and it seems like it's worthy of another positing...
Or "Life Is White".
Another great one gone. He didn't attain fame or fortune, but he was a big star in the hearts of many. Yes, Rest In Peace Alex Chilton.
If he was from Venus, would he feed us with a spoon?
If he was from Mars, wouldn't that be cool?
Standing right on campus, would he stamp us in a file?
Hangin' down in Memphis all the while.
(chorus:)
Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round
They sing "I'm in love. What's that song?
I'm in love with that song."
Cerebral rape and pillage in a village of his choice.
Invisible man who can sing in a visible voice.
Feeling like a hundred bucks, exchanging good lucks face to face.
Checkin' his stash by the trash at St. Mark's place.
(chorus)
I never travel far, without a little Big Star
Runnin' 'round the house, Mickey Mouse and the Tarot cards.
Falling asleep with a flop pop video on.
If he was from Venus, would he meet us on the moon?
If he died in Memphis, then that'd be cool, babe.
(chorus)

There should be at least five other Big Star songs here.
In the Street
Watch the Sunrise
September Gurls
O My Soul
You Get What You Deserve
I'd add a few more, but these should be there.
What a great band. So under-appreciated.
You forgot Balled Of El Goodo
"Paint it Black, you devil!" "THIRTEEN" (Bell/*Chilton*) Won't you let me walk you home from school Won't you let me meet you at the pool Maybe Friday I can Get tickets for the dance And I'll take you Won't you tell your dad, "Get off my back" Tell him what we said 'bout 'Paint It Black' Rock 'n Roll is here to stay Come inside where it's okay And I'll shake you. There was a music video for Paint It Black back in the days of the Midgnight Special and USA Nightflight. Very disturbing. Featured an overweight Downs Syndrome man with darkened eyes seeming working at an amusement park after hours. Lots of shots of him wandering around looking nervous and a roller coaster. I tried finding it a few years ago with no luck. The suggestiveness of it was way too harsh for today's sensibilities.
