Falling farther from just what we are
Smoke a cigarette and lie some more
These conversations kill
Falling faster in my car
Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience-laden
Time to take a ride
It leaves today no conversation
Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience-laden
Time to wait too long
To wait too long
To wait too long
Too much walkin' shoes worn thin
Too much trippin' and my soul's worn thin
Time to catch a ride
It leaves today, her name is what it means
Too much walkin' shoes worn thin
Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience-laden
Time to take a ride
It leaves today no conversation
Time to take her home
Her dizzy head is conscience-laden
Time to wait too long
To wait too long

So bloody derivative. Even back in the day, I just couldn't with these guys...and they were supposed to speak to me. That, and Scott's persona just grated on me...
No thanks. You guys enjoy...I'm gonna go to the kitchen and grab a sandwich or something...
I just can't with you getting a sandwich.
Excellent!
and quite tasty.
The Seattle sound was what convinced me a new generation would save rock. San Diego, Seattle, whatever. 90's bands made up for the garbage of the 80's
In my humble opinion, these bands were the last great thing in rock music (sounds very boomer-ish, sorry)

That is OK! You didn't get nasty about it, like some RP commenters! ...I personally like them.
Yeah, I was in my early 30's when this came out and my friends and I totally dug it.
Born in '70, pretty much the exact demographic STP was marketed to. And I loved them anyway. Those who say they were derivative are either buying competitor's hype or not listening close enough!

Not the original poster, but FWIW, I'm 61 and love these guys. Fortunately, you can't get arrested for arrested development! Or as my best friend often says, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood."

Would someone please explain to me how the generic noise of "grunge" is in any way meaningful music? It all sounds the same (and bad). And worse yet, it's boring.
Such an explanation would be lost on you. Why bother?
Before anyone tries to explain this to you, it would be necessary to know your generation. This music can be pretty specific in a you-had-to-be-there way.

I've always wondered if "Conversations kill" started out with someone mishearing "conversation skill"... so maybe not the worst way to mishear...

Yeah!
Hmm, but this tune is in standard tuning, not Drop-D...
Yeah!
Agreed, Vaseline my fav!
please Bill?
My nomination for the most hilarious post in the history of RP.
And I like STP. They have a solid body of work, some good range of songs.
But please......
Good analogy, Pearl Jam is Mick Jagger and STP is Keith Richards.
same!
I know it really didn't fare well with the "classic" crowd, but being a gen-x'er... I dunno. I just like it.
Only members of the "classic" crowd that were so closed mnded they thought anything after - pick a year 1975, 1980, 1985, was crapped compared to the Beatles/Stones/Who/Zep/Floyd whatever.
Guaranteed those folks don't listen to RP - too much here would freak them out.
Us over 50 folks who really understand and care about the music embraced all the good stuff from the 90s like this, the OO's and the 10's as well.
Rock on.
Well said Sir! Pearl Jam could not hold STP's guitar straps!

i be riding my dragon 2
Very much agree. They are criminally underrated. Never got anywhere near the respect they deserved. Rock critics stamped them, wrongfully, as Pearl Jam wannabees and no matter what STP did the critics would not let go of that.

Love this song, this album and this band!
I think they admitted that the riff for Plush was ripped off of Zeppelin. He heard one of their songs from inside the house while he was outside washing his car, so it sounded odd, but it gave him for an idea for a riff that became Plush...
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I've beeen really digging these guys again lately. Of course, I like them pretty good the first time. This was one of my 'summer anthem albums' I played heavily the summer of '95 (along with Weezer's blue album, and Belly's Star)
Too much trippin' and my soul's worn thin. . .

You're on a roll Bill, I can feel it.....
I think is one of the best rock bands from the 90's on, seriously

I agree...absolutely!

Me too. Well, not Atlanta specifically, but does define a certain time...mid 90's...I know how you feel. Next let's hear some Black Hole Sun. (not really)
Or as we used it when I was in the Army:
"Hey! You fucking fuck, what the fuck are you fucking around with? Fuck that fucking shit and get the fuck over here fucking right this fucking instant ya fucking fuck."
Ah, those Drill Instructor Days at Fort Ord, Kalifornia.

ahhh, good ole STP
I just can't with you getting a sandwich.
Too funny! I will brew another cup of coffee instead!
