Is there any bigger chance getting to know this wonderful kind of variety of music without buying all the records? I'm not sure, but I don't know any.
Thank you very much to all teammembers for giving me the oppertunity!

Love it! Sends me back to a bar in Dubai with Lebanese belly-dancers, near where I scored a kilo of the best frankincense...

Was it red or gold frankincense?
EXCELLENT!!  I had never heard of her, prior to RP. Now, I have 2 of her tunes on "My Favorites" list.  Thanx RP!

Where is this from? Just curious. Looks groovy.

I'm pretty sure it's a clip from Soul Train, sometime in the early 1980's from the looks of the shoes.

I love Arabic music, but I would only give this one a 6-7.

How could anyone downvote this gif? it's great !
What language is this? I hear crossover from Indian Tradition to Spangualalish

Liked it a lot until I tried to dance to it, now I need a chiropractor, stat.
ENORME !!! always love Natacha Atlas la rose belge
I like this but...is this an Arabic version of "That's Not My Name"

Voting 7 just to offset the haters...

this song is pretty good... most music that is proximate to middle east and indian flavors can be way whiney on the vocal and cause white people's ears to point... This is a nice smooth track... I wouldn't mind hearing more from this album and similar world artists....

wtf does the color of someone's skin have to do with it?
HA !  haters gonna hate and lovers gonna love....
if you only grew up with English lyrics and tunes/tones, that kind of music can be hard to like. Natasha is from Egyptian decent (her Arabic is not that good though) and lived in Belgium, and before going on her own was the singer of Transglobal Underground, a group that would certainly make haters hate even more... They mixed Middle Eastern music with Idian/Paki vibes and a bunch of electronics.

Personally I could do with a lot less Elvis Costello, Talking Heads, and Neil Young, but I don't go ranting in the comments, I just click the magic "PSD" button, et voilà !  Keep it up Bill & Rebecca !

I agree with you even though you have listed to say, Arabic Folk Musicians, I would suggest to check Lebanese alternative/rock/pop scene,  bands like Mashrou' Leila, or Who killed Bruce Lee, or Postcard, or The Wanton Bishops, or Scrambled Eggs,
or Ovid... Soap Kills have that melancholic/electronic feel...

I love it. Got to love how people hate it!

Now I know why it does not get played all that much,IT SUCKS

Why does this sound so...CHEESY? I know it's spoze to be cool in its ethnicity and all, but I think it just might be a bad example.
You know it's very interesting that you say that because that's how the song strikes me as well—cheesy. Don't get me wrong, I like this type of music but upon hearing this tune (I think it's the back and forth male/female vocals) I can't help but see those horrible Turkish music videos in my head with the incredibly stereotyped models of a male/female relationship. Maybe it's just the anthropologist in me.
Excellent!
Great that you have discovered Natacha Atlas! More of that! May I also recommend Warda?

I'm too lazy to do the research right now, but isn't this Turkish? Someone made the comment about giving it better marks were it in English. <-X Well, one of my favourite turkish tunes (I'm subjected to way too many, turkish pop being the equivalent of hip-hop where I live....) was bastardized by some pre-pubescent brit-pop girl. "Simarik" by Tarkan. Can we maybe get THAT on RP? Now that's some turkish rock that doesn't suck!
FYI, Natacha Atlas is half Sephardic Jew (African/Asian Jew, not European), half English. She grew up in Morocco and France, I believe. She sings in Hebrew, Arabic, French, Spanish, and English. She is also one of the singers for English band Transglobal Underground. I don't know if this song is in Hebrew or Arabic, but definitely one of the two. Though this particular song is more traditional than some of her music, fans of fusion/world beat will really like her stuff I think.
People either dig this kind of music or not. If your state line is the furtherst you've been to, you will likely not dig it. It's ok.

Interesting how some people can't tell the difference between indian and arabic music, which are quite different from each other.

Yea, you are.
Some of Natasha Atlas songs are written by the old (54) laser french man Jean-Michel Jarre! 13 days ago I attended Jean-Michel Jarres\' outdoor consert in Denmark - awsome!
nauseating.
I actually REALLY like this. It gets me dancing and moving and makes me feel happy. I bet though if this song was in English it would get better marks.

not too bad. you should check out some Talvin Singh for even better asian-flavored electronica.
You could make the world a better place by throwing this Amulet into the center of middle earth.

Very cool -- had me hooked within seconds and kept my attention all the way through.
