Too low to find my way
Too high to wonder why
I've touched this place before
Somewhere in another time
Now I can hear the sun
The clouds drifting through the blinds
A half a million thoughts
Are flowing through my mind
A satellite recalled your voice
Sent me round the world again
All the night you've dreamt away
Sent me round my heart again
One touch upon my lips
And all my thoughts are clear
I feel your smoky mist
Up to the stratosphere
Too low to find my way
Too high to wonder why
I've touched this place before
Somewhere in another time
Now I can hear the sun
The clouds drifting through the blinds
A half a million thoughts
Are flowing through my mind
Too low to find my way
Too high to wonder why
I've touched this place before

Now I can hear the sun
The clouds drifting through the blinds

( French Version )
Trop déprimée pour m'en tirer
Trop bien pour rien piger
J'ai deja connu cet état
Ailleurs plein d'autrefois
J'entends le soleil
Les nuages par les volets
Un million de pensées
Envahi mon esprit
Un satellite rappelait ta voix
orbite dans le monde pour toi
Tu as revé toute la nuit
En envie de mon coeur
Je t'effleures des levres et puis
Ca me donne les idées claires
Je sens ton suc se dissiper
Jusqu'a la stratosphere
Trop déprimée pour m'en tirer
Trop bien pour rien piger
J'ai deja connu cet état

She returned to Twin Oaks after her nervous breakdown. In 1981, she settled in the Washington area with Branwyn, a freelance technical writer whom she met at the commune. With her guitar, she was soon playing folk-heavy music at a health food restaurant called Food for Thought, where she met Mary Chapin Carpenter. "We got together a few times to sort of jam and pick and grin, and then she became the world's most famous folk and country crossover artist," she told Stokes. Increasingly interested in jazz, she began expanding her songbook. After Harris spotted her at Charlie's Georgetown, they formed Mad Romance, which played at Blues Alley, the Monterey Jazz Festival and the Blue Note in New York. After the group disbanded in 1987, she and Harris continued to sing duets at area clubs and made several inventive, sprightly albums. A musical restlessness persisted, though, and she later moved in other directions. "As the '90s wore on," she told Stokes, "I felt an urge to break out of such a straight-laced jazz frame of mind and repertoire. I said: 'Jazz, like crime, doesn't pay. Pam Bricker, the vocalist on this track, was found dead the other day, a victim of suicide. Here is the obit from the Washington Post - The Warshington Post wrote:

I remember both from the mid/late 70s when I was stationed in the UK. Blond Lebanese was OK, but Red Lebanese was the BOMB! Red sticky tar ball that had a nice peppery taste, IIRC. Ahhhh memories.....
Wish I could find some Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers comics.

Not exactly. TC started out as two guys doing nothing but sampling creating lounge music. The name "thievery" comes from stealing song samples, so to speak. Overtime they developed a band to create the sound they created using samples. They're really not one or the other, but both.
Acid jazz? Only here on RP would one find that.

I like the Beer reference. But Skunk is to good blow what IPA is compared to a (La Trappe) Tripel.

When I first got clued in to TC right here on RP I thought it was just a really good electronic band. Come to find out that almost all of their music is done instrumentally and vocally. Very little comes from the computer. Thanks RP for cluing me into another great band.

Oh, YES! A fave song - and third in a most impressive, applause-worthy set from Bill today:
Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Peter Gabriel - Of These, Hope
Thievery Corporation - Lebanese Blonde
(I only wish I had been at my desk for Shawn Colvin - Shotgun Down the Avalanche and Florence + The Machine - Long & Lost a few songs prior!)

When I look out my window
Many sights to see
And when I look in my window
So many different people to be
Many sights to see
And when I look in my window
So many different people to be
That it's strange, so strange
You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
You've got to pick up every stitch
Mmm-mm-mmm, must be the season of the witch
Must be the season of the witch, yeah
Must be the season of the witch

A staple in my playlists. Thievery Corp was one of the best Chill groups to come out of trip hop.
Just bumped this to a 10. It's a 16 year old song that has aged well. It's so smooth and mellow. I always stop to take the song in when it comes on.

This song is in A minor, Mr. Leitch's tune is in A major. The bass line is similar though, but each has only five different notes.
Even after listening to this tune how many times, I just now heard the bass line as Donovan's "Season of the Witch". Kinda cool. It's not exactly the same riff, but a similar progression. Sounds like it's probably in the same key too.

Even after listening to this tune how many times, I just now heard the bass line as Donovan's "Season of the Witch". Kinda cool. It's not exactly the same riff, but a similar progression. Sounds like it's probably in the same key too.
Hmmm, a song about hashish?
Too low to find my way, too high to wonder why...

NEW CD out (very much Bossanova influenced) - where is it, Bill....?
Not that this is a bad song - certainly not!

It is certainly similar to Donovan's two-chord jam, but this tune seems to have at least a third chord.
BTW, is this the season of the witch?

Yes. nearly the same bass line.
So used to the English version... this one does a number on my head.

That is because we are a bilingual nation, and ''blonde'' works in English and in French.
(BTW ''blonde'' has an alternate meaning in French: girlfriend.)
just sayin'

Hope its smoother than the Blonde. I always coughed my lungs out on that.
My favorite was the Turkish Camel Shit stuff.
Taliban Black is the New Lebanese Blond. (inside joke for those who like that kind of thing)

Still looking for the scansion marks.......
I just think the scansion and rhythm of the vocals work a little better in the english version. I admit it could be because that's the version I've heard first and most.
