Well I married me a wife
She gave me trouble all my life
She ran me out in the cold rain and snow
Rain and snow, rain and snow
She ran me out in the cold rain and snow

She came a runnin on down the stairs
Combin' back her long yellow hair
And her cheeks were as red as a rose
As a rose, as a rose
And her cheeks were as red as a rose

Well I ain't got no use
For your red apple juice
And I'm not gonna be treated this a way
This a way this a way
And I'm not gonna be treated this way

I see you sitting in the shade
Counting every dime I've made
I'm so broke and I'm hungry too
Hungry too, hungry too
I'm so broke and I'm hungry too
I'm so broke and I'm hungry too

Well I married me a wife
She gave me trouble all my life
She ran me out in the cold rain and snow
Rain and snow, rain and snow
She ran me out in the cold rain and snow

I really like these ladies. An interesting mutant form of bluegrass. Good stuff.
Thank you for this kind song cover!
Sounds like a young Dolly Parton to me.
Can't help myself, but this band name is great, and a hit on education for all Lucies;))
There seems to be a Dead cover theme this morning.  We have heard a number of artists covering the G.D.  song book.  This was always a Phil Lesh Favorite...
Still just fantastic!

In my opinion Frazey's unique sound is a good part of the charm of this group. Of course I'm likely prejudiced as they are a local group
An excellent rendition of an old favorite.

So  true "5"
Worst cover of a fantastic song...  I've heard a thousand myself and sung a few myself.  Just terrible.  The instruments sound reasonably good except for the terrible micing/recording of the Acoustic guitar at the outset.

When this band is being played, I tend to check the playlist whether I have given a 10 already. Usually I have.
check out Chinatown-a great introduction to The Be Good Tanyas

The fact that it isn't the bloody Grateful Dead means it gets an extra +1 from me.
Cool song.  I like her voice!

I sent an email to Bill asking pretty please to remove the clickfaster flicker gif on 6/22/20.
They are such good writers, or maybe she does all of it... but moments come to life.
What a lackluster cover of this song.. loses all the exciting pacing of a Grateful Dead version.
nice sweet groove
Noooooooooo
I like the song.

Frazie Ford is doing just fine, thank you.

Edit Yes, she was born with a  vibrato.
Best Canadian Band ever.

Beautifully harmonizing "guitar".

To get that level of quivering vibrato she's either pulling at her throat or standing on an earthquake simulator. I quite like most of the BGT songs on RP, but this voice gets to me the wrong way. 4 from the Nottingham jury.

Washing machine on the spin cycle.
Ahhh Medicine.  Probably quite good in its own right but even better now after 2 tracks I really don't like.
Guess I'm just NOT a "Tanyas" fan.
The harmonizing mandolin is simple but godlike!

Frazey Ford has a new-ish album out, it's quite good. Slightly (but only slightly) less twangy than BGTs. Make of that what you wish.

Relax Fred......It's about the water.  Plus it reminds me of how much I admire Rebecca dialing in on the RP Playlist !  Peace {#Angel}

I'm not instantly familiar with Mr. Yorke, but MY line is drawn at 'Cowboy Troy'. BTW, LOVE BGT. c.

Furst time I've heard this band, enjoying the simple guitars
I really love this, but my jury is still out on some of the Tanyas numbers. I think they will take me by storm later!

This is perhaps their best tune.(8) I enjoy vocals that are unique. Thanks RP!

I think this is going to be the case with a lot of vocal stylists who get outside a mainstream style of delivery. I enjoy this kind of styling -- it's interesting and adds nuance to the song. But then, I think Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris are also great stylists, and I know they're not for everyone either. That's why it's a risk, I guess. You're aiming for a higher artistic plain, but you almost inevitably alienate some listeners.

Thank you Mari. Sometimes we are deaf and blind. Somebody from the other side of the world has to show you something great that's in your own backyard. Found the Tanyas because of you and they sure grow on me now.

I'm with you on this one. Every time a BGT song comes on RP I can't turn it off fast enough. It's a real shame, since I like the backing music. Agree 100%. Blue Horse is a terrific album. Never would've found out about these ladies if it wasn't for RP. I dig the reggae-like groove on this track. BTW, Po'Girl (other band with one of the BGT members) is also very good. Must upload some tracks from them sometime.

This song seems to draw from that traditional folk song, don't know the name but goes like: When I first came to this land, I was not a wealthy man. So I got myself a wife, called love of life. Although this song is based a bit more in reality, going: Got myself a wife, been trouble all my life.
It's an old traditional called "Cold, Rain and Snow". The Dead did it, too, on their first album. Well, I got me a wife she's been trouble all my life run me out in the cold, rain and snow Well, she's comin' down the stairs combing back her yellow hair and i ain't gonna be treated this a way.. Well she went up to her room where she sang a faithful tune and i'm going where those chilly winds don't blow... gotta love it.. this version is sweet...

It looks like this might be it. If you know any lyrics of a song, you have a pretty good chance of finding it with google.

Bought the album after hearing two of their songs here. Great stuff.
Good, but not nearly as good as Del McCoury & the Chieftains' version of this song.
get's a 9 by me...
Dig the Tanyas. Good music.
8) nice woe and whoo
Its good to hear Dolly Parton making a comeback.
Heard this for the first time on a camping trip in northern Wisconsin. I thought it was a perfect song for the occasion. Then they sing Lk pontchartrain, heart melted despite the rain and cold. good album. thanks. i agree with some other listeners, this stuff can be overplayed though.
Liked the Dead version better, but never would have noticed they were the same song until I listened to the lyrics. Cool version nonetheless.
I love this song - one of my favorites from a great album. Haunting and powerfull stuff. Thatnks RP for introducing me to one of my fav groups. Wish they'd go on tour....
