I think you are both missing the point, Aloha.

You might think it was Leo Kottke except... without the technical superiority of LK but with stutters, fluffed notes and loss of tempo every now and then.

Still, without being too unkind, it is nice music and evocative of the 50th State of the Union.

I had the pleasure of getting to know Cyril Pahinui.  Big heart and big talent.  I still get to see his wife now and then at events.
I could have sworn it was doc watson.

But I like to swear on  Saturdays.

Never even heard of 'slack-key tuning' until RP.
Discovering I love it!
Thanks yet again, RP...

Try not to say if you try to say Panini Puker.
a Hawaiian Leo Kottke! Aloha
Way to go Bill. Love it whenever you play Hawaiian slack key guitar. Had to stop work and turn up the volume for a couple of minutes.
I am sure this is technically brilliant but it sure sounds awful

Inspired by 1980s childrens TV programmes perhaps?

MORE PLEASE!

Was thinking Leo Kottke at first. Nice string work!
It's pretty good.  Too repetitive to warrant anything higher than a 6 though.
Wow, that's a lot of picking and strumming! Not a good hangover song. :(
I actually had to look up "Slack Key" or "Slack String" - very interesting to learn about something new.
I won't buy this record, it is scratched. :(
Very sweet and laid back. Nice to be reminded that not everything has to be harder, better, faster and stronger. Rats, now I want to hear some Daft Punk.

Good transition... Thanks...
I lived in Hawaii when the traditional Hawaiian beach boy music was dying out and the more traditional slack key was growing popular...

Lots of good music in both styles. Both reflect aspects of Hawaii that are warm and wonderful, inviting...

Keep em coming...

Wow, before I looked I said to myself, "this sounds like a 12-string."  It felt nice to be right.  :)

That guitar has a beautiful tone. Anyone know what it is?
I like it but it sounds pretty elementry.....sort of like Kotke at 3?
This is some very pretty picking...

Dear god make this circus music stop.
Cyril Pahinui .... it sounded like Leo Kotke at first, I like it.
This is quite lovely.
Is this related to Dobro somehow? I love the texture of the tone.
LOVE this. More of this style on RP, please!

Love Hawaiian slack key guitar. Very beautiful and Cyril's one of the gods.

I would definitely suggest hearing the whole album, because I was in the same boat when I first heard it. A mixed bag of musicians, but a great intro to Slack Key.
Quite Kottke-esque.
Quite likeable picking in the Key of Slack!
mahalo for the slack key!

I highly recommend this entire CD. Hawaiian music isn't for everyone, but if you want to explore more (contemporary and traditional) check out mele.com.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but a song should take flight, not just taxi down the runway all day, Know what I mean?

I was sure I was hearing Gordon Bok. This guy can play!
Being Hawaiian, it puts such a huge smile on my face that RP plays Hawaiian music on the rotation – from Brudda Iz to slack key guitar, mmm, mmm, mmm...it's a great way to let people on the mainland know Hawaiian music is more than Don Ho or just cheesy, background party music – yes there is that but so much more... :D
With the opening notes, I recognized Cyril's playing. Beautiful. I'm a big fan.

Oh please make it stop. This is the sound KPIG used to play when they had dead air, - just before they did the subscription thing. It sounds great the first thousand or so times times but after that it was just *really* annoying.
nice. but the beginning is slightly out of tune and make my ears bleed.
Sweet and intoxicating.. what a dangerous combination..I am alrady sailing awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy :fever.gif: ...

Bravo RP. This set has really represented what thoughtful radio/music programming is all about. It elevates instead of playing to the lowest-common-denominator. Most commercial programs are so compromised that, no matter the format genre and even though some stations at least try to be better than the rest of their commercial competition, they just cannot approach the nuance and eclecticism of well-informed and skilled programming as presented by what we are hearing here.
Thought it was Leo Kottke

Happy happy joy joy! It's my happy Hawaiian music! Here on RP!

This did remind me of something from Led Zeppelin\'s Physical Graffiti also. Someone said something about slack key? I guess thats a good way to describe the way it sounds. :)

Very nice sound. I wouldn\'t know this was Hawaiian music, but I guess I\'ve never heard Hawaiian music to make any sort of comparison. It\'s just very pleasant. RP exposes me to such diverse talent. Thanks for everything!!
