Does anyone know where I can buy this cd "My Goal is beyond" for a reasonable price? I have a 25 year old copy on cassette but cannot bear to to listen to the distortion anymore.
did you finally get a copy?
Outstanding.

McLaughlin; the Ornette Coleman of the guitar...
Not sure I really like it, but it definitely made me stop and listen (and look it up). A complex piece of music I can appreciate. There are a lot of layers to this.
yep.. doesn't get much better than this.
Interesting. Sure I'll have to listen again to fully appreciate it.

A meandering tuneless mess.
No wonder people get stoned - they have to to listen to stuff like this!

I'm surprised to find that I really enjoyed that. It was like walking down a street and catching snatches of music yet the last musical glimpse fit in with the previous. Not the kind of thing I could listen to for long but it was pretty interesting.
This sucks
It's surely art and non-trivial... However, I guess one has to hear it very often to like it
First sucko-barfo of the day...
Torturous. It's like there are two tracks playing at once and they are both bad.
ENOUGH!!!
Stop please I will be sick!
Now I have a headache. Like squeaking a piece of styrofoam.
cat's claws down the windowpane.
How about a bit of Bill Frisell? The Intercontinentals, preferably.

Take another hit and it will start to make a little sense :-)

Exactly!!!!
great stuff!

John McLaughlin! There you go...that's why I'm here.

An all-time classic. I've had this since it was released. Awesome! Yes, and it did change my life, much in the same way as Alice Coltrane's Journey In Satchidananda did.
YES!!! Thank you for playing this. Great music.
If you like this, try JM's Shakti! too.
I should like this, but it's giving me a headache.

In future, Shakti, por favor.

You've been PM'd
This is music that really challenges the listener. Not. To. Scream.

I can't hate it because it is such a 3. To me, it's what 3 was made for.

Yes, I have practically grated my fingernails down to nubs. The good parts are interspersed with too much irritating stuff. Oh . . . light dawns . . . Jazz influence. Turning off for now.
nails on a chalk board
This whole album is so great. This was the first song that I ever heard from John Mclaughlin and loved it immediately. I went to see him some years ago here in Toronto, however and was extremely disappointed. He was playing too much of the I'm searching for that note and don't know if I'll ever get there type solos. I can see how the apparent lack of direction in some of the solos can bother some. This track, however, is just sublime and so is the rest of the album. I would like to hear Pork Pie Hat off of this album on RP as well. I might have to get to uploadin'.
This is getting on my nerves!

It's not a bad piece...but both these comments are funny...I think Jeronimus_Funk didn't mean 'electic' and h2o read something else

What a music, this is the intelligent part of 'electic intelligent rock', great to hear it on a radio!

WoW, just WoW...I felt transported during this piece. Great music to travel by.
A meandering tuneless mess.

Really depends on what task you're trying to complete while listening to this - right now I'm attempting to restore a database (boooring and difficult!) and this music is really making it hard to concentrate. First time I've said I don't like the music on RP (except that one Jefferson Airplane song...but I was doing taxes at the time and not in a good mood) Rating = 3

Great to hear John McLaughlin from somewhere else besides my stereo or a concert (i.e., media outlet.)
May peace be number one someday.

Works well w/ the block you have it in. As someone shared earlier: Bitches Brew w/ Miles and Mclauglin is a killer!

great story, Cy.
Sooooo thats what happens when you take acid and try to play Jazz.
I have no problems with expermental stuff, but that was flat-out boring....
The only reaction it gets out of me is gritting my teeth. However, that\'s why I listen to RP. You get exposed to lots of different music - ones you hate & ones you love.
Been listening to this album since it was first released on vinyl way back when. I\'ve never heard anything from it played before on the radio.
Congrats and keep the great music streaming.
david
btw, that was john on bitches brew with miles. that disc cracked the world open. I prefer john electric, but oh well.

You wouldn\'t expect it, but the music sounds a bit like it\'s based on Everybody Was Kung-Fu Fighting. Was that the same period?
Awesome assemblage of instruments - disparate at times and completely in synch at other times. Complex music that I love and appreciate.
YAH!!! that one hit the spot! :D
Contitution Hall \'73 ..\'74? Center floor, vitiman Q, the violin/keyboard/guitar all sounded the same and lifted us to a higher plane. Thought we had seen the center of the universe. Thanks Bill.
brings back good memories.
