Well, the money's pouring down and the people all look down
And it's floating out of town
I hit the second deck and I spent my paycheck
And my wife that I just met, she's looking like a wreck

Casino Queen
My lord you're mean
I've been gambling like a fiend on your tables so green

I always bet on black, blackjack
I'll pay you back
The room fills with smoke and I'm already broke
And the dealer keeps on joking as he takes my last token

Casino Queen
My lord you're mean
I've been gambling like a fiend on your tables so green

Good tune!
wow

seen these guys a month ago at outdoor venue.

freaking great show.

they really do still surprise you at times at live shows, which is difficult to do.

fyi: this song is about gambling boats on Mississippi River in STL area. Remnant of their Uncle Tupelo days.

love it, Wilcos first album
Great song

You should have seen Uncle Tupelo.  What a band!

This song does rock!!!

That would be guest guitarist Brian Henneman of the Bottle Rockets.

Interesting, while his voice is different than Rod Stewart, the tune sounds a lot like a Rod Stewart throw back, prior when Rod became "poppy."  The guitar work is fun.
Luv Ms Tunstall.... I feel it all.
He who has ears, let him hear.

Hey Blue,

Your location must be in Alton, Il.  It once was larger than Chicago!

I assume you've been to the Bonn Air-Fast Eddies, for burgers. Good old bar.

This once was a great RnR band.

Don't know what they are now.
Nice: took that sour John Prine taste right out of my mouth. Thanks rp...

Toe-tappin' good!
This is 20 YEARS OLD...and even though they've had some great ones since, I still think it's their best song.
Shit-kicking groove.

YEE-HAAAAAAAAH!

Black Jack!

I'll pay ya back...
This was one heck of an initial album

Songs of love, sex, and hope, and dreams...and gambling on a river boat on the St. Louis landing. Across the river from Belleville, IL.
Birthplace of Uncle Tupelo.
Sheer unadulterated rock music. {#Bananajam}{#Drummer}{#Bananasplit}
No. He haw. Yuck.
"The dealer keeps on jokin' and he takes my last token"

That's pretty much what happens to everybody if you play enough blackjack...
a bit Stonesy, and yeah cowbell plonkin' fun

Touches of Sting Me by Black Crowes, with the insistent drumming and similar guitar tone.

hey man,

Play this whole album!

This is a great RnR album form the first derivative band of Uncle Tupelo.

Yeah baby, midwest RnR about a freakin casino on the Missisippi River in St Louis.

WOW!  This is really good.  Where you guys been hiding?
I was just asked:

"Are they saying Cee-lo Green, you're so mean?"

Ha!

You could do a lot worse than Wilco here and they have!{#Stop} (Muse, Metric, Pearl Jam, Tori Amos, Vienna Tang, Bat for Lashes and that whole operatic, electronica, commercial crap genre).

Dude,

You've been had by Excelsior.  He's being sarcastic.  He spent the entire summer of 2008 giving Wilco, along w/"Uncle Tupe", Son Volt and pretty much everybody else a collective kick in the balls.

But for some reason, he quit commenting at the end of last October.  I hope Tweedy & the boys didn't strike back.

Come back Excelsior!!  We need more "blatant dissent" here at RP (obscure No. Illinois band reference).

LOL. That was good.

Great segue from Euro Trash Girl to Casino Queen. Bill, do you know this woman? Seems she's run into many of us over the years.

Ah, Gamblin.
{#Beat}
Cow bells yee hah, But Wilko = southern rockers?
More Wilco, please. Thanks.
Oh my God!!!  Wilco AGAIN!!!   We have truly been blessed by a very rare occurrence.

Definately sounds like Stones' guitars.

Me likey Wilco.
I try to bring myself to rate at least one Wilco song under an 8 ... but I just can't. Their music is just too good. When Tweedy's vocals/lyrics aren't up to par, the band makes up for it, vice versa, or they're all dead on. And once you see Wilco live, respect goes through the roof.

Love the song, love the album. I think Wilco is great but I second the motion that Ghost is Born or YHF could have used a driving number like this one. I also recognize that's like asking the Cowboy Junkies to record a non-mopey song without Margo's voice. The difference being this song: Exhibit A in the case that Wilco could stretch if Tweedy still wanted to.
Yep, that's rock and roll. Hold the Mustard and the Ketchup, Please. Just some extra Mayonnaise.
Ah yes, I have had many mean night at the Casino Queen. Weird to hear a band singing about your hometown. (click here) "Home of the loosest slots" ::snicker::
Reminds me of early Stones a bit.
I hadn't heard this song before but I was chair dancin' before the first word! Neat-O Cool

had to laugh hearing this one...jeff tweedy singing about this dilapidated casino right across from the st. louis arch in his former and my current city of residence .
Catchy like the flu.
Stay away from the Casino, period!
It's not Wilco's best - The lyrics are a bit underdeveloped ("Casino Queen/My lord, you're mean!") but it's got a great Stones-y groove. It was the sign of better things to come. Plus - I'm feeling much better now. A few minutes ago I had a fever and the only prescription was more cowbell. Problem solved. TJ

Probably the worst of this fine debut album. They have changed alot....
