When I think of heaven, deliver me in a black-winged bird,
I think of flying, down into a sea of pins and feathers,
And all other instruments of faith and sex and God,
In the belly of a black-winged bird, don't try to feed me,
'Cause I've been here before and I deserve a little more.
I belong in the service of the Queen,
I belong anywhere but in between,
She's been crying , I've been thinking,
And I am the Rain King.
Well I said, mama, mama, mama,
Why am I so alone? well I can't go outside,
I'm scared I might not make it home,
But I'm alive, I'm alive, but I'm sinking in,
If there's anyone at home at your place darlin'
Why don't you invite me in? don't try to bleed me,
'Cause I've been there before and I deserve a little more.
I belong in the service of the Queen,
I belong anywhere but in between,
She's been lying, I've been sinking,
And I am the Rain King.
Hey, I only want the same as anyone,
Henderson is waiting for the sun,
Oh it seems night endlessly begins and ends,
After all the dreaming I come home again.
When I think of heaven, deliver me in a black-winged bird,
I think of dying, lay me down in a field of flame and heather,
Render up my body into the burning heart of God
In the belly of a black-winged bird, don't try to bleed me,
'cause I've been here before and I deserve a little more.
I belong in the service of the Queen,
I belong anywhere but in between,
She's been dying and I've been drinking
And I am the Rain King,
Well I said I am the rain king,
Well I said I, I, I, I, I yeah,
Well I am the rain king, yeah.
I think of flying, down into a sea of pins and feathers,
And all other instruments of faith and sex and God,
In the belly of a black-winged bird, don't try to feed me,
'Cause I've been here before and I deserve a little more.

Can't they at least slop on key?
tooo lazzzzy him smoke too much pipe before show
I usually like Counting Crows, but must agree with the general sentiment that this is pretty dreadful.
I like it...
hey, it\'s got to be boring as hell to sing the same song the same way for years and years and years... experimentation is a good thing. That\'s what musicianship is all about. Ever hear Bruce Hornsby play anything the same way twice?
they are maybe drunk thats why....
never been a big fan of counting crows... can\'t say exactly why... just don\'t like their sound I guess
Oh god, so so so so bad. I\'m almost tempted to end my moratorium against low ratings to give my one and only 1 vote. Nawww ... not worth the effort
Absolute Muck
So is this what bands do when they run out of ideas? Take their old hits and slow them down and make them all heart-felt and stuff?
Yeah, well,
aaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhh
nooooooooooooooooooo
It reminds of playing records on a turntable and putting my fingers on the records to slow down the sound. I used to find amusement in that as a kid... I find no amusement in this at all.
sounds sleepy

Boooooooooooooooooooooring
I must say that the history of music is saturated with whiners. The best songs are the singer whining. For god's sake a whole genre of music is called the BLUES! Country music perfected the whine. Super-hip junkies sing of loss a lonelyness as a staple of the music.
Pain is motivation for art. Counting crows have some really corny stuff in the catalog...but so do the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. There is genius in this song. lush playing and stripped down rawness. Whine on you crazy diamond.
Whoa, who turned on the Clear Channel station?? Bleh. Liked these guys in their early days. They seem lifeless now. I saw Adam at the Jazz Fest in New Orleans, just walking around....
Sooooooo corny. And to think I used to like these guys....
One more vote for the CD version. Adam seems to feel the need to \"take the song further\" in live performances, forgetting that his peformance in the studio was over the top to begin with.
Love the album when it came out.
But I haven\'t heard any depth from these guys in years.
sad.
In the dark, with my curtains drawn, with the covers pulled over my head, with none of my macho friends listening in. I will admit that I REALLY like Counting Crows.
Shhhhhhhhhhhh! Don\'t tell a soul
Samiyam
This song does not wear well. Tiresome.
Simply a beautiful, well performed song.
Buzzardcheater, I\'m with you... More like \"Whine King\" instead of \"Rain King.\" Yeah, I like *some* of their stuff, and used to like it a lot more, but stuff like this?
I vote for the studio version, but this one is ok too.
I realize I\'m in the minority here, but these guys just always sound so......damn.........WHINY. bleh.
