Why'd you cross that river anyway?
Why'd you put all that water in our way?
So deep and so wild
I can't swim that far
And you can't build bridges in the dark
Maybe if you hadn't said a word
Maybe if I hadn't overheard
Maybe if our lives hadn't fallen all apart
Building bridges in the dark
On the day you finally realized
There's no difference on the other side
Run down to the water
Hang your head and cry
Cause you can't build bridges in the dark
Why'd you put all that water in our way?
So deep and so wild
I can't swim that far
And you can't build bridges in the dark
Maybe if you hadn't said a word
Maybe if I hadn't overheard
Maybe if our lives hadn't fallen all apart
Building bridges in the dark
On the day you finally realized
There's no difference on the other side
Run down to the water
Hang your head and cry
Cause you can't build bridges in the dark

HA!!! Shazam couldn't name it!!! 7 --> 8
I was sure this was Bruce Cockburn. I see I wasn't the only one.
Very enjoyable song for me, but as a bridge engineer just gotta say we got light plants these days that make building bridges in the dark a lot easier...
Nice one. Instant 8.
Joy

I was in the process of chasing down some websites from business cards I got from "Art in the Park" today, and this song came on, and I started to grin and feel pretty good about my online research. I really LIKE this song. Yes, quite a Jackson Browne feel to it, but the instrumentals are different enough that Blood Oranges has a sound all their own. (Note to self: Forego the salt lamp and buy this CD instead.)
Very nice indeed. AMG identifies them as The Blood Oranges. Unfortunately the band broke up in 1994.
First few bars, I thought it was Blue Rodeo. Haven't heard them in quite some time ...
Great song, too bad it is unavailable on iTunes.

Too bad the lead singer is flat on the chorus...nice song otherwise.
Funny - the artist website takes you to Wiki reference on the actual fruit....

Regular OK.
Shady Grove from their Lone Green Valley is my fave from them, though.

I see I'm certainly not the first to notice that this guy definitely has that same quality Jackson Browne has in his voice. Nice.
Missed the song - Work!! - but I love blood oranges

I can't believe it's not! oldman wrote:

Um, outstanding.

But of course! It's in the opening credits...and it's only one of my favourite shows. I had to order Showtime just to see the 3rd season because it's not showing on any of the regular cable channels.
Blood oranges now remind me of Dexter. Anyone?

Cheri Knight's "The Northeast Kingdom" is an excellent CD. I've been diggin' the Blood Oranges for years, "The Crying Tree" and "Corn River" are both very good. As for the complaints about the voice, this type of music (alt. country/folk/bluegrass) doesn't need a pure, tuneful, always on key vocal performance. The Blood Oranges are an American roots band- twangy, quirky, and off kilter vocals fit the authenticity of the music perfectly. Dylan and Earle can't sing- yet they CAN. It ain't perfect, but it's not supposed to be.
Right on bean.

Physicsgenius attempt at "humor".

If you like this, check out the two solo discs from Cheri Knight, "The Knitter" and "The Northeast Kingdom." (I uploaded a couple tracks to RP but they were rejected) One was produced by Steve Earle and she's got great backup muscians and singers, including Emmylou Harris. Excellent songwriting and a more rock, less country country-rock.

If you think he's bad, listen to James Blunt more. Personally, i think its a fair song. Simple.
I thought this was Jackson Browne... or some other Nico consort.
Kinda nice, actually. I thought it was Bruce Cockburn at first.
sounds like he's straining on the high(er) notes...
I was surprised to see that this is 12 years old. Sounds fresh.

colonials, eh? saint bertram, lad! here in new (and improved?) england "colonials" are houses and "english" is the spin we put on pool balls! that said, i have to agree with your assessment of this song. not high on my list. i'd drop it in the dust bin.

Drum loop, organ playing nothing but whole note chords, and nearly tuneless singing. Sounds like the first song someone's ever written and recorded.
Useless.

Very sweet tune. Reminiscent of old Jackson Browne (at least to me). This is typical of why I've become a diehard RP fanatic; gaining exposure to groups that otherwise would never cross my ears. Nice pick and a great segue from Mark Knopfler.

This remind anyone else of Sue Vega? Not the voice obviously! But I could picture her singing a tune like this and it sounds similar to something I think I\'ve heard her sing. Nice tune.
