I'm broke, but I'm happy
I'm poor, but I'm kind
I'm short, but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high, but I'm grounded
I'm sane, but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost, but I'm hopeful, baby

And what it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine, fine, fine
'Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five

I feel drunk, but I'm sober
I'm young and I'm underpaid
I'm tired, but I'm working, yeah
I care, but I'm restless
I'm here, but I'm really gone
I'm wrong and I'm sorry, baby

And what it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be quite alright
'Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flicking a cigarette

And what it all comes down to
Is that I haven't got it all figured out just yet
'Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a peace sign

I'm free, but I'm focused
I'm green, but I'm wise
I'm hard, but I'm friendly, baby
I'm sad, but I'm laughing
I'm brave, but I'm chicken shit
I'm sick, but I'm pretty, baby

And what it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet
Well, I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is playing a piano
And what it all comes down to my friends, yeah
Is that everything is just fine, fine, fine
'Cause I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is hailing a taxi cab

Amazing the negativity on her and this one. This is a brilliant album, filled with passion, purpose, and heartfelt, raw authentic emotional truth for her (and most of us, if we're honest with ourselves).

Exactly. You have embarrassed me with my previous rating of 7. I just fixed that. And BTW, I once met her briefly in passing. Humble and graciouse are the first two words that come to mind.
Sure is nice to finally have a radio station that doesn't bleep out naughty words like "chickenshit".  I'm done with FM radio.

Sorry Mate, was going through a tough spot in life then
Shadow work revealed in her lyrical process! Both fascinating and, I suspect, a little too much emotional honesty for some listeners...?!
I'm an admirer.
Judging by the posted dates this one took a 17 year hiatus. I loved this song the first time I heard it. Can't believe that was 27 freakin' years ago!

RP has a way of finding and playing female artists that otherwise get overlooked. Big props to RP for finding and playing great female artists!

You know, when "Jagged Little Pill" came out, I enjoyed the hell out of it. So it must have some good qualities, but "timeless" just isn't one of them. I can't listen to her now without cringing, and this song is one of the worst.

Ditto.
A jagged little pill for the ear.

Ewwww, I was hoping NOT to hear this on RP. Lump her in with the Toris and Celines of the world. ulghhh...gag. That was close. Guess my rating, g'head.

I missed all the hype when she went big time with all the hits, the Grammys, etc. I'm usually not into that nonsense, and usually detest most popular music. But I recently starting spinning this CD after borrowing from the local library, and it has turned into one of my favorite albums.

I'd like to welcome Alanis as one of America's newest citizens!
I hate this song. But then I hate all her songs.

My thoughts exactly
You know, when \"Jagged Little Pill\" came out, I enjoyed the hell out of it. So it must have some good qualities, but \"timeless\" just isn\'t one of them. I can\'t listen to her now without cringing, and this song is one of the worst.
I had a child in her late teens when this came out and I always thought that Alanis did an excellent job speaking to that generation with this song. Besides, I like the cut also and don't believe that it's inappropriate for RP at all.
You live; you learn...that Alanis is not so bad.
So what's wrong with hearing a song that was played on "corporate radio"? What about all the classics that Bill plays? Most of them were played at one time on "corporate radio" and that's where we heard them for the first time. In regards to this song....not one of her best, but not too bad. Patti M. 8^)
Weird. 8O Never expected this on RP. I think it's OK, though.
She\'d sound better if her head was in her pocket! I know when I hear her my hand is flippin a bird!
Finally, a song that I feel like I have heard so many times on the radio that I don't need to hear it here.
Eh, ok. I kind of like Alanis I just don\'t want to admit it. A solid 7.
Looking back on it, her music probably isn\'t that bad. In 1995/6, though, you couldn\'t listen to the radio for more than 15 minutes without hearing one of her songs, which was annoying as hell. Worse, I worked with a guy that liked to sing her songs full-throat. In the same room with me. All day long. Over and over. For months on end.
I'll probably get lynched around here. BUT I LOVE THIS SONG. THANK YOU BILL. This is one of my 3 favorite Alanis songs.
:verymad:
no no no no no no no no Alanis. Bad Bill; --d
