Walking through a crowd, the village is aglow
Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats
Everybody here wanting something more
Searching for a sound that they haven't heard before
And it said
Welcome to New York
It's been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York
It's been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York
It's a new soundtrack
I can dance to this beat, beat
Forevermore
The lights are so bright
They never blind me, me
When we first dropped our bags on apartment floors
Took our broken hearts and put them in a drawer
Everybody here was someone else before
You can want who you want
Boys and boys, girls and girls
Welcome to New York
It's been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York
It's been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York
It's a new soundtrack
I can dance to this beat, beat
Forevermore
The lights are so bright
They never blind me, me
Like any great love, it keeps you guessing
Like any real love, it's ever-changing
Like any true love, it drives you crazy
But you wouldn't change anything, anything, anything
Kaleidoscope of loud heartbeats under coats
Everybody here wanting something more
Searching for a sound that they haven't heard before
And it said
Welcome to New York
It's been waiting for you
Welcome to New York
Welcome to New York

This sounds awful! But cracking me up.

This album is solid...just got it. Bill, I think you should find a song or two from Taylor to play...she can write some good ones.

Hysterical. Ryan brilliantly gives it the Springsteen treatment and ya know what? It sounds like a Springsteen song! (only less pretentious)
Oh your Wise Highness, I also hear John Mellancamp and nuthin' wrong wit dat On_The_Beach wrote:

Well, as long it is not Bryan Adams, all is well.

Metropolis:
Such things I have seen;
witches on the cover of magazines.
Bright eyed boys and girls in their dressed down style,
none of 'em reflecting a soul.
Night turned to day on the speed of a thought.
The carnival life-style continues,
why should anyone stop?
Never mind the sound of things that go bump.
In-betwix, in-between such things I have seen.
Sidewalk bound ragged bums slumping down with their watery eyes
fully aware how they're despised by most who walk by.
A young girl child assaulted on a train.
Women and children begging and crying in the rain
and ignored.
The trees die young in this hollow land,
yet few seem to understand.
Nobody bothers to stop and ask why..
In this land of endless moments, in this land of final dreams,
in this land of no tomorrow such things I have seen.
New York City.

Is it me, or does this give off a kinda "late-period Springsteen" vibe?
Absolutely!

"Heartland Rock" is back via the ghost writing of Taylor Swift
Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Tom Petty and Bob Segar should have thought of doing this

I do not have an answer to this exact question, but just last night I chanced upon a Robyn Hitchcock album that consists only of Dylan songs, performed in a manner that is remarkably close to Dylan's. I found it rather compelling. He even includes songs from the basement tapes bootleg in the style of the original. I found this on Apple Music but it's probably available elsewhere, should anyone be interested.
So Ryan Adams covers Taylor Swift's entire "1989" album, track for track.
This got me thinking, has this ever happened before; one artist covering an entire album of another artist, of their own generation, and releasing it while the original is still in the charts??
I couldn't think of a single example.

Have been a huge fan of Ryan's work in the past, but since disbanding The Cardinals and taking his medical break, not much of the new stuff resonates with me. Could it be the Mandy Moore Effect...?

That Girl can sure write a really great song.

I had no idea that he did this (I just don't follow the pop music scene at all these days). That's just damned weird and frankly pointless. It'd be interesting to hear how differently he arranged the songs, but who would buy his version? You wonder what Taylor Swift thought of the whole deal...
From what I saw on Twitter/Instagram, as Ryan was documenting his track-by-track recording of it, Taylor was thrilled and flattered (they're both from the Nashville scene, but at different ends of the musical spectrum at this point). It's an interesting experiment, as all I've heard after this was released was what people perceive to be a "good" pop song, solely based on how it's presented/produced. Each of them have their merits; neither one is compelling enough for me to want to buy. But to each his own!

As a mom to a 12 year old daughter, TS is a frequent presence in our house. I absolutely enjoy Ryan Adam's interpretation of her latest work.
Do you think he'd let me use this on my new web site? Just askin'.

This song has the most manufactured-sounding lyrics since Rebecca Black. I don't care who sings it, it's just flat-out terrible as a song.
Heard a review on NPR, they liked it. The cut they used were ok but I was unimpressed. Of course I not a big Ryan Adams fan.
Yes "TS-1989" is the Sgt Pepper of this decade.
Ryan sings Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift's version is more joyous and fun.
does RP have any whiskeytown? hmm.
