Take me to the finish line
All my heart, it breaks every step that I take
But I'm hoping that the gates,
They'll tell me that you're mine
Walking through the city streets
Is it by mistake or design?
I feel so alone on a Friday night
Can you make it feel like home, if I tell you you're mine
It's like I told you honey
Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love's not enough when the road gets tough
I don't know why
Keep making me laugh,
Let's say goodbye
Road's long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
Come and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words
This is the last time
'Cause you and I, we were born to die
Lost but now I am found
I can see but once I was blind
I was so confused as a little child
Tried to take what I could get
Scared that I couldn't find
All the answers, honey
Don't make me sad, don't make me cry
Sometimes love's not enough when the road gets tough
I don't know why
Keep making me laugh,
Let's say goodbye
Road's long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime

Really don't like this - Looked her up and saw her father is a dot.com millionaire - Daddy bought his little girl the best producers and publicists and that probably explains why the music sits so badly with me.. but a lot of people I know enjoy this so she's clearly doing something right!
What a weird - borked even - way to look at music, never mind listen to it. Who cares who paid for the producers and publicists? Do you think that, for example, the Beatles saved up their pocket money to afford these things? No, they were paid for by the record company. If LDR's father paid for her to get her foot on the ladder, then that's a bit 'nepo', but she's more than proved her worth as an artist in her own right since.
I prefer to judge the music on its own merit, rather than delving into the personal backgrounds of the artists. There usually be dragons when you start digging (see Beck).
Agreed. And will add I give her points for getting up and out and doing something even though daddy is rich. Many are lazy do nothings.
anyone getting a Madmen vibe from this?
I was getting a Morcheeba "Blood like Lemonaid" vibe, but I definitely like both.
i find her music boring...it's just not my bag. i do know many really love and respect her. and i do respect her. we all have our preferences, i guess.
Lily at least you are not saying anyone who listens to lana sucks too and just trolls people, thats why i mucho respect for you.

Isn't it the purpose of money? To buy things?
She's the Thomas Kinkade of chanteuses.
Mat Johnson skewers Kinkade with surgical precision in his novel,

I have to wonder whether "a lot of people" enjoy Lana merely because she's been placed in front of them, like Zima. Slate reveals the horror, the horror of our bandwagoning:
But virtually overnight, Zima was done in by its medicinal taste and girly-man rep: After selling an astounding 1.3 million barrels in 1994, the year it went national, Zima's sales fell to just 403,000 barrels in 1996.
....
The ads offered no inkling of what Zima was supposed to be, exactly, but the mystery obviously intrigued the masses: In 1994, Coors estimated that 70 percent of America's regular drinkers gave Zima a try.
Unfortunately for Coors, most of those drinkers tried it only once, since straight Zima tasted like tinfoil soaked in Fresca.
There's a great satire on Zima in an episode of Married With Children...

Bill;s dog woofed up this morning. I'd rather hear the dog than Lana.
Ditto. This isn't singing, it isn't reciting. I don't know what this is.

Still listened LOL
if you're doing the same, i can say - it'll all become blindingly obvious after the song finishes, so just wait for it & it'll all become crystal clear.
And if you're anything like me, it'll make you laugh too . .
cheers!
Yeah...nice touch.
"The Thomas Kincaid of chanteuses"...Bill's words, not mine.
And yes, that golden retriever gave full voice to his disapproval again.
So the question remains: why is RP playing this woman if the owner/dj is so underwhelmed by LDR?

I realize this is musical fluff...doesn't stop me from liking it though.

Seen her live in Düsseldorf Germany, and she is a sweet girl as well.
Seems her voice follows the music in a slow mystical way, mmm.
It grows on you the more you listen....
1st Prize for Best Comment.
Beautiful woman, somewhat interesting voice that could get better with training. But the lyrics, the overblown arrangement, the whole marketing of Lana—someone needs to fire the committee that foisted all of this on us.
(no, I don't mean literally grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking the crap out of her, though I think that is what most would like to do)

She hasn't been around long enough to reach that level. Mariah Carey or Celine Dion are more likely recipients of such an honor.
The message ... could be a little more upbeat (!)
Wow. That hit me hard and I to leave desk for uncontrolled laughter...still miss Ms. Kahn...
She has a cool voice and her own genre thing going.
Me likes!
Good point.
Agreed, but Darling Lili had more musical cojones. M.K. RIP.
I'd agree. So close, but not quite. her voice is in the uncanny valley.
This comment gets my nomination for "best of the thread"
Yes! Reminds me of Madeline Kahn's Lili von Shtupp in "Blazing Saddles":
singing> Here I stand, the goddess of desire
Set men on fire
I have this power.
Morning, noon, and night, it's dwink and dancing
Some quick womancing
And then a shower.
Stage door Johnnies constantly suwwound me
They always hound me, with one wequest.
Who can satisfy their lustful habits?
I'm not a wabbit.
I need some we...

I like that you like this. I like that I like it.
I'd say that she almost has it. To my ears, there's a little something missing.

brutal
or should I say, "more UFO noise, I just can't get enough of that UFO noise!"

Had a completely delayed reaction to this comment. When I read it last night, I thought, "oh, there must be a flying saucer in the background on the album cover" and never bothered to actually look.
Then, while sitting at a stop light today and listening to the song (which I do like, actually) it totally hit me and I started giggling in my car. Yes, I am slow, and unashamed.
But, thought I would share. Thanks for the chuckle.
This song, for example, is derivative as hell. The lyrics are made up from phrases from other songs: feet don't fail me now, take a walk on the wild side, let me kiss you in the pouring rain, I can see but once I was blind. And, I'm pretty sure the melody of the chorus is straight from something by A Fine Frenzy.
Yeah. This sounds very manufactured...paint by numbers...Lana's more interesting when she puts some passion in her voice, but the world-weary melancholy feels like an act.
I know some of you don't want to read negative comments on RP but really: where else can you debate the merits of an artist or song with such an eclectic, informed group? It should be OK to write about your dislikes as long as you have something intelligent and non-abusive to say.
Steely Dan used to make me grit my teeth, kremfresch, but now I love 'em. Dunno when or where or how that happened.
I was about to say the same thing! I much prefer her voice to Adele's - I'm afraid I can't bear any of the current crop of female singers who sing so loudly their voices constantly break and squeak.
Undersinging is equally irksome.

OK, i am trying to understand this... to me she does not sound nor look at all like Adele... not even close. Are our eyes and ears that different?

Lana Del Rey has the Industry Machine working for her. Her success is guaranteed, regardless of music quality (which, incidentally, I don't think is terrible)
I love her voice. She reminds me a lot of Paula Frazer/Tarnation
Awesome.
"Definitely born to die if a flying saucer is hovering with obvious noises in the background."
But the background "stuff" on this piece seem ridiculous.
Saw her SNL appearance also. Lets just say it was just awful! I thought maybe it was me and my wife that thought it was horrible, but then the next day I saw many similar opinions on the internet. How the hell did she get a record deal? Wait! I don't want to know!
Daddy has lots of cash and connections.
That performance proved the zombie uprising has begun. Stock food, water and ammo.
