I need you right here on the ground
I've walked the outskirts of this town
Been terrorized by what I've found
I saw a standing virgin bride
Where holy Dionysus died
She tore the heart out from his side
And laid it there, and there she cried
(Whoa's x4)
She said, "Hello, I'm a monster too."
"What poisons me is what poisons you."
Into these animals we grew
(But) When we were young our eyes were blue
I take my medicine on my knee
Twice a day but lately three
Keeps the devil from my door
And it makes me rich and it makes me poor
I'm a beggar in the morning,
I'm a king at night,
My belt is loose,
But my trigger is tight
May come without warning,
At the speed of the light
Make it shine so pretty
Make it shine so bright
(Music Break)
I think I've come a long, long way
To stand before you here today
They're yours alone, the songs I play,
To take with you or throw away
Whoa-o-o-o, Whoa-o-o-o-o-o-o, Whoa-o-o-o-o, Whoa-o-o-o, Whoa-o-o-o
(Away forever or fade away)
Oh, I want an angel to wipe my tears,
Know my dreams, my hopes, desires and fears
We may capsize, but we won't drown
Hold each other as the sun goes down
I'm a beggar in the morning,
I'm a king at night,
My belt is loose, and
My trigger is tight
May come without warning
At the speed of the light-
Make it shine so pretty,
Make it shine so bright.
He is my Gynecologist too!
That sounds painful
I saw the Andrew and Brad with Marco Benevento and Nathan Moore in a club in Albany with their band Surprise Me Mr Davis. Very very good show but it was a Wednesday night and there were only 19 people there (I counted). Next time I saw the Barr Brothers they were on Letterman! When they finished their song, Dave walked over to Eveline the harp player and said "Did you have to lug that in here yourself? I'm gonna speak to the union!"
I remember that Letterman appearance and his comment about the harp.
Usually, it is the song itself that brings back memories.
Oh my god, their dad is my dentist! And these guys are SO great live. I'm so excited that others know of them! Now I know RP knows me... <3
Now I wish they had named the band, "Our Dad Is Your Dentist".

Seems like I just heard it for the first time a year or two ago.
You watch a few episodes of Game of Thrones and another decade has flown by; jeez!
Super talented musicians all around, and Brad Barr is one of my all time favorite guitar players.

Yes, I rated it a 10, why do you ask?
Okay, so you were right. Don't gloat. 9 -> 10
That's folk music for you...
It's a different chord progression, similar tempo, but yes, that's folk music for you.
Genius! Time to contribute.
That's folk music for you...
Here's another cool track that might segue well into PF's "Several Species of Small Fury Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict" - which I think would be cool to hear here. I've rated this at 7 and would bump to an 8 if that segue ever happened
LONG LIVE RP!! PEACE!!
Yes, I rated it a 10, why do you ask?
Agreed. My favorite JA album.
I loved that album.
Whatcha drinking, kingart? I can highly recommend North Coast Brewing's Pranqster.
Had to track down your quote, motobecane. Here's some more—from A.E. Housman's "A Shropshire Lad":
Why, if 'tis dancing you would be,
There's brisker pipes than poetry.
Say, for what were hop-yards meant,
Or why was Burton built on Trent?
Oh many a peer of England brews
Livelier liquor than the Muse,
And malt does more than Milton can
To justify God's ways to man.
Ale, man, ale's the stuff to drink
For fellows whom it hurts to think:
Look into the pewter pot
To see the world as the world's not.
And faith, 'tis pleasant till 'tis past:
The mischief is that 'twill not last.
Oh I have been to Ludlow fair
And left my necktie God knows where,
And carried half way home, or near,
Pints and quarts of Ludlow beer:
Then the world seemed none so bad,
And I myself a sterling lad;
And down in lovely muck I've lain,
Happy till I woke again.
Then I saw the morning sky:
Heigho, the tale was all a lie;
The world, it was the old world yet,
I was I, my things were wet,
And nothing now remained to do
But begin the game anew.
The collection of poems is "A Shropshire Lad", but the particular poem here quoted in part is "Terence, This is Stupid Stuff".
"Blows Against The Empire" by Jefferson Starship was/is, as you say An incredibly overlooked masterpiece.
Agreed. My favorite JA album.
Really cool song, really cool sound.
Can't get it out of my head. 9 > 10
Rock on ya'll.

Seriously?
Solid 10
You have been listening to this station longer than I have yet you have rated something like 20 songs a 10 rating. A pittance. Can I seriously ask why you listen to this station? I don't think you made any headway in converting the US to your agenda. Republicans swept the last election. If anything, we are moving more to the right.
Seriously?
Excellent 2-hour show in a small club.
The soner the better. I kind of hope that if Hillary Clinton doesn't get the nod for candidate the Dems put up a black lesbian hippy so his head pops. I heard that comment said elsewhere, on another site about another person, but like the idea enough to share it. I also heard the term "thundering dickweasel"....which i intend to use often
Even Stingray keeps it to the music, well, aside from scientology but that's fair.
Simply beautiful.
Yes - simple!
Simply beautiful.
Sways back and forth
And ends just like his songs

Yeah, kind of a S&G for this generation. Whatever, I rather like this one!
Perhaps a little harsh, but thanks for drawing my attention to the excellent cover art.

Next thing you know, Hootenanny will return to network TV. Where's the resurgence of Zeppelin and Stones and ZZ Top music?
Heck, you live in Boston - just turn your radio on and you'll get more than your fill of Zep, Stones, though not so much ZZ
BTW, this is a great song and do love the resurgence of folkish tunes of any sort

Absolutely. Beards are not back in style.
Hey, beards are back in style now. Those really were the only memorable element of ZZ Top. Their music? Yawn.
