If the businessmen drink my blood
Like the kids in art school said they would
Then I guess I'll just begin again
You say, "Can we still be friends?"
If I was scared, I would and if I was bored, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not
All the kids have always known
That the emperor wears no clothes
But they bow down to him anyway
It's better than being alone
If I was scared, I would and if I was bored, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not
Now you're knocking at my door
Saying "Please come out with us tonight"
But I would rather be alone
Than pretend I feel alright
If the businessmen drink my blood
Like the kids in art school said they would
Then I guess I'll just begin again
You say, "Can we still be friends?"
If I was scared, I would and if I was pure, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not, now I'm ready to start
If I was scared, I would and if I was pure, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not, now I'm ready to start, now I'm ready to start
I would rather be wrong
than live in the shadows of your song
My mind is open wide and now I'm ready to start,
now I'm ready to start
My mind is open wide and now I'm ready to start
You're not sure you open the door and step out into the dark,
now I'm ready...

There is potential for punning and mischievous opportunities to comment on the sounds you hear, but my guess is you don't actually know the word. Bummer, I suppose. Spelling matters, since using words that sound similar but have dramatically different meanings can alter your intended message and render it moot.
Abba without the attractive melodies. The sound of Arcade Fire on the office speaker system illicits immediate pleading to change the station from every corner - fast, fast, fast. People begging to turn it off. Honestly, pound, pound, pound, pound, pound behind a man with no vocal talent whatsoever. Their popularity mystifies me. I've never met anyone who likes them - never.

Yes and waaaaay over played. Getting sick of hearing this song
I first heard the name Arcade Fire when curled up in my sleeping bag at 11000' in the High Sierras. My backpacking bud was reading an article about them in Rolling Stone. Wondering if I might recognize a song, I asked him to sing me a song. He wouldn't, despite my begging and offering chocolate and being a nuisance! But later he sent me a video of a live performance of this song.
That was my start. Loved them.

What a great song from a great album...dear God, how can anyone hate Arcade Fire?

Why is this band so popular?? Their live show looks interesting but there's nothing to the music. Boring....

Ok, that was snarky, I admit, but your statement above reveals something about your internal thought process - that you unconsciously (I assume) think that everyone actually hears exactly what you do and, at least in some cases, mistakenly likes something you don't in spite of that. Logically, that's what you're saying. Just trying to point that out.
I should be clear - there are plenty of things that I don't get, either - hip-hop and rap are great examples of that. But I can accept that others see the artistry there that I am missing - rather than concluding that they're all idiots or misguided in some other way.
And, for the record, I happen to like these guys - and I like this release more than previous ones. I doubt I could tell you precisely why.
lol! I have no idea what you are talking about, I like the song, but do not think that they are anything special which evidently from all of the buzz a lot of people do. That is my opinion, you have yours. I don't assume anything on anyone else, if they like them and think they are great, good on them, I don't and I said so. I don't have any idea what everyone else hears with their ears and quite frankly don't give a rats ass because I have my own. BTW, song comment section is for?

Although I don't agree with sirdroseph's comment, I don't see where this particular line in your critique was even implied.

Two AF songs from the same album in the last three hours. I'm not usually one to complain about overplaying, but...

The new Arcade Fire album is not as consistent as their first 2 releases, but it does have a lot of gems like this tune. If you've never seen them, live go find 'em — they put on an authentically energetic show.

Saw these guys last week at the Mann Music Center in Philly. They rocked the house!
The Suburbs (the song) sets the scene and the themes...but Ready to Start gets things moving! Infectious beat, perfect, sparse instrumentation. One of the best songs from a great album.
