At the start of the news day, the fires begin
In words and in pictures, but I'm not listening
I'm not taking it in
I'm going to go to the country, where nothing goes on
Going to bury my head, where I can't hear the sound of bombs
Playing along

Me, I'm just playing along
You and I, so many good people all
Just playing along

I'm going to go to a bar, where is the jukebox is on
Going to shut out the noise, with a rock'n'roll song
Playing along

I'm going to turn up the volume
I'm going to turn up the volume
I'm going to turn up the volume
Till I can't even think

Tell us a tale of the proud and the free
Sing us a swingtime American melody
From 'Follow The Fleet'

Me, I'm just playing along
You and I, a billion people all
Just playing along

I'm going to turn up the volume
I'm going to turn up the volume
I'm going to turn up the volume
Till I can't even think
I'm going to turn up the volume
I'm going to turn up the volume
I'm going to turn up the volume
Till I can't even think
I'm going to turn up the volume
Till I can't even think

Every time I hear this I can't help thinking it would make a good soundtrack for a shampoo commercial...

That's by far the least inspired comment for this song...

{#Snooty}

This sounds very much like something Rufus Wainwright would write.  I like it.
..."that" is priceless, RP is a stereophonic, symphophonic experience.
RP helps me turn up the volume so I can focus on my science and ignore the occasional "numbnut".
It is a little cheesy, but in a good way.

Nice song
I'm gonna turn down the volume...
This song is kind of cheesy..

But I like it and I bought it earlier this week.

Clearly the desire of most is to log in and trash this song. Too bad. It's a great song on an even better album. To evoke such a strong, negative emotion leads me to wonder what other songs those critics would find worse than this. I like this song a lot, but I've heard some bad songs here. Bad for serious reasons. But to just make comments like "Drivel" and "Stop Playing this song" is about as uncreative and thoughtless as they think the song is. Express yourself. A drive by comment, does not a point make.

On a lesser note, I hear a good amount of comments about how Tom is like Freddy Mercury. Listen to Mika. That is Freddy Mercury reincarnated. His stuff is super queer, but he is Freddy.

I agree and disagree... {#Lol} I don't presume to know what other folks' desire is when they post that little barf-icon or say "Make it stop." I've had my moments, too - usually when I honestly don't have the words to describe why I like or don't like a song. But I do agree that a short post calling a song "drivel" without even a cursory explanation as to why the listener considers it drivel is pretty uncreative.

Personally, I like this song, and now that you've mentioned it, the lead singer does have echoes of Freddy Mercury.  Those precise, clipped "s" sounds and the tone of his voice, the snarl, the whisper, the plea...  Hmmm. Keane makes me wish Mercury hadn't died so soon... Imagine what kind of music Queen would be providing now...{#Bounce}

Well said, JF, but fat chance. The "barfo sucko make it stop I hate this and have to let everyone know" community here is determined to let us know how much they hate things. Because they can I guess. Beats me.

Agree. Seems like Post-Noideas-Radiohead-sound-alike stuff.

The ending really lifts this song.
Good pop cotton candy, light and airy.  Nice to hear every once in a great while.

Agreeing with below statements, I'd love to hear this guy take on some Queen.
I love it! Variety for variety's sake! More, Bill, more!
Not so good as Keane's other material.  This one seems very uninspired and generic...  {#Confused}
Sounds like a hair band ballad. Think Scorpions.

Qui suis-je? Ou vais-je? Ah quel etat j''erre (A quelle etagere)!
Thank you Fred
I like this song by Keane. Are the instruments at the end Lu Cheng? They very much sound like these traditional pipes/organ played during Spring Festival in the Guangxi mountains, south of China

wonder why the grammar problems must be discussed in this forum! Here are many people, whose mother language is not english.
But a lot of this members have not realized this. What a pitty!!
By the way, this is not Keanes Best!!

wow....this slipped in from the periphery and i thought it was a track from a freddy mercury solo album i missed. you can do worse as someone to emulate. maybe brian and the boys should chat this kid up instead of touring with paul rodgers...not that i don't dig his voice...but he doesn;t really sound as much like the great FM as this does.

Listening to this on the headphones this morning, the singer, Tom Chaplin, sure did remind me of Freddie. I really think Queen should have packed it in after Freddie died, how can it be Queen without him? But, if they insist on touring then I agree with you, Tom would be a better choice than Paul Rodgers (who I also like).

Hm, kinda.
Keane used to sound good, but I agree with the coldplayish production here.
Also, the drummer going tits out mad in the end is completely breaking the song for me.

Interesting, I can hear the Freddy Mercury similarity, but no Brian May playing along. {#Sad}

I haven't heard one Coldplay song today, but I've read at least a dozen "I hate Coldplay" posts. This is getting old, people.

Elephant flatulence sounds better.

Turning DOWN the volume...
I could have sworn I was listening to Muse. Great pop rhythm.
I am surprised at myself for liking this one.  Should be disposable, but somehow it's not quite that.

I can definitely hear the similarity...but I think this guy's voice is like a subset of Freddie's. Freddie's voice exceeds it in every direction.

Love his voice.  Saw him sing on the Jools Holland show and he was as good as his recordings — surprising.

He can sing, but someone else needs to write him a song.
for some reason this makes me want to try new improved Agree shampoo
the "am going to turn on the volume ..." bit in the song sounds a lot like classic oasis stuff... no?  maybe? yes.

Is this some Freddie Mercury we haven't heard of before?

That's what I was thinking as well. He does sound a bit like him.

Keane I am not.....

This song does not make me want to turn up the volume... at all.
Sounds like Freddie Mercury !!
This is a fun album. Not too sophisticated, just fun. I like it {#Music}
Nice to hear from Keane again - it's been a while.
u2 and the verve had a baby?
Oasis meets the Beatles produced by Phil Spector...?
very cool sound
almost as horrible as that last killers song.
