Thinks her life's in danger
No one gives a damn about her hair
It's lonely down on track street
She used to go by Jackie
The cops, they'll steal your dreams and they'll kill your prayers
Take a number where the blood just barely dried
Wait for something better
No one behind you
Watching your shadows
This feeling won't go
Crooked wheels keep turnin'
Children, are you learnin'
Acclimatize, but don't you lose the plot
A history of blisters
Your brothers and your sisters
Somewhere in the pages we forgot
Take a number Jackie
Where the blood just barely dried
You know I'm on your side
Wait for something better
No one behind you
Watching your shadows
You gotta be stronger than the story
Don't let it blind you
Rivers of shadow
This feeling won't go
And the sky is full of dreams
But you don't know how to fly
I don't have a simple answer
But I know that I could ask for
Something better
This feeling won't go
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
Wait for it
BTW, Just because I might mute my speaker for a tune doesn't mean I am annoyed with RP like some listeners. who constantly complain about the diverse mixes? I Listen to Radio Paradise because it gives me opportunity to explore new, diverse sounds beyond my comfort and current knowledge. Thanks RP!
Well, it's ok because The Killers really, truly suck.
Without the diversity of this station, we wouldn't have the non-stop hilarity of the comment pages either.
Mute is a wonderful, simple tool for momentary reflection of what you've just been subjected to, and a chance for something better around the corner.

I couldn't agree more, bam23. I saw the same performance. I absolutely do not understand the mass appeal of these guys. They are not horrible only because thay are not distinctive enough to be either wonderful or horrible. People are drawn to RP I think to get away from all the faceless, souless, musical nonsense that dominates the airwaves. These guys are contributors to that white noise. A complete waste of time and stream space IMHO. 3
I think the song rating from the listeners would indicate that the mass majority would disagree with your humble opinion. People are drawn to Radio Paradise for the incredible eclectic mix of artists and sounds. The Killers fit in this mix whether you appreciate it or not.
Every time I hear an Elvis Costello song on RP I cringe, but I understand that he is part of the wonderful mix that makes up this station.
But this is the first time I've heard this song... it's a little different... not bad.
It's like someone mixed together Paul Simon, Killers, and Keane.
...and Travis...
I can totally see where you would get that. I don't know if I would have "heard" it when listening to it, but once I read your comment, I totally hear it.

That's funny because I saw them on SNL too. Don't know if it was the same performance, and I was impressed. It made me like them a little bit more.
SNL is NOT a venue to critique, as every band sounds horrible on their stage for some reason (sucky acoustics?)
Killers is a FUN band and this song makes my head and butt bounce every time it comes on
ooga chucka indeed
Well said...........

Brandon Flowers (lead singer, The Killers) likes being a bit "ambiguous", so I'm sure he'd be quite flattered by the comparison. I think Freddie was in a class of his own, as a vocalist, though.
I've seen these guys live (only once, mind you, so it may have been an "off night"). The musicianship was stellar, but the singing was pretty flat. And that's being kind. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they used a lot of "Pro Tools" on their studio recordings.
Solid 4, from here.
I saw them at Lolla in '05 and I'd say the same. Flowers was consistently flat throughout the performance. The band was tight and showed good muscianship, though.
Agreed.

there's a lot of 80's stuff I was glad to forget....

I wish it was Talking Heads .....
At least the passion's there...
Oooga chucka, chucka chucka!!!
I agree. I was looking forward to hearing the other tracks after this one, and after the first listen I haven't gone back to it. I still play Hot Fuss on a regular basis though. Oh well.

The Killers are an ecletic group when it comes to their music.
This song borrows a lot from Road to Nowhere.
(EDIT) Whoops, should have read all the comments, this has been discussed before. At least I'm not crazy.
Guess what, classical and jazz aficionados use "pop" as a pejorative term for Rock. It's a pretty childish term if you ask me.
Tell that to the Jacksons.

Was it Road to Nowhere?

I quite like them but this statement is just flat out untrue.
They are channeling OMD, and better that OMD would have done... =)
8!

The Killers - This Is Your Life
Talking Heads - Sax And Violins
which tainted this song, and now I hear david byrne
dmnit!
I think he's not the BEST singer; he likes to sing a bit above his range, especially in stuff like "When You Were Young."
And yet, I've come to appreciate that they're a really good pop/rock band. They don't seem likely to change the world but they do craft some really fun songs - and this is one.
Well, who seems "likely to change the world" anyhow? This band has a lot of well-crafted, melodic songs; what more can anyone ask?

This is a pretty fair album, if you're lookin' to buy. A 7 on this tune from the middleoffreakin'nowhere jury.
Bill needs to add a 0.5 rating.
errr, nope...
I agree. You give it a 7, I'll go 8 and it'll work out.
6
I'd say most of the clowns that post their self-righteous negative critiques here. They tuned in from their ClearChannel Classic Rock Station(tm), having never listened to alternative/eclectic/college radio before and are expecting to hear Freebird.
8, like most Killers material.
For me, the common link between this and Coldplay is that they both lift ideas from Kraftwerk. This song has a keyboard riff that sounds a lot like the one from "Europe Endless".
You're good. That's exactly what this sounds like. You should be in the music business.
(but do you like this song or not?)
me too ... got a real Talking Heads bass line march and snappy drum ... Road to Nowhere?
anyway, really dang groovy ...
This is Your Life: 2 - Marginal
I don't agree but if you really feel that way why haven't you given it a rating. You haven't rated any song! Come on support your team!
Geez, it'd be great to hear more of them.
Why are there no 10 ratings then?
It's not just you. I suppose coming from Vegas it is unavoidable.
If you liked Hot Fuss (because it's awesome), then you'll hate this bubbly crap and wonder what happened to their edge? I wish I knew what happened to them.
Lots of people have replied to this, but I happen to think that this is pretty good, and I loved Hot Fuss. A band does not have to play the same stuff on every album...look at Beck. 7 from me.
Maybe 'cause it's fun? The lyrics are dumb, yeah, but a nice change of pace from the dreadfully earnest serious oh-so-serious singer-songwriter artistes that tend to make up a goodly proportion of the cuts around here.
I mean, I like those too, but a change of pace is needed now and then and Bill, genius that he is, seems to know this as well as anyone.
7 from me.

"Wait for something better...wait for it...", indeed... Get that Hot Fuss edge back, Brandon. We know it is in there somewhere just dying to get back OUT! WTF happened?
I know that I can't type"??
Something better indded then corporate american radio. HEARTS!

I'm with you. It seems like they've just been going through the motions on the last 2 releases. Really bummed about this latest effort - they showed a lot of potential with their Hot Fuss release.
My thoughts exactly.
If you like their sound, definitely check out their initial release: Hot Fuss

indeed
Love these guys...just picked-up this CD recently. They seem to have a good sense of humor too. I saw them on Jimmy Kimmel back in '07 or '08, I believe, and they did a bit where they were riding around in a station wagon with Jimmy joking about how they got their name. Funny stuff. Hope their latest project does well for them. I caught their show in Tampa @ USF in for their 2nd CD (Sam's Town) and really liked their sound and energy LIVE. IMHO, it will be hard for them to top their first release, however, as it was just that good!
