Russian radio translation: "This is Moscow speaking, all radio transmitters in the soviet union are broadcasting. we have received news from the state news agency Tass about the world's first flight of man in space."
I am a rocket, the power of the system, it's bullet-proof technology,
Oh we're going to a new world, going to a better place.
This is just the first step, and everyone will follow me, hold me up as an example,
There's no need to watch my back cos my friends have got it for me.
I'm gonna go down in history, as the man who made a difference, call me egotistical,
Well how dare you care you call me selfish - I'm doing this for mankind!
Cos I am a rocket, a child of the motherland, pioneer for humanity,
I'm a wholesome superhero for the worldwide society.
We're heading out to outer space, we're going forth for the human race.
I am a prodigy, a part of the master plan, a symbol of equality,
Blasting out into the future - I'm a man defying gravity!
They'll build me a monument, name everything after me, schools and hospitals,
Armies of boys and girls, I'm gonna live forever - immortality is mine!
We're heading out to outer space, we're going forth for the human race.
Russian radio: "The cosmonaut pilot of the space ship Sputnik Vostok is the citizen of the Soviet Union of Socialist Respublics, pilot Major Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin."

Yoksa, I'm not sure where did you get that this is Serbian music? At best it is West Balkans (i.e. Bulgaria/Romania and yes some parts of Serbian or more correct "vlaska" music).
You can actually hear Russian language in the background.
But no worries mate, not looking for an argument, simply stating.
Cheers

86 people rate this as "godlike". Wow.
The perfect soundtrack for performing an extremely tedious and repetitive task after a long and tedious day--and getting punchy. I know of what I speak.
Reminds me of "The Specials-Ghost Town"
Sorry you drank the fake Kool-aid. Please wake up now.

Last year I have visited Moscow and their Museum of Cosmonautics, and in there they have small cafe, like a dinner type with the deco from that era. At the table next to me there were two British students who asked waiters if they can play one song and this was the song they played. Such a fun !

Quirky. Fun. Not every song must be " Stairway to Heaven." Come to think of it, that's funny.
How many years have I been hearing this space set from Bill? Still love it.
Not funny... There only needed to be one *They Might Be Giants*. Come to think of it, we don't need them either; we only needed one *Bonzo Dog Band.*

Not bad at all.
Not a great song, but a great sequence though (after Major Tom and Space Oddity).
Curious what's next... :)

interesting track and very catchy
Really bad song with cosmic theme. I'd rather prefer for example "Minor Earth, Major Sky" by a-ha.

It sounds more influenced by klezmer music than it does Eastern/gypsy music. It's obviously must more electronic than Gogol Bordello.
I don't hear the similarity with Gogol Bordello, there is no energy in this song and it doesn't make me feel like jumping around and staying all night out.
It's repetitive, quite basic and slow. There is a slavic sound yes, but it's not the same as the balkans.
this song is like a parody of I-don't-know-what.

This song is definitely missing an accordion and a balalaika for the full effect.

This in spades. irritating and silly in equal measures.
I dislike this song. Dislike it quite strongly. It reminds me greatly of They Might Be Giants, whose redeeming features in my mind involve anything to do with Skip, Fast Forward, Play Something Different, or just plain Off.
However I admire the resilience, in the face of of low ratings and negative comments, of keeping on playing it. Maybe there is something there. Maybe it is actually good. Perhaps it is not deeply annoying. I can't see it myself, but will keep on trying.
And if you like They MIght Be Giants, I take my hat off to you. I just haven't got there quite yet.

It seems to this musical ignoramus that the vocoder is used for effect in this song, which is a musical satire on the Soviet personality cult of Yuri Gagarin. The guy is supposed to sound like a spaceman, after all.
In general, I hate the vocoder, which has come back with an unpleasant vengeance in mainstream pop, but IMO it works in this song.
Vocoder/megaphone/distorted vocals are DONE! Once the Beatles used it with Tomorrow Never Knows, it became a cliche and it's been tiresome ever since. It ruined Daft Punk's last album for me. Please consider deleting this song from RP, Bill

This smacks of a local band up here in CowTown, Plaid Tongued Devils. They had an album (and a play to go with it!) called In Klezskavania, which was their term for their type of music.
Klezmer mixed with Ska mixed with a general eastern European flavour they best described as Vania.
This song sounds Klezskavania to me!!
I like the klezmer/middle eastern/eastern European, influence. What genre could you call this? There's that crazy eastern European style with a lot of brass and bouncing around, sounds a bit like that.

Sorry, no more polka music, plz. Oompa oompa oompa.
Ugh. Reminds me of the song which accompanies the German bobsledder's splitting body suit video; I am a Gummi Bear.
Still a 1.
One of the coolest things I ever saw was the Yuri Gagarin monument in Moscow. I lived close by. He was the first man in space and is a Russian national hero, as he should be. Great man.
love it......great way to break up the flow......
Oh Nooooooooo Mr. Bill?!?!?!
Exactly, well put. I don't think I'm going to rush to my local iTunes store and buy this, but eh, whatsamattaforu? Just a little absurdism with an Eastern European flavor to give your Friday a nipple twist. 6.

Songs like this I have to remove my ear plugs until the it is over.
And every April 15th...
I like it a lot more than I used to, mostly because I can crank it here at work and really annoy my coworkers.
