heaven
is the whole of the heart
and heaven don't tear you apart
yeah heaven
is the whole of the heart
and heaven don't tear you apart
there's too many kings
wanna hold you down
and a world at the window
gone underground
there's a hole in the sky
where the sun don't shine
and a clock on the wall
and it counts my time
and heaven
is the whole of the heart
and heaven don't tear you apart
yeah heaven is the whole of the heart
and heaven don't tear you apart
there's a song on the air
with a love-you line
and a face in a glass
and it looks like mine
and i'm standing on ice when i say
that i don't hear planes
and i scream at the fools
wanna jump my train
and heaven is the whole of the heart
and heaven don't tear you apart
yeah heaven is the whole of the heart
and heaven don't tear you apart
yeah heaven
ah heaven
yeah heaven

This song is great. But Heartbreak Beat from the same album is propably their best song! Just wonderful.

I never tire of this song. Love the Furs! Saw them back in the day and they were great. Keep it coming Bill. More FURS
I can't explain it well, but the single note chord progression- I think it 's piano and guitar- just set up such a wonderful rhythm and melody. Iconic.
My appreciation for this band continues to grow.
Fantastic!!
SUPERB!! ICONIC!! Even better NOW in FLAC w/ great studio phones, amp & DAC! Thanks RP!
Saw Amusement Parks on Fire open for the Happy Mondays who opened for the Furs at Dallas House of Blues ages ago. My pals and I were there for the Mondays. The Furs sounded so album perfect I suspected they had audio enhancements of some kind going on. It was a great show.

In 1984 I didn't realize how much I'd like this song 37 years in the future. Christ Jesus, that long ago?
Love me some Furs......
Had tix to see them this summer before the pandemic. Guess they will have to remain on my bucket list.....

Such romantics....Into You Like A Train. So many great tunes and the Butler Bros are still rocking. FAB.
I used to smoke lots of terra Coto those days😁
Great song - bested only by "Love My Way". "Pretty in Pink" pretty good also.
8 ---> 9
Argh. Now in Friday afternoon waiting zone (before 5pm) in the cube agonizing over whether it'd be Heaven or The Ghost In You on my Top 10 desert island playlist.

"Shoe-gazer…".
That's a new one for me....
Every time I hear this, I like it a little bit more.

None of the bands you mentioned are "shoe-gazer" bands. They all preceded that silly phrase by quite some time and their music was very different. Anyhow, great tune, good times.
Saw them live at an outdoor show in the early 80s. I was never a big fan of the shoegazer genre btu there Ar esome songs and bands who did work I enjoyed then and still like to hear now (The Smiths, Flock of Seagulls, Modern English, etc.). The psy Furs put on an amazing show. They had a woman who played electric cello - very goth like and a fantastic musician. I was saddened to hear that she died in an auto accident many years ago. There are some songs that evoke a time and place which will never be replicated is one of those songs.

Gave it a 7 because it rhymes with "heaven". Like able enough, and evocative of a certain era.

Your outrage is misplaced - I just dislike the genre. Except for musical production I couldn't care less how they use their orifices. For all I know these guys follow the common convention, and if not I feel no need to intervene.

Back in the 80s your band had to play at least one Furs tune or you just weren't cool - reflected coolness.

Classic 80s motifs. Sooooooo tuneful.
Saw them back in their day and during the encore, Mr. Butler tried out some new songs, had to read the lyrics from a sheet. But that's not the story. A couple people jumped up on stage to dance with the band and as the bouncer was about to throw them off, Mr. Butler waived him off and let them stay. So others got bold and jumped and he kept the bouncer at bay. Before he was a 1/3 of the way through the song, 50+ people were onstage happily dancing away shoulder to shoulder - stage got maxed out and a bunch of girls were hanging on Butler so much he had a hard time reading his unmemorized lyrics. Quite the cool spectacle. He stoked out a lot of people that night. No one got hurt and nothing got damaged.
Whoah...Just tepped into the Way Back Machine.
I miss them.
Ahhh, one of the great concerts at the "First Avenue" club in Minneapolis.
Definitely that 80's sound ....
me too. when my son was a little guy, we'd sing 'Kevin' out the window to the neighbor kid... stephw wrote:

memories of my middle school dance. Awkward boys trying to dance with shy girls.
All Furs music is great - but the recordings would seriously benefit from a long overdue remastering!
Love Richard Butler's scratchy voice... always have.
This is one of my favorites from them; sweet melody, great guitar sound, and Richard Butler's vocals are outstanding. Well...I think so anyhow.

That's funny - I uploaded this one too and it was accepted. (For the band name, your submission has "The" and mine is missing the definite article)
So which of us gets credit?
After reading your list of favorites and highest-rated tracks, I can see you are obviously a man of fine taste and good distinction. Therefore, the credit shall be yours.
Yes! I uploaded this song & I still think it's a great song. I saw these guys a few years back with the B-52s and they were great.
