Blue eyes crying in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we'd never meet again
Love is like a dying ember
And only memories remain
And through the ages i'll remember
Blue eyes crying in the rain.
Someday when we meet up yonder
We'll stroll hand in hand again
In the land that knows no parting
For blue eyes crying in the rain.
And that album cover kicks ass.
My favorite WN song. It makes me sad for his passing, even though he's still with us. It will be a very sad day indeed for us. Don't often throw the title "American Treasure" around, but if not Willy, who? Thank you Mr. Nelson for being so woven into the American fabric for so many years. We love you.
OMG, I wrote my comment and then read yours. We were thinking the same thing. I think my favorite is I Guess I've Come to Live Here In Your Eyes.
Absolute garbage cant sing.
I wish your parents weren't so hard on you. My sympathies.
I always thought Willie wrote it, because he just 'owns' it. But it was written by Fred Rose for Roy Acuff. Regardless, this is perfect confluence of the writer's and performer's gifts. This is what 10s are for.

Interesting, me too. Filed away, thanks!
A beautiful song from my favorite album about a cuckold who goes on a mass murdering rampage.
Don't understand your post entirely, sorry, but "mass murder rampage", with Kerouac backpacked?
Not a giant fan of the Willie man, but have to say this particular tune is an exception.
What's brilliant is that it's part of a complex concept album.
The one preceding this is similar. Check out "Phases and Stages" - https://www.cambridge.org/core...
My fave of his? "Valentine" on "Across the Borderline"
Bless you Willie, 90 years and many more to come.

Name me a song that everybody knows
And I'll bet you it belongs to Acuff-Rose
Children in the playground, the folks in the home
Anybody anywhere who's ever been alone

If by "musical instrument" you mean "cat in heat howling in a dumpster", then yeah, musical, indeed. Dude is so tone deaf it hurts. Add his plinking/twanging guitar. I truly don't get why people like his music..
You suck.
Can't believe I rated it a mere 9?!?
Bless you Willie.
it may be his best

This is a beautiful little song. It is no more complicated than that.
His voice is a musical instrument.

I wish I understood this, but the only thing I know about Morgan Fairchild is that she was the wife of Jon Lovitz's Pathological Liars Anonymous Association character... :P

Hot and sweaty, crazy crowds.

Probably the series my husband and I saw. The Hot Club of Cowtown opened for Willie who opened for Bob. Your right in that Willie, and the Hot Club, rocked and Bob was...welll....Bob. He mumbled and looked across the stage, but his band was HOT! Unfortunately, I didn't see Bob's whole set as hubby was like, "we should go before the crowd leaves" or something. Yeah...first set....alas the petulant me said "fine...."

Serendipitously surprised by Allusive alliteration!

(To be sung to the tune of the first line of 'Oh! Susannah')
"Oh... I.... call mah willy Nelson, 'cos he's only got one eye".
You're welcome
The album's called Red Headed Stranger for the same reason Jackson Brown
wanted to "introduce you to my red headed friend"... ;-)

hmmmm....had a bit of a "how the HELL did BillG know" moment there. A little while ago I looked up the Who song "Behind Blue Eyes" to see what the rating was (related to a conversation with a friend recently) and I saw this Willie song below it....well now it's playing and I'm happy to say I have it rated a 9 ;-)

Then, he preceded to join the local blues band that was playing on the small stage. Of course, one of the songs he played was "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," and I was amazed by our luck to be in this small bar at the right time.
In the small crowd around the stage, there was a guy that I overheard telling his friend, "Check out all these hot girls around us!" I was like, 'Excuse me, but that is "the" Willie Nelson playing up there!'
get out!
was it Chicago Bar on Speedway?
My thoughts exactly.
I mirror your comments esp. the reference to all things twangy (although I adore much acoustic) but I agree this is simply perfection.
:-) :-)

You and me both, brother. I used to sing this song while washing dishes at the cafe were I worked part-time to pay tuition.
Twenty years old, hardly a dime to my name, but the world was filled with music and possibilities.
CHEERS NAGS! (yuk, dishwashing is rough stuff and this is one spirit enlightening tune for diversion : )

Yes. Great segue.
Got to love Wille for both honorably dealing with his IRS issues while all along the way being unapologetic in his love for The Herb.
King Willie!
This song is a beauty, got me teary-eyed when I first heard it like 40 effin' years ago, and I still love it
He's a blast in this cool movie too! Oh and thanks for the great wet willie Imkirok!!!
Sorry, Dad. I have grown up, and I still don't care for (most) country music.
if you mistake the over produced recycled 80s pop that Nashville has decied on, can't blame you. that ain't " COUNTRY "
The whole album is a masterpiece - a true 10 throughout
Absolutely true. It's difficult to hear just one song from this album, the whole is so much larger than the sum of the parts. It is the musical version of an epic.
But for me, this song is perfection. Simple, real, well played - an exemplar of what it is.
Yuh gotta love Willie

We live in the same world as the soulless drudges who espoused these feelings. But we don't have to share the hollow existence that a person who rates Air a 10 and this song a 1. Selah.
The sheriff banished the charges, providing Mr. Nelson sung a song. Which he did, and they were. So everyone went away happy.
The best part is joined the local band on stage and played this very song...right place at the right time I guess.
Awesome story! Wish I could have seen that.
Love this beautiful song. Makes me a little sad for an era of country music that is long gone.
Not me. I don't consider Willie part of "Main Stream Country Music."
