I've felt you coming girl, as you drew near
I knew you'd find me, cause I longed you here
Are you my desitiny? Is this how you'll appear?
Wrapped in a coat with tears in your eyes?
Well take that coat babe, and throw it on the floor
Are you the one that I've been waiting for?

As you've been moving surely toward me
My soul has comforted and assured me
That in time my heart it will reward me
And that all will be revealed
So I've sat and I've watched an ice-age thaw
Are you the one that I've been waiting for?

Out of sorrow entire worlds have been built
Out of longing great wonders have been willed
They're only little tears, darling, let them spill
And lay your head upon my shoulder
Outside my window the world has gone to war
Are you the one that I've been waiting for?

O we will know, won't we?
The stars will explode in the sky
O but they don't, do they?
Stars have their moment and then they die

There's a man who spoke wonders though I've never met him
He said, "He who seeks finds and who knocks will be let in"
I think of you in motion and just how close you are getting
And how every little thing anticipates you
All down my veins my heart-strings call
Are you the one that I've been waiting for?

This song caused me to have a new appreciation for Nick Cave
Just saw him in Copenhagen... how many times can he transform and still grab an audience?  love this song and album, but the BAd Seeds are so much more live.
Funny, although I know this song/Nick Cave, as I was listening without looking up at the RP website, my first thought when I heard the voice was "Darius Rucker"...
More moaning than singing, but then perhaps that's the intention.

I'll enthusiastically second that recommendation. His writing this past year has been particularly profound.

And I will gladly renew attention for that recommendation of the Red Hand Files , for they are as profound as ever

whilst rating this a 10
What an impressive song by NC! He is so talented and instantly recognizable from his deep voice.

I love this ambiguous comment. I also LOVE this entire album.
sheesh
Nick's newish album Ghosteen is incredibly beautiful and heartbreaking.  Goes into the love for his son and the grief of dealing with his death.
I highly recommend it.
First time hearing this, where else but Paradise?

I repeat...nick, you rock.
Yikes, that album cover; "As you can see, we've had our eye on you for some time now, Mr. Anderson."
Can there be such a thing as melancholic bliss? If so, this album is it for me.
Great song. Nick rocks{#Music}
Delighted I have finally "caught up" with Nick Cave via RP. Had a couple of pals who were really into Nick Cave, at the time. They were on to something for sure.
Nick Cave is great. Often under rated. Good songwriter. Good performer.
Nick Cave is one of the greatest artists of our times. So glad to hear him here.
stunning.

It's not flat, it's nasal.
Hootie? Is that you?

Lovely song. Great voice.
I love the segue into the Handsome Family!  Awesome.
Nick´s deep warm voice in this song is nourishing a part in my tender heart..... Saw him last year in Germany, so happy have been there....
Love it!
My soul (sole) mate is lurking, right around the corner!
His voice sounds hauntingly like Mark Sandman of Morphine. Nice cerebral tune.
song is righteously cool! his glare, not so much, looks like Billy Hav-o, chain smoking 8th grader who grew up to be a taxi driver
Something about this song calls to mind The Bangles' Eternal Flame.  Not sure what tho...
One of the few good Nick Cave songs
Nick Cave sings flat sometimes throughout the song...yet it works.
Neil Young's Evil Twin!  Way to put it, Bill — I was just thinking, looking at that cover, Hey, that reminds me of the glare Neil gives off on After the Gold Rush...  By the way, many of my British friends have often been surprised that I have known about Nick Cave for so long already, and Thanks, because RP is the reason!
March 29th at The Beacon Theater, NYC! Can't wait!!

Sounds more like Massive Attack, but hey, who am I to comment.
Have just upped this from a 7 to a 9. Beautiful, melancholy, .... cannot think of the right adjectives.
A new orchestration would have a darker mood... more bass and maybe a cello...But the lyrics and melody would hold...Yeah, only 15 years old...But new century new sounds..

Nice song. I'm not too familiar with Nick. I always thought of him, perhaps wrongly or inaccurately, as a graduate of the NYC CBGB crowd. The only song by him that I own is on the multi-artist soundtrack of Until The End of the World, an early '90s Wim Wenders film.

....and that is a wonderful soundtrack - some incredible tracks by many incredible artists!  Soundtrack is better than the film.  Before NC was solo he was in a punk|hardcore band called "The Birthday Party" which has some great tunes if your inclined to the intensity of that type of music.

Oooh Nick Cave, you're such a litmus test for cool. Seriously though, can somebody tell me if his coolness is derived from the quality of his music or are these two qualities inextricably mixed?
i had no idea Mr. Cave could sing. I love his music, but i rarely think of his vocals as 'singing'... this is incredible

Awesome! Though I am surprised that MTV and its viewers have good enough taste to award Mr. Cave anything.

Poetry emotion.
This IS a pretty one.
Beautiful.
A brilliant album throughout.

All Nick Cave good.{#Notworthy}
Didn't Bonnie Tyler cover this?  No?  Why does it seem so bizarrely familiar?
A little ho-hum for my taste. zzzzzzz.

First, I do apologise if you have just recieved two, or three empty, messages - my browser was opening new pages then immediately stepping back to last link...

Good spot but my shopping trip wasn't as a local.

On that day, last November, when I shopped in Waitrose on Western Rd I was on my way from Gatwick to visit at a friend's home on Shoreham Beach. I did live, further west along the coast, in Sompting but moved away in 1992. I recall that Nick Cave had a large bunch of brussel sprouts.

By coincidence, I'm heading that way again this weekend.

You do meet an interesting bunch on RP, I had another message from a fellow listener who thought I lived nearby as my location tag is "Halfway to Paradise" - he lived between Chico and Paradise in California and made some connection between me and the town of Chico. That tag is more of an allusion to the music magazine show aired on Channel 4 abt 20 years ago, it also had that eclectic thread running through.

Really? He was behind me at Nero's the other month. He does get about that Mr Cave.

That's a beautiful song for such a young man to have written. Think I'll have to learn that one, thanks Bill. I give it a solid 9.

Grrr.  ITunes doesn't have this album.
This song made me think:  we don't get as much Nick Cave as we used to here at RP...  too bad really, I like just about everything he does.

A solid 10 if there ever was one.  One of Nick's best, and that's saying a lot.

Same here.

Holy crap! It's a Nick Cave song I can actually put up with!

This isn't too bad...not the best thing I've heard, but I didn't mute it like I do a lot of his other stuff.

This song is so nice. Hard to imagine as ugly a mug as Nick Cave singing it :)

I agree! This album is just fantastic. I read a review of this album in the New Yorker after I got the CD and my favorite line in it went something like this: "If Nick Cave is capable of creating an album like this why was he yelling at us for all those years?"
This incredible album, and this song in particular, is what introduced me to Nick Cave.
Especial para un día como hoy 19 de diciembre de 2007
pretty nice! I'm not very familiar with him or his work, but he has a very nice voice.
What a lovely song!
Cool! Nice atmosphere.
I've noticed that Nick Cave fans are largely divided in their opinion of this album. Personally, I rate it among my favourite, but I can see why some would rather his harder, louder, grittier work.
I'm with the people who consider this song snoozeworthy. I'd much rather hear more of Cave's edgier stuff.
I know you get this all the time, but this is a nice set, BillG. Nice "welcome back" to the office on a Monday.
My goodness. When did this guy learn to sing? Nice.
You know, I am not against this guy...but right now I can't drag myself any slower and this song drips slower than glue. Its like a shot of anesthia! Can't stay awake
Beautiful! Don't think I've heard this NC tune before... love him

Not bad when he's not all mopeylike.
Are you the one ... ?
Great song from a great album.
