Under the dog star sail
Over the reefs of moonshine
Under the skies of fall
North, north west, the stones of Farve
Under the Arctic fire
Over the seas of silence
Hauling on frozen ropes
For all my days remaining
But would north be true?
All colours bleed to red
Asleep on the ocean's bed
Drifting on empty seas
For all my days remaining
But would north be true?
Why should I?
Why should I cry for you?
Dark angels follow me
Over a godless sea
Mountains of endless falling,
For all my days remaining,
What would be true?
Sometimes I see your face,
The stars seem to lose their place
Why must I think of you?
Why must I?
Why should I?
Why should I cry for you?
Why would you want me to?
And what would it mean to say,
That, 'I loved you in my fashion'?
What would be true?
Why should I?
Why should I cry for you?
Over the reefs of moonshine
Under the skies of fall
North, north west, the stones of Farve
Under the Arctic fire
Over the seas of silence
Hauling on frozen ropes
For all my days remaining
But would north be true?
All colours bleed to red

Drifting on empty seas
For all my days remaining

Best line: Dark angels follow me, over a guideless Sea. Chilling.
This record hits me right in the feels. Especially when you know the story behind it. Masterpiece.

That is what the "skip button " is for! ...Case closed!! Use it! PS: I like this tune! A LOT of other RP listeners like it too. Everybody has different tastes.
I need a Sting filter...so overplayed and overrated.

This is a beautiful song made after his father death, just love it.

Saw them in '81 during the tour for "Ghost in the Machine". One of the best live performances I've ever seen. Focused from start to finish.
And Soul Cages might be his best solo record.
I couldn't disagree more with the assessment of the showmanship and performance of Sting, and of the Police in their latest tour. I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl this summer and it would have to go in the top five concerts I've ever seen. No, they are not hopping around like kids anymore ... but from a sheer *musicianship* point of view, these guys were at the top of their game.

Saw this tour. Vinx did some pre-show and was damn funny!!! Got the crowd going at least...
Sting referred to the Soul Cages as 'the least loved, least understood of all my recorded efforts, but despite that cold reception it did establish a select and loyal constituency of listeners'. It's his most personal album, and this song is at the heart of it. I love it.
Stink
This sounds like a different version than the one I'm used to hearing. Maybe it just sounds different in headphones.

I was just thinking the same thing about some of the Posters on RP's forms, as I was reading through some of the comments.
Torture yourself, don't hit the PSD button when a song you don't like comes on.
Then, when your done, come the forms and lay down a BIG steamer.
Why Should I Cry for You?
Why should we have to listen to your whiney drivel Sting?

Since he left the Police, he's become a boring self-referential preacher.
Underrated tune on an underrated album, thanks for playing.

I forgot about this little gem from the Stingster. One of the better songs from his catalogue.

Sounds like the gasping drivel of a suffocating man. Could Sting have wimped out any more than this. What is it about a lot of money that takes the soul out of a musician? Good lord.
i gave this a 9. i know there are sting haters .. and i can appreciate where some of the criticism comes from .. but a lot of it seems to be band-wagon criticism .. i heard this song and it brought me back to a really nice summer. many of my ratings have to do with nostalgia and emotions associated with songs .. but whatareyagonna do .. i am surprised that this song has such a high rating since i anticipated there would be more sting haters out there ...
Great song, great album.

Sting has certainly lost his luster. I'll never pay to see him in concert again as every time I do I'm struck board by the utter lack of showmanship, creativity, and energy. Still I like allot of his music, I guess it brings back good memories. Call it a guilty pleasure I suppose.
Stink
Sounds like S. Winwood on keyboard!

Sting, the question is more, "Why should I go to your Police reunion tour when everyone who's seen it can't stop talking about how much it sucks?"
They (the three of them) probably don't need the money and we certainly don't need to fork over fifty bucks a ticket ...
Despite my sentiments about the singer/songwriter, this tune rates merit. ^-^~

in college, one of our a capella groups did the most stirring arrangements of this song.
This album is about the loss of his father. This song made me cry everytime I heard it before my father died, now I have something profound in common with the song. It's really an amazing song.

God, I love this song...make me want to cry with him.

IMHO this album is Sting's most honest and best post-Police album.
i concurrently concur
Sting has had a long and varied career. Obviously his solo work is in a markedly different direction than the catalog of the Police however the one thing that remains consistant is his dedication to his muse and adherence to well executed and thoughtful production in any direction he is pursuing. That being said, I find this on of his best realized songs.
One of my all-time favorite Sting songs...
IMHO this album - despite being dark - is Sting's most honest and best post-Police album.
A lovely tune.
Just a lovely, lovely song, one of his best. A 9.
