This is not popular I am sure, but I am glad RP continues to play songs/bands (not just this one) in spite of all the negative comments and people that don't care for it. There are things I don't care for, they are either tolerable ad I listen, or not and I skip. Even if I don't like it---it is people putting their heart and soul into their music, and I appreciate that.

The most over-hyped band I've ever encountered (and I was working as a radio DJ in the mid-70s). I don't understand the critical acclaim. I've listened to just about everything they have done and it's all spectacularly boring.
Curiously, band members have done excellent work on the recordings of other artists, but this band consistently produces drab dross.

Up until now, I've reserved comment on the Chilis. I wanted to give Anthony Kiedis the benefit of the doubt, and Flea? Well, he's in a universe all his own. And it's scary. The rhymes are juvenile, but then they're incredibly intelligent rap. I hate rap. Maybe if I was in the boarder-surfer ilk, this band would float my boat. I just haven't been able to get avid about them, although I have to admit, on a hot summer day in suburbia with nothing to do but kick back with a cold beer and soak up the sun, they're good on the ears.
I'm still ambiguous about them. Some days I love their music, and other days, I just want to shriek in horror and frustration. I guess this is another of those extreme bands - either one loves them or hates them, and any attempt to be middle-ground results in brain-fry. I wonder if some of the comments reflect the fact that fans of RHCP have not evovled as much as the band. People evovle with time, and so do bands. I actually like this, but given some comments, you would think the band had become a steaming pile of .... ;-)

Indeed. Anthony Kiedis' is a great rapper. The early Chili Peppers' music was fresh and original. now his melodies are all the same. Talk about a one trick pony and not a very good one at that.
The Peppers have gone the way of so many before them, on the off ramp to the easy listening bin. How unfortunate.

Hard to understand the RP listener.. I find this song has the RP feel to it. I was saying that it's cool that by listening to RP, you can weed out all the noisy, too many notes songs and just get the cream.

Sadly everything I've heard from them since the late 1990s has been similar. Blood Sugar Sex Majik was really their high point.

I believe rock and roll is giving it all you got even if you might not exactly be the most skilled in that area. I mean, what are we sayin, only american idol people should be allowed to sing songs just because they can technically sing, yuch. Music's just a big piece of pie and everyone deserves a chance for a slice. He must be doing something right to be around for 20 years. Who can say they are doing that and still relevant, besides U2?

a) It took them until Mother's Milk to figure out that songs need melodies

So, to conclude. They're not a SHITTY band and, yeah, they've gotten better, but they won't be remembered as one of the greats. They're more likely to be remembered for the sock thing than their craftshmanship, IMHO.

Hey, it's a legit point of view. I'll certainly grant you that Flea is a great bass player but I can't concede that Keidis is "a great musician" by any stretch. For what it's worth I didn't like them even before they were really popular.
There are PLENTY of worse bands out there but I still maintain that:
a) It took them until Mother's Milk to figure out that songs need melodies

I hear what you're saying, but they did release a double album that has pretty much any style you want. This just happens to be one of the mellower tunes and yes they don't write as many aggresive songs but certainly more than any other 40 year olds or 30 year olds for that matter. These guys could go off and right a whole funk album if they wanted to, but they all chose collectively to write for the purpose of a good song, even if they may not be using their full potential in the song at that moment and that's a true band..worried more about the song than their own contribution.
