The things that I tried
Were in my life
Just to get high on
When I sit alone
Come get a little known
But I need more
Than myself this time
Step from the road
To the sea to the sky
And I do believe
That we rely on
When I lay it on
Come get to play it on
All my life to sacrifice
Hey oh
Listen what I say oh
I got your hey oh
Now listen what I say oh
When will I know
That I really can't go
To the well once more
Time to decide on
When it's killing me
When will I really see
All that I need to look inside
Come to believe
That I better not leave
Before I get my chance to ride
When it's killing me
What do I really need
All that I need to look inside
Hey oh
Listen what I say oh
Come back and hey oh
Look at what I say oh
The more I see, the less I know
The more I like to let it go
Hey oh, woah
Deep beneath the cover
Of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided
By a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go
In between the cover
Of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Running through the field
Where all my tracks
Will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go
When to descend
To amend for a friend
All the channels
That have broken down
Now you bring it up
I'm gonna ring it up
Just to hear you sing it out
Step from the road
To the sea to the sky
And I do believe
What we rely on
When I lay it on
Come get to play it on
All my life to sacrifice
Hey oh
Listen what I say oh
I got your hey oh
Listen what I say oh
The more I see the less I know
The more I like to let it go
Hey oh, woah
Deep beneath the cover
Of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided
By a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go
In between the cover
Of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Running through the field
Where all my tracks
Will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go
I said hey, hey, yeah
Oh yeah, tell my love now
Hey, hey, yeah
Oh yeah, tell my love now
Deep beneath the cover
Of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided
By a world so undecided
And there's nowhere to go
Deep beneath the cover
Of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Running through the field
Where all my tracks
Will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go
I said hey, oh yeah
Oh yeah, tell my love now
Hey, yeah, yeah, oh yeah
This whole album is such a trip down memory lane for me.
Just about to get personal here, so feel free to skip to the next comment.
So here it goes. At the time, my girlfriend and I had been on a kind of break. We'd been dating for some time (this is a male euphemism for 5 years). She wanted to get to the next step and I had cold feet. I wasn't sure I was ready for that kind of commitment, or more to the point, that kind of commitment with her. I thought that the spark (or the zing, or whatever you want to call it) was missing. It was a nice and comforting and warm relationship, but not much spark. So here I was. I then tried to convince myself that sparks were perhaps something of a construct, something you see in films or read about in novels. [I should have known better because I had felt the spark previously]
Anyway, I remember thinking, "dude, stop with the delusional romantic crap already. You're missing your chance, and if you don't get it now you'll end up on your own with no family. " So I changed my mind and told her about it, and we arranged to meet for a week-end in a town by the sea. It was a two and half hours drive and I played and replayed this album on my way there. I was feeling both excited and scared at the same time. So this sounds like a pivotal time capsule for me every time I hear a song from this album.
This was in 2006. We got married in 2007, first kid 2008 and second 2011. I'm really happy I made this choice as I cannot imagine a world without those kids, so no regrets there. Yet, I can't help wondering what would have happened if I'd kept chasing the spark. We've got nice embers and I'm not complaining, but not too much electricity either.
Thanks for reading if you've made it this far. Not sure why I've been writing this here, but I have read quite a few very personal and very inspirational posts in the comments so I thought I'd try and reciprocate.
Thanks RP and you guys for making that kind of exchange possible.
Anthony Kiedis couldn't sing his way out of a paper bag.
It's really held them back
This Offering Is Completely Forgettable.
Not "Rock".
Not fun, energetic, or politically inquisitive.
RHCP, in my own opinion, have only 8 good songs in their Whole Catalog.
That's what I thought, definitely a big improvement over previous songs this evening!
Listen what I say oh
I got your hey oh
Now listen what I say oh
To me, there is something off with the RP ratings. How do you go from Quite Likeable to Most Excellent? I have a lot of songs rated 7 because of this and I think they aren't getting their fair due. So a song like this comes along which is Quite Likeable to be honest but not as good as a song I've rated a 7 because they aren't Most Excellent so I have to rate it a 6, which is Pretty Good.
Just about to get personal here ...

Thanks for the story, friend. I reckon if everyone waited for "the spark", 95% of the people on this planet would be alone. There's nothing wrong with warm and cosy. By the way, some of us enjoy reading the RP tales, too...

It's not the first time the RHCP laughed all the way to the bank.
This song grows on you. it kind sof rocks.
Also...the video is great. It show fans preparing, anticipating, and attending a live show.
God almighty...does anybody still remember live concerts? And the best part: anticipating those lights going down and the music starting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey ho PSD oh...
Intentional?
Sorry you feel that way, this I find to be uplifting and makes me inexplicably happy...
Different strokes, eh? And great memories from when this came out....!
And how do you feel now, when he's coming back?
I'm super excited.
Pretentious snob who thinks they're "cool" by disparaging "pop" or commercial music.
Good point, but I believe that name has already been taken.
We be dancing like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners... love it...
however, this song does not hold a candle to "Scar Tissue" which never plays here...
until they hit it big with a few songs, these boys used to make their living playing in the bars... saw them a million times... impeccable musicians... and they were also vaudevillian... they would perform onstage wearing nothing but a sock over their penises— they would have shoestrings wrapped around their wastes holding a sock on their crotches...
they were cutting edge then, so to speak...
I hope I didn't jinx it. That would be true if you play Tori Amos next.
That's a good point - with some singers, you just want them to be quiet every once in a while so you can hear the rest of the music. I'm not a big fan of this song, but it sure is a lot better than the new single I heard from their latest.
Good point there. I think he has a big EGO and wants to be in on every section of the song. Let's hear the music. The dudes behind you are talented, let them do their thing. But I love you, anyway, Anthony.
- Duke Ellington
Everybody in my church loves this song...
well said - all bow to the Queen!
God Awful Music
Let's see; Vocals, guitar, bass, drums and a melody. Yes, I think this is music.
I just went to write the exact same thing, and saw you beat me to it!
Indeed.
Or, some have a different opinion than you of what they like or don't as the case may be..can't say I hate the Peppers, but this one isn't one of their stronger tunes. In my opinion that is..
First time I hear my Favourite Band on RP and I am super excited!
These boys saved my life!
LOL, normally I would give you props for this. I don't like cool people either, but I don't like this band. No sir, I don't.
I rate it 7, but specially put 9 in the name of Global Justice!
Volume off, lets hope for something good after this.
No. After listening for some years, while there certainly exist playlists that get repeated, Bill is constantly creating new ones and sometimes amending existing ones. Occasionally, a playlist is dropped - sometimes for years - and then pops up again. Sometimes he will play a particular playlist every day for a while but that is the most you will hear it and usually a playlist is weekly or more often, monthly. All playlists consist of five tracks.
I would say there are certainly 100s of playlists and possibly 1000s.
Yes songs get repeated, but not as often as my local radio stations. I've also been introduced to some pretty cool artists over the years that sadly I'd never hear on mainstream radio.
I suppose if someone thinks the play list on RP is too short, they could make a generous donation that would allow them to pay the licensing fees on a few thousand more songs!
I don't think so. I like it as well. I think the Chilis turned a significant corner with Californication and this album—aging gracefully as it were, not an insignificant achievement for a bunch of surf punks.
yes, me too ! I love the bass line, and I'm surprised how bad the comments are about this nice swinging song. But I don't catch all the lyrics, is that the problem ?

And why does Kiedis need to fill with voice every single second they play? It gets annoying.

WORST BAND......EVER!

Yes it is.
And it's too long.
....and.....mute.
Ahhhhhhh.....
I wouldn't say any of us are actually too worked up. Speaking for myself, I simply find this track to be lame.
I think this song is pretty lame.
This wouldn't be so bad if it were never played again. . .
Other than Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic; Red Hot Chili Peppers = Suckage
2 -> 1
It sure got one from me. This should have been left in the studio.
This song is good for the ears...
oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, Agreed!
Second—- holborne.... you need to lighten up. You know exactly what tomeck meant by "kinda gay".
No, I guess I don't. Why don't you explain it?
Jeeze, you are a dense one aren't you? You see, english is a crazy language. It's full of idioms and words with multitudes of meanings. Sure, there are some really annoying trends in our language, like the misuse of "their, there, and they're" or "your and you're". However, considering you are old enough to know how to post to an internet forum, you should know by now that the word "gay" does not solely refer to homosexuals. Hell, it didn't even refer to homosexuals at all for a long time, instead it just referred to being happy. Now it has yet another meaning as a general derogatory statement. You should realize that there are people out there who use the word "gay" in such a way who have nothing against homosexuals, it's just a term they grew up with and for whatever reason they use it. There are also a lot of people who hate homosexuals and use "gay" to make people like you mad. Those people are assholes, don't give them any more power than they already have.
bump
Good call! Other than the album Blood,Sugar,Sex,Magic, they pretty much blow chunks!
5 from me.
I agree. Was really diappointed by last double cd. Love their spirit though. Great in concert.
Happy Gilmore: Hey, why don't I just go eat some hay, make things out of clay, lay by the bay? I just may! What'd ya say?
give it a ze-ro
hey oh
Cheer up. Every day above ground is a good day.
Hey Oh, listen what she say-oh.

Yea!
The more I listen to it, the more I like it. At first I thought it's kinda gay, but now i turn speakers louder, when I hear it. Strong 8.
