Hey! the street lights all burnt out
une année sans lumière
je monte un cheval
qui porte des oeillères
hey! my eyes are shooting sparks
la nuit, mes yeux t'éclairent
ne dis pas à ton père
qu'il porte des oeillères
hey, your old man should know
if you see a shadow, there's something there

This is mellow ? Cmon
not my favorite of theirs
i cant bring myself to like this band. Critics darling - i dont get them sadly.
Seeing them live this year they were awesome. An even better show than last I saw them about 4 years ago; this was another level. You will not be disappointed if you are an AF fan.
I keep hearing Pixies. Which is a good thing.
I like this. Very Pixies.

I mean that a lot of artists have a hype they don't deserve, but it's just my opinion.
Not everything is overrated, a lot of bands are underrated: The Sound, The Church, The Chameleons, Mojave 3, XTC, Doves are just few examples of underrated bands.
I prefer to tell the overrated bands so that people like you can underrate me.

I've never understood the fascination with this band.   I've even bought their CD's trying to learn to appreciate them but I've failed.    Totally lame in my opinion.

Good song. It's look like Franck Black and it's good
Cool. Funeral is possibly my favorite album ever. It's cool to hear it on here, even though this is probably my least favorite song on the album.
Great album. Love their sound.
Hmm, this album came out over 11 years ago?  Time flies by.
{#Eek}
Not much of a rave, but it starts out nicely and sustains itself. It refrains from being a pretentious thumping annoyance like some other AF tracks. I could listen to this one without resorting to the magic PSD. It's a 7. Congrats, AF, this one made the cut.

{#Yes}  Did see them live a couple of weeks ago - they were excellent, and played a lot of early stuff (and not too much from reflector, thankfully).  Highly recommend the experience if you have the opportunity.

That was one of the great things about this album - half the songs ended completely differently than they began, and for the most part it worked every time.

Jeez Bill, you do love them. Two Arcade Fire songs this morning, that was great!

To borrow from an old hockey joke, I went to an unrelated discussion and a great tune broke out. By far one of the best albums released in the last few years. And a wonderful band to see live. Excellent tune.

I usually skip this song on the album, but it was a pleasant surprise just now.
I find them phony and annoying sounding.
Still love that funky change-up at the end ... just wish it went on a bit longer!
Its interesting to hear a little about Quebec, because I certainly dont hear much in the American South. Thought it would be cool to visit but I'd probably learn some French first. Dion is a great vocalist. A few years ago I picked up a couple of her French albums and I dont understand the words much but I kind of like them better than the stuff she does in English for the USA audience. It's a different style and I'd like to think that it's a style more her own than the big voiced diva role that a lot of talented singers get 'packaged' into in the USA. Getting it done in one take is quite a feat. Good for her!

Thanks for your post, Huebdoo. You're right on all counts. First of all, this is not a political tribune and I prefer to stick to music and culture myself, just felt such rantings shouldn't be left unanswered. Much prefer your tone... Right also about the "Parizeau incident" where the said guy, then Prime minister, came at the mike after losing a referendum for separation by a small margin, utterly drunk and said the results were tilted against separation because of the "ethnic" vote. Even if his crowd cheered him (all members of his party), it caused turmoil in Quebec and he lost credibility (and his leadership). And now, the leader of that same party is a out-of-the-closet homosexual who admitted taking coke while a young lawer... I could say that is an irony of Quebec. Anyhow, back to music.

I am sooooooooo tired of that BS...not being free, Nazis etc in Quebec...geeeeeeeeeeez. I for one embrace all the cultures that can be found in Montreal. Now living in a region where I do not find this diversity, I miss it so very much. To get back to the music, I love Arcade Fire...when music and artistic expression goes beyond that simple minded rhetoric...

Love this song, especially the fast tempo coda. This album grew on me in big ways. During my first listen I thought "I've made a huge mistake," somewhere around the 5th the lightbulb came on, and now it's on my top 10. Can't wait for Neon Bible!

I find that traveling mitigates this mentality. It seems that whenever you go somewhere, your idea of where you'd from gets bigger. If you're from say, the UK, then the Europeans are weird. But if you go to South America and meet a Frenchmen, now you're 2 Europeans surrounded by South Americans. The ideas of "us" and "them" are relative. Hopefully one day they'll be gone and everyone will just be an "us"

Personally, I'd trade the four songs RP has from this album for that one song, "Wake Up." For some reason, RP chose to accept my least favorite tracks from the album (though I still like all of them).
Well, I will admit that when I first heard arcade fire, I thought it was decent music, but nothing amazing. As I heard them more and more on RP, it started to grow on me. Then last weekend I saw a video for another of their songs (click here) (you might do better to right click on the link and choose "save target as") recorded at one of their concerts and the energy was just addictive...especially that guy who's walking around banging on the drum with as much enthusiasm as one man could have. I bought their CD, turned it up, and now I'm hooked. I also really like the variety of instruments used, and that the band is large enough to employ all those instruments.
Borrowed this album from a girl i was trying to get to know better, if ya know what i mean. They seem to have taken the Post-Rock thing in a slightly different direction. Anyway the album grew on me, sadly i can't say i did the same for the girl in question.
