Love my superstitious games
Running circles round my brain when I'm left smiling
I love to steal this living steam
My head in someone's dream
I'm tired of sleeping
Call me crank, my idea
Crank, so super
Crank, my conscience clear
I build my canopy of steel
It fulfills my sense of real
A chrome protection
Call me crank, my idea
Crank, so super
Crank, my conscience clear
It's clear
In this small partition, like a prison
Explode time bomb
If you know where I come from
You call me crank, my idea
Crank, so super
Crank, my conscience clear
Please call me crank, it's what I need
Crank, my mind in seed
Crank, my dream complete
Lay down, lay down, lay down
Running circles round my brain when I'm left smiling
I love to steal this living steam
My head in someone's dream
I'm tired of sleeping

I love this band so much. The album Adam and Eve is a secret gem.

Another act on RP that I would never heard in my ears otherwise. While I don't "love" Catherine Wheel, they have unique, powerful and audacious music, not commodified, it's art in a unique niche that was otherwise never for one minute in the repetitive payola robo noise of U.S. U2 Billy Joel, et al of commercial radio.

Distortion has been felt by a growing number of folks, and it seems to be continuing in today's world.

Not sure why I dislike distortion so much. Maybe the negative comment folks can weigh in for judgement.

In the movie, Atlantic City, Burt Lancaster plays an aging low level
Mafia flunkie. He's contacted by a young midwestern hippy couple
about getting rid of some stolen cocaine. At one point Lancaster and
the young man are walking along the Boardwalk. The young man says
he's never seen the Atlantic Ocean before. Lancaster replies that it's nothing now..."You should have seen it then."

I missed Catherine Wheel back in the early 90's, aware if them but never actually got chance to hear anything That's the beauty of RP, it provides a prompt to go back and explore.

One of my favourite college bands during the early 90s. Saw them live several times when they came to San Francisco. Much prefer their Ferment album but this one is not bad too.

I'd give it a twenty if I could. This is as good as popular music gets in my opinion.

CW is right up there with the most fortunate introductions that I have had from being a member of the RP community. Thanks to all and in particular B & R. Without RP, I doubt I'd ever have had the good fortune of hearing this sort of talent.
So this is not the main track for the Jason Statham movie of a few years ago, same title? Sex at the racetrack. Electrocution. A lot of crude body bashing, gunfire and blood. You know, happy shit.
one of my favorite songs from the 90s
This is the song that launched my strong affinity for Catherine Wheel and Rob Dickinson. It still holds up well and gives me a charge, especially when I haven't heard it in a while. CW was a heck of a band with a great catalog of albums that most people will sadly never hear. If in doubt, pick up "Adam & Eve," CW's masterpiece, and one of the best rock albums of the '90s.

Have been trying to track down this song since earring it on RP years ago - I love it!

This is what I think the song is about—
Following Feuerbach, his mentor until 1845, Marx sees the true analogy in religion. In religion in general and idolatry in particular, what are no more than productions of the human brain appear as independent beings with a life of their own. Just as gods are inseparable from their human creators, so fetishism is inseparable from the production of commodities.
After carefully reading the lyrics, and this Marxian-based perspective, I need to give you beaucoup props on making that connection. Even when I don't take my medications, I usually can't go beyond 8 or so degrees of separation without adding a big hit of blotter acid.

And there was I, thinking that it was an abnormal heeling of a ship, only recovering slowly as the winds of change brought it about.
Well, I might still be right.

'Kinell! Deep Marxism in a song - that's the sort of thing I'd only expect from the likes of Durutti Column. It sure makes a change from the usual sorts of song lyrics. Thanks for the post.

Hmmmm.... I give it a 7 on first pass, Dick.
Yet another obscure band I've never heard of before RP, that I may need to check out. I've LOVED everything I've heard so far on this album. Hell, I think I'd buy just for the CD cover alone!

Catherine Wheel was one of the best and most under-recognized/appreciated bands. Please give them a chance, listen to Chrome and Ferment... Black Metallic is possibly the greatest rock song of all time.

Thats what I thought my first couple listens!. CW songs grow on you more than any other band I think. Maybe that's why theyre such a cult band.

Can anyone explain why this stands out from the mass of alternative-post grunge bands that all sound exactly alike?
Doesn't sound bad at all. It's quite likeable! Maybe this disc will find it's way to my car's stereo.

The rest of the album insert is just as pretty. Mmmm. Swimmingly good !

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by Rob's solo album. It was much better than I expected, stronger overall than the final CW album. Luckily I saw CW two times toward the end of their run, but I missed Rob's solo show earlier this year.

Forgot to add: whenever I pickup the old electric guitar and I feel a bit rusty, this is the first song I launch into to warm up. Anyone else?

With the rock instrumentation, is it right to call this "shoegazing"? What is really meant by "shoegazing"? This must be rock to some extent, or I wouldn't be liking it.
I love the lyrics, they are so opaque!
SHOEGAZING (shu-ga-zing) verb; the act of staring at ones shoes while performing a song. see groups such as...Ride, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Stone Roses, Joy Division, New Order, Lush, Charlatans U.K., Doves, My Bloody Valintine, The Catherine Wheel and the ever popular And More.
My definition of groups I love and enjoy.
I'm not sure why, but I really like this album and this song in particular. I find it lodged in my head at odd moments - and that's really not a bad thing.
