Asked sweet mama, Let me be her kid
She said, "You might get hurt if you don't keep it hid"

Well I know my baby, If I see her in the dark
I said I know my rider, If I see her in the dark

Now, I goin' to Rosedale, Take my rider by my side
Still barrelhouse, If it's on the riverside, yeah
I know my baby, Lord, I said, "is really sloppy drunk"
I know my mama, Lord, a brownskin, but she ain't no plum

See my baby, tell her, Tell her hurry home
Had no lovin', since my baby been gone
See my baby, Tell hurry on home
I ain't had, Lord, my right mind, Since my rider's been gone

Hey, she promises, She's my rider
I wanna tell you, She's my rider
I know you're mine, She's my rider
She ain't but sixteen, But she's my rider

I'm goin' to Rosedale, Take my rider by side
Anybody argue with me man, I'll keep them satisfied
Well, see my baby, tell her, Tell her the shape I'm in
Ain't had no lovin', Lord, since you know when

Spoken: Why don't you come into my kitchen

She's a kindhearted lady. She studies evil all the time
She's a kindhearted woman. She studies evil all the time

Squeeze my lemon 'til the juice runs down my leg
Squeeze it so hard, I'll fall right out of bed
Squeeze my lemon, 'til the juice runs down my leg

Spoken: I wonder if you know what I'm talkin' about

Oh, but the way that you squeeze it girl
I swear I'm gonna fall right out of bed

She's a good rider
She's my kindhearted lady
I'm gonna take my rider by my side
I said her front teeth are lined with gold
She's gotta mortgage on my body, got a lien on my soul
She's my brownskin sugar plum...

I remember back in the late 80's/early 90s when I was in college that this was the 'holy grail' of Led Zeppelin rarities. I taped it off a buddy, who had it on a tape that he taped from a guy who had taped from another guy... and so on.

By the time I taped it, it sounded like listening to through a pillow... and I LOVED it. I wore that tape out... but not before I taped it onto a new tape (which I still have somewhere around here).

This song is on the boarder of too cool.
Growing up, I always heard the lyrics as "squeeze my liver, til the juice runs down my leg."

I love the innuendo... Still - the FCC has TOO MUCH POWER!  I wonder if this song would be allowed airplay, without censorship. Well, Plant doesn't overtly refer to "balls," so maybe it would fly under the radar of the censorgods.  Then again, most rap music just gets all the "objectionable" words bleeped (I don't care for rap, but it's pretty funny to listen to, because it's mostly a great beat and five or six words followed by a blank beat.)

And Nickleback's "Rock Star" can talk about popping pills with a Pez dispenser, but the word "drugs" is censored (this is on Jack FM, pretty much anywhere that travesty of mis-programming exists.)  "Hotel California" can say "Haven't seen a god-damned thing."  Warren Zevon's "Lawyers, Guns and Money" has the word "shit" bleeped.

I"m confused - I guess I need to do more digging on what the "holier-than-thou" FCC has as a Bible. Chances are, it'll get complicated - that happens when dealing with a mega-bureaucratic dinosaur.

I will shut up now. Got litterboxes to clean and a world to save. {#Rolleyes}

Agreed.  I largely ignored them, other than what I heard on the radio, when I was in junior high and high school - when they were at their peak.  Now, I can't get enough of them.

That could be me thank you very much, when I heard this I had to run to hit mute and saw your overwhelming affection for LZ. Robert Plants voice is so painful to my ears as it is to others, and as one listener put it "a retarded screeching Monkey" and a "1" reflects my distaste for the "Oh Baby Oh Baby Oh baby" lyricist.

So many times what sounded like a good song coming on Plants voice started screeching.

Love Radio Paradise,  a Solid Sukco Barfo "1" for LZ  IMHO...

Great, no doubt. Indeed Mr. Johnson's lyrics sounded much more risqué than this awsome version, but still has that spicy touch.

Myself, I've always found "The Lemon Song" from Led Zeppelin II (reprised in part in this piece) ridiculously funny:  great chops and laughable lyrics!

I like it!  I'll grant you that "squeeze my lemon" is a unique metaphoric request, but I appreciate that the group backs it up musically in a way that, say, Justin Timberlake probably couldn't.

I wonder if you know what I'm talkin' about?

It makes my scrotum shrivel - brrr! Nice bit of blues, though.
I wonder how many women like this song. Not me, for one. "Squeeze my lemon." It makes me laugh, when I'm not gritting my teeth.
I've always considered this to be a really raunchy song but fun nonetheless to tap your foot. It's too bad that RP doesn't seque from Traveling Roadside Blues to "Mexican Blackbird" by ZZ Top. As a "raunch-pair" they'd fit really well and they're both non-PC in a creative kind of way.

Bombast, not blues. Not even the tiniest patch on Robert Johnson's "Travelling Riverside Blues" at all.
The higher the ranking (8.3), the more people come out of the woodwork to proclaim that they know what everybody else apparently doesn't know, and that is - They know what good music is, and the rest of us poor suckers don't. Rock and Roll. 10

Is this you showing your enlightened side? Way to show some acceptance of differing opinions. Or are you simply practicing for your coming years as a Republican policy advisor?
Very few people nowadays can make such AWESOME music ....

Classic Zeppelin - an old blues song made new.

One thing just occurred to me: I wonder if the ridiculously PC environment currently pervading commercial radio is preventing rock stations from playing this song. The lyrics do make a reference to an underage girl, dontcha know. Musician friend of mine called his buddy's niece "the jailbait niece" since she was definitely under age (16), but yowza, she was "nice." I could see what ol' Robert was probably referring to!
Quite the masterpiece of raw.

This was an outtake that never made it on a "released" Zep album, but showed up on some post Bonham compilation, like Coda or something. You got to love a band that has songs considered not good enough for their albums that are still better than most.
A fine bit of blues which won't date, unlike some of Led Zep's rock output. 7 from the Nottingham jury.
Totally Taj Mahal and Negro Blues-like it may be (Oh God those guys OWE some people BIG-TIME, man!) at least, till that JP-unique riffing and noodling toward the end, but: IT SURE GETS ME GOING, WITHOUT FAIL, EVERY TIME! YEAH, BILL! JAM! DAMN!
Now this vintage Plant I get.

This song is a cover from legendary delta bluesman Robert Johnson. The music (and lyrics) were written sometime in the 1930's. As for Zep's delivery, it is phenomenal. I really wonder where some of those ridiculous comments come from sometimes.
You've got to be kidding. Much better tunes than this. It's OK>Kaiser wrote:
My favorite Zeppelin tune by far.
I'm intrigued that y'all get past the blues rifts to actually listen to the lyrics.

They are so amazingly fluid. Everything just flows together so well...

Quintessential Zep!
Oh Yeah Bill! Blowing up the headphone over here!!
My favorite Zeppelin tune by far.

Can't think of a better combo than Jimmy Page's Guitar and Robert Plant's voice. They are both great instruments that just carry on each other, both intertwined and yet individual.

I will never understand. Ten, all the way. Fifteen, if I could. Effin' brilliant. If I were a stripper, this would be in my dance repertoire.
I remember the first time I heard this song...I found myself standing still with my mouth hanging open...FREAKING BRILLIANT blues!! S~
