Bless the father bless the son
Cross your heart 'cause you're the one
Collectin' moon-beams in the mornin'
Curvy sticks and wooden poles
Assistin' you in pluggin' holes
Plug them holes till you see straight through to the mind's eye
Think about it turn around
And go back to the quiet sound
Of Jim and Dan prancin' round the pool
You were the fool, and I feel sorry for you
You were the fool, but there's something you can do
You can wash your arm in a pool of mud
You can chop a tree prevent a flood
You can speak with a turtle just by flippin' him around
You can build a boat sail the sea
You can buy a moat forge a key
Initiate the sequence create catastrophe
Think about it turn around
And go back to the quiet sound
Of Jim and Dan prancin' round the pool
You were the fool, and I feel sorry for you

Oh man, I can imagine the confusion bound to be experienced by anyone who dives into Ween on the merits of just one of their songs. Eclectic doesn't even begin to describe their catalog. Schizophrenic maybe?
This was my first exposure to them back in the MTV days.
Push the Little Daisies!!! Definitely a WTF did I just watch video....

This band constantly amazes. In the 90s I dismissed them as trivial until the Quebec album WOW!!! I am not a country fan but I love the risks this band takes and the fact that they are a one trick band.

Miles away from their song Transdermal Celebration. I still like it tho.
Dean Ween & Gene Ween.
Parents were sure looking ahead to their grade school days with those names.

I'm a sucker for a steel guitar. I love this - totally unfamiliar with Ween.

Yeah, and what makes modern country music so bad is the incorporation of rock and roll - heavy on the electric guitar and bass, head-pounding percussion and dripping with enough gobs of schmaltz and bombasticity (to coin a phrase) to make Springsteen proud. Basically, it's country-rock.
I don't know about that. I think the term would be more Country Schlock.
I agree that this would never be played on "Country Radio". Nor would it ever be played on "Rock Radio".
That's why I like it.
I heard a "new" "country" "song" the other day. It had some "rap" in it.

Not to mention the chronic, constant melodrama of broken hearts, love blues, miscues, betrayal and unfaithfulness. C&W is a musical oasis for the lovelorn and those who don't mind corny cliches. And the tunes that are not about love's miseries are sandwiched by uncritical twangs to patriotism, jingoism and individualism. But c & w does regale us with the most entertaining song titles:

This song would never see the light of day on any country music radio station. I hate labels and categories more than anyone, but country radio stations play really bad music. Most radio stations play bad music though, so it's not so controverial for me to say country music is bad, as I often do (RP and similar web progams are not radio stations BTW, they are web-casts).

I guess it depends what sort of "country music" you're talking about. I don't consider those two guys you mentioned to be much more than Hollywood "pop" acts.

I think they're on purpose ;) Nonetheless, they made a solid album, completely out of their genre.

Impossible. Ween does not do genres. They just play music, you call it what you will.

Doesn't that describe country music in general? I'll take Ween's lyrics any day over Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, etc....

This song is ridiculous. I'll give it an eight.
This album is quite something. It was recorded with excellent country session musicians playing material that could've been written by 12-year-olds. Which of course makes it a personal favorite of mine.
Haha, so happy to be hearing more Ween on RP lately. Great album this.

If you can get past a couple of cheesy lyrics, the music is tight.
