I've managed to never have heard this in the 26 years since it's been out. Cool stuff. An easy 7 on first listen. Curious about the rest of their work.

Re. the photo… i am curious about what the hands we can't see are doing.
Such a shame that they are no longer. I want more.

I think I actually have this CD in my collection.  Ahhh, James Canfield and the Oregon Ballet Theater - I love it that they're still performing, but what happened to James Canfield?  I lost touch with most of the Portland area's fun stuff.  I do, however know about Dirty Martini, so maybe I'm not a totally hopeless case! {#Lol}

Giving this song a 7 for now - I'll need a couple more listens to be sure...

Drug Connect. Often overlooked member of the band.

I'm guessing it is the blond in the back of the picture.
Look at that photo.

Must have been fun being the roadie.

+1 to 9 for the extra chick in the wiki pic.
LLRP and 5 member quartets!
I just love the band name. The song's 8-worthy too. I'll keep an eye out for these wicked fishies. Thanks for another new (to me) band, Bill and Becky :o)

Yes, but with stronger singing. This is quite good.

Just occurred to me: it could be time to retire the descriptor "all-female band" (as we did with with aviatrix, poetess, and such).  Bands already have so many adjectives in their description.

OK, but could we keep dominatrix? I mean, just look at that wiki pic!
Nancy Hess is amazing. I worked with her years ago here in Portland. I still listen to her album. All good stuff!
I glanced at the title of this song and thought it read "Rubbery Slippers" .
I am hearing Natalie and Margo, of Maniacs + Junkies, respectively.
I'm giving it an 8 just for the band name.

Mazzy Star-like cover pic included, THIS IS SOME SERIOUS ART HERE. I love the languorous, Chris Isaak-style stylings in parts, too
Oh no its Mr Bill nice set

I doubt the members of this band (or most North Americans) ever heard anything by Shocking Blue other than "Venus".
SOLID   -   : )
Another RP gem....nice
For the sake of conversation, they were going to get a 10 based off of the band name alone. Listening failed to sway me away from that. Thanks for that introduction, BillG! {#Cheers}
No wiki article about this artist. Interesting.
I agree with earlier posts.
One of the first of many albums I had to hunt for because of RP.
Pretty good album overall.
Wish they were able to go on from this.
Always manage to find a way to incorporate this song into a mellow mix.
Nice, nice, and nice! {#Cheers}{#Sunny} Wow! 1998! Oh my! {#Cool}
very very cool imho  : )
Nice.  A bit Chris Isaakky too.  Would like to hear more of her.
I find myself humming a Brian Ferry tune when hearing this.  'Beauty should be deeper than your skin'  Don't stop the dance.
To me it's a clone of Demon Lover by Shocking Blue.
Some more please {#Bounce}
Sort of Cowboy Junkyish, which for me is a good thing.

This whole album is fabulous and should be listened to all the way through. Starts with a riff from Carmina Burana and then tells a whole story. It was written as the score for a ballet choreographed by James Canfield when he directed Oregon Ballet Theater. Music was performed live by Carmina P.  One of the most memorable shows I've ever seen in any Genre.  Buy the album.  No disappointments.

Where did this pearl come from? That's why I listen to RP.

{#High-five} Agreed!
ARRGGGHHHH! Shades of the Cowboy Junkies
Powerful song, wonderful femme fatale voice, fine film noir cover, and above all a great band name. 8 from the Nottingham jury.
Carmina Pirana are Carmina Luna
Where did this pearl come from? That's why I listen to RP. Yes definetly Tarantino's taste.
Quentin Tarantino probably loves this song.
Hmmm, reminds me of Simple Minds "Waterfront" or the Cure's "Fascination Street".
Hmmm, I'm thinkin' Simple Minds "Fascination Street".

Yeah it caught my ear as well
sounds like the song from "broken flowers", although I'm pretty sure it isn't?

Carmina Piranha = Carmina Burana
7, for the most excellent pun alone! They remind me a little of Jefferson Airplane.

You mean that American Idol snob? Why are so many hung up on those people? The song sounds fine the way it is, dammit.

My favourite version of Orff's Carmina Bourana song... (click here)
Mmmm... Great voice!

Nice riff.
This is one of my favorite albums of all time, though it's the first time I've heard it on radio station that didn't originate in Portland, OR. In fact, I'm not sure I ever heard the band on the radio stations in Portland. Fantastic surprise to hear it now.
Hey wah! These are my mates from Portland! Pretty obscure. That's what I love about this site. What an eclectic mix.
Greetings, Carmina Piranha = Carmina Burana I geddit. You have heard this music a dozen times, even if you don't know it by name: (click here) Neil
This is the first time I've heard this band--I'm digging them.

Am I the only one who can't believe this ISN"T Cowboy Junkies every time it comes on? Cool song, but dangerously similar to CJ sound.
Great stuff - is anybody else reminded of Goodnight Moon from the Kill Bill soundtrack?
They strongly suggest that you don't stop the dance.

I was thinking the same thing. This might be a sample moby used.
I like this song, haven't heard the rest of the album. Reminds me of the Pretenders.

Another similarity: Both bands have uber-cool names that deserve to be plastered across magazine covers around the world, even if the bands themselves don't quite live up to the genius of the names.
For those who dig this, Carmina Piranha has now sort of evolved to Carmina Luna. You can get more info here https://www.laramichell.com/luna/
I like this one more each time I hear it. Something almost hauntingly lovely about it...

No, you're not the only one. This one is more slick, it misses the rough edges. Like it.
Best band name I have heard in years!
Very stylish, nice stuff

Cool name.
I'm pushing up my rating from 7 to 8 on this one... definitely growing on me.
I absolutely love everything about this band. I first heard of them from a friend living in Portland OR where he saw them as some very small show. He bought their cd and its become one of my most listened to. Revenge Poems is unfortunately nearly all they've produced, they have a second album I eagerly awaited, but its only about 22 minutes. I think they broke up. I'd love to hear more, even though I've memorized them all, and see what other regular listeners think of this.
The metallic/tinny echo/reverb on the voice is annoying and pointless. Really detracts from a decent song.
Very nice!
