This music is simply wonderful!!
Alfred from Italy

Love Tuku
Think of the changes he saw in his too short life:
Born in Highfield, Rhodesia
Died in Harare, Zimbabwe
The very same place under new management.

What an eminently stupid thing to write. I've seen this man in concert this past fall (great show) He's from Zimbabwe, is very famous there, has put out dozens of albums in Africa (only a few have been released in the US). He speaks out against oppression in his country, and won't be silenced, even tho' it is dangerous to voice the troubles of his people. Check out his album, put out by Putamayo, called Tuku Music (his nickname is Tuku).

You could also try this Tiny Desk performance. The whole thing is worth watching, but I especially like the final song, Haidyoreke, where they really get into the groove and are clearly having a whale of a time.

the guitar work kind of sounds like quicksilver messenger

This song perfectly fits with the windows 10 "Calendar Reminder" sound!

Same if you're a Yes fan, right?

More of other parts of the world please please please. Portugal, Colombia,  Brazil,  China, Mongolia, the Andes, central America, Arabia and more, all have so much interesting music. Sadly the selection of so much central African music, as good as it may be crowds out this channel

Not dissing the artists, but the keyboard should be taken out and burned.

+5 points for the percussion, and -5 points for the Velveeta filled Casio keyboard.

Yeah, every Oliver Mtukudzi song I've ever heard seems like it might be tolerable if he put duct tape over the background singers' mouths.

Sounds like the African version of Yanni to me. Yawn.
hmmm... looking over some of these comments makes me imagine "Past Conversations That Must Have Been"... (1964, translated from the French) ...I guess the music is ok, but why can't these 'Beatles' sing in French, like us civilized folks.. (1780's, translated from Italian) ... why must this Mozart insist on writing in that awful, barbaric language of his? His compositions in our language were so lovely, and everyone knows that Italian is the only proper language for opera...
Man, it sure is great to hear how other fellow humans make music! VERY fine! Love the bass work.

Way too many Steve(n)s in this thread... Probably my favorite Mtukudzi song. Little tired of it, as one of my former co-workers had this CD on non-stop though.

Perfect song for a sunny spring day with the wind blowing in through the curtains. Of course, it would also be great in January. Lovely.
Kind of gay. But nice and rambly. At least there aren't any horns.

I am exactly the same way DoofusGeezer. I don't need to understand the lyrics to still enjoy the music. And music is a universal language. You can tell from the notes if the music is sad or joyful or full of suspense. That is why music is almost always used in movies - to bring across different moods or emotions to the viewer.

Look at the map of people who listen to this station. They aren't all Americans!!! Maybe if more folks spend time listening to music from other countries, they wouldn't be so hateful about what they don't understand.

His voice really sounds to me like the guy who sings on the Deep Forest "Bohemian" (or whatever, the 2nd album). Is it him?

Most people in the rest of the world learn english through listening to american music, you go to another country and hear people trying out american lyrics, its nice, and wouldnt be so bad for us to try it with other languages as well just a thought
love this guy.
Shana is not available on iTunes.
Wasn't he a member of Wasis Diop? He and the music sound very similar.

I've probably said this before elsewhere, but this does actually grow on ya. I used to refer to it as SUBTITLE MUSIC. About a 4. Now a 6. Who knows? Nicely done. No C-L-U-E what he is saying but ...well done (musically). As you were.

Do we really need this type of personal attack, when all we are dealing with here is a matter of personal musical preferences? Nobody is forcing you to agree with them.
I was surprised to hear this on RP. RP never ceases to surprise. Thanks Bill.
I really like the tune, but I am having trouble with the high female voices that come in every once in a while... They sounds so very off-key.... maybe it's jsut me.

Sounds like Cape Town to me. Hats off to Abdullah Ibrahim & Basil "Mannenburg" Coetzee though the language I don't recognize as being from that neck of the woods. Interesting....

I want to puke. The vocals are good and the rest should die. Oh god, I have to change stations. The chorus sucks too. I hate this song. A lot.
A little too western & not enough African in this cut...too new agey for REALLY African, World Beat...still & all, pleasant enough...just don't be fooled into thinking this is REAL African stuff...
This one is a bit more western/pop sounding than songs on my OM CDs, but I still like that west African groove, man!
Man - great song! I love the sub-bass stuff that's in there!
hey r&b: i'm LOVIN' all this cool african stuff you are adding to the mix! :propeller.gif:

Pretty bad IMO. I like "world" music, but this stinks. If I were really stoned, I might get a kick out of this song.
Variety is the spice of life ! A little world beat is refreshing, this station is not actually, even remotely eclectic. More like this in the mix would be exceedingly welcome. Hearing this for the first time makes me want to put it on my wishlist of new CD's.
This song makes me want to change the station....
Boring.
That one made me feel, well, exceedingly gooooooooood.
Yeah, well, I think it's deeply moving .
