Sometimes I'm right and I can be wrong
My own beliefs are in my song
The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
Makes no difference what group I'm in
I am everyday people, yeah, yeah

There is a blue one
Who can't accept the green one
For living with a fat one
Trying to be a skinny one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together

I am no better and neither are you
We are the same, whatever we do
You love me, you hate me, you know me and then
You can't figure out the bag I'm in
I am everyday people, yeah yeah

There is a long hair
That doesn't like the short hair
For being such a rich one
That will not help the poor one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
We got to live together

There is a yellow one
That won't accept the black one
That won't accept the red one
That won't accept the white one
Different strokes
For different folks

And so on and so on
And scooby dooby dooby
Oh sha sha
I am everyday people

Exactly what we need today
Got sick of it in the 60's. Still one that I skip.

Doesn't ruin it for me but is annoying. The current stupid coffee commercial using 25 or 6 to 4 is this years example.
Perfect to groove into the weekend on a Friday arvo

I  Agree!!
Just a fine fine set of music happening on this Friday - the message here aptly captured!

Liberal doesn't come to my mind. My prescription for you is to watch  "Summer Of Soul".
Doesn’t get any better than this.

Is that Derek Rodman?

Y'all wanna see a great Sly set? Check out Summer of Soul. Streaming on Hulu.

My very first show ever! I was maybe 11 or 12, Sly came out very his very funky big blue hat!
When I was a kid, you couldn't get cooler than Sly Stone. He was the man. I was a white kid raised in a black neighborhood in the city. I wouldn't trade it for the world, I felt nothing but love.
Now this must have been one heck of a show!

Gotta love that stage name "Sly Stone"
A 60s classic in a tight 2:20...

What about William Shatner's song about "ordinary people?"

Amazingly, the bass player seems to just be playing one note throughout the entire song.  And yet . . .

How does he do that?

It takes a lot of discipline.  Incidentally, that's Larry Graham - one of the most talented and innovative electric bass players ever - playing on this tune.

Yeah. And? Is this an observation, or a reproach? Either way, somehow, "I love elite people" or "I shoot everyday people" doesn't quite have the same appeal.
DUDE!!  Give me a little warning before you light off the afterburners on this WayBack machine!
Great song, way back when made a tape mix and segued this into Kraftwerk's Computer World, give that a try Bill!
What a gem!!!
Great song.  My only complaint is that it ends too soon.

More Sly!
I went to go see them back in '68 in Chicago at the Grant Park band shell along with Muddy Waters  but after Muddy Waters played they never showed up and a riot ensued. Muddy Waters was good anyways...
ooooooohhh sha sha

This song is fantastic, and too short.  Gets me moving every time.

On an old '80 cassette tape I made I segued this grand song into Kraftwerk's Computer World and that's all I can think of; Bill new segue can you cue up for me?
the quintessential message of the 60's. makes me think of the rascals and the youngbloods. a 10 everyday in my book.
Kinda makes you want to buy a Chevy, huh.
Ok to hear here once in awhile. It drove me nuckin' FUTS back in the day when it was overplayed to DEATH on the radio.

Great song. Guess you had to be there. By there I mean the smoke-in at U of MD in 1971.

Propably. To me, this is one of the bands I hear critics raving about, so I put it on my "to discover" list only to find out I don't get what they're getting. Different folks for different strokes. Enjoy.

Thanks Bill! Great song, great message. If you had heard it when it was first released in the late 60's, which I did, I suppose it would have a different impact on you than hearing it now. Everyone has feelings attached to music in relation to what is happening at the time they first heard it.

Love the lyrics (with the exception of the the whole scoobie doobie carziness) but I can't really stomach the song.
Love it!

This is not a bad song. But almost an 8 as rating average ?? That type of song would be proposed today and we'd think : " What a silly song "...
We got to live together!
I know I'm supposed to like it. I just don't.
I can't help but imitate that little thing the dude does at the end of "we got to live togethuoouUUHH"

Agreed, very 'period'. Please do not play too often. This group put on one of the worst concerts I have ever attended.
