Slide a rind down behind a sofa in San Tropez
Breaking a stick with a brick on the sand
Riding a wave in the wake of an old sedan
Sleeping alone in the drone of the darkness
Scratched by the sand that fell from my love
Deep in my dreams and I still hear her calling
If you're alone, I'll come ho-ho-home
Backward and homebound, the pigeon, the dove
Gone with the wind and the rain on an airplane
Born in a home with no silver spoon
I'm drinking champagne like a good tycoon
Sooner than wait for a break in the weather
I'll gather my far-flung thoughts together
Speeding away on a wind to a new day
If you're alone, I'll come ho-ho-home
And I'll pause for a while by a country with style
And listen to the things they say
Digging for gold in a hole in my hand
Open the book, take a look at the way things stand
And you're leading me down to the place by the sea
I hear your soft voice calling to me
Making a date for later by phone
And if you're alone, I'll come ho-ho-home
Nicely put!
BTW, really good stoner music sounds even better when you are razor-sharp straight. Just sayin'. The pros record and perform straight.
Trying too hard to be...

One of my favorite memories. So many times I felt like Charlie B but that was such a moment where it clicked.
"I was going to say a duckie and a horsie but I changed my mind..."
You got that right! Opening with the slightly scary "One of These Days" before "A Pillow of Wind" and then (one of my top 5 PF tracks) into "Fearless" before this jaunty number and then the dog "Seamus" keeping tune with a nearby train, before the seemingly made for Halloween final track "Echoes" clocking in at 23:23 - pretty effing awesome album FOR SURE!! PEACE and Long Live RP!!
schmillson-esque
You might be getting Tull and Floyd confused?
If all you know about them is what has been played on commercial radio you are not getting the whole picture.
Both bands have really strong and surprisingly diverse back catalogs that are well worth exploring.
Awesome!
Completely unfamiliar to me and I kinda really like Pink Floyd! I would never guess!
Just thought this song needed more bananas tonight.
By the way, the correct lyrics:...Slide a RIND down behind/ the sofa in St. Tropez/...And I'll pause for awhile/ by a country with STYLE/
indeed. And I don't think it is because your ears are crusty.
Awesome!
And the importance of Rick Wright to this group's sound should not be underestimated!
Yes & yes.

His jazz style always was a key element in the package.

OK, that made me LOL.
Good description of how it sets the mood. It's sometimes hard to fully appreciate a well crafted but understated song.

It sounds more like they are playing in a lounge at a Holiday Inn. Still like it, even better in the context of the whole album.

I disagree completely. I like the Barrett compositions but, when I listen to them, it's obvious that they're over 40 years old. This one is timeless. There's nothing on this album that isn't at least outstanding. "One of These Days" hovers at (and just barely achieves) Godlike. None of the Barrett portfolio makes it to that height in 2011, though it was amazing and innovative in its time.
We all have our own opinions, obviously. I don't find this album "timeless" at all - it sounds exactly like the early 1970's - but that's not something negative. "Timeless" is a word which is almost as grossly overused (and thereby, as meaningless) as "genius". Why "none of the Barrett portfolio" reaches your distinction of "Godlike" doesn't seem like it should have anything to do with what year it was recorded or what year it presently is.
This is a bad thing how?
Syd ? No way José.

Agreed that the context makes this composition even better.
this one tries in vain to sound like it was created by Syd Barrett, but unfortunately it isn´t, and this becomes clear from the very first second.
not very impressive, Mr. Waters :-((

Everyone is entitled the their own opinion ... personally I find PF to be very creative, very constructive, and I would strongly disagree with these (your) ratings of BD who aside from his song writing skills has ZERO talent for performing
10 - Bob Dylan - Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again
10 - Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited
10 - Bob Dylan - Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
10 - Bob Dylan - You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go
10 - Bob Dylan - Things Have Changed
10 - Bob Dylan - Desolation Row
10 - Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues
Trash the Floyd hater but don't go hating on Bob Dylan in the process.
"Gather my far flung thoughts together"
That's heartbreaking!
one of the days i'm going to cut you into little pieces
(used to play this album for people sequestered for initiation lol )
Gooood Schtuff!!!
Agreed... works for background music... This came out the year I was born.

Yep just like Pink Floyd, a bunch of 3 cord know-nothings; nothing more than a bunch of no count lazy basturds incapable of anything creative or constructive.
LOL, well, on this song, I might have to agree with you. I don't get it at all. But otherwise, they are the gold standard in rock music.

Well, I could BEFORE!
...But now that you've planted that image in my mind...well, probably NEVER AGAIN!
Now the damn thing sounds all different (like after I saw the "video" for the Beatles' Your Mother Should Know!).
Thanks. Thanks a lot!
Yummm...Captain Crunch.
Yes, you are right. But i love to hear this old Floyd Sound. You cannot hear very often this in our home country. So i thank RP for this.
I've never quite understood the idea that one has to be stoned to enjoy Pink Floyd...
Well said, and me, too!
So says thenotsowiseking
Seconded. This song is awesome. I think the next song on the album is the same way.
"It's OK, Charlie Brown."
yes... now that i think about it its very vince guaraldi's style... and the original one is a worth follow up!
