Carbon-made found her at the end of a chain
"Time to race," she said. "Race the downhill."
Behind crystalline irises loons can dive
Where the world bleeds white
Just keep your eyes on her
Keep, don't look away
Keep your eyes on
Her horizon
Bear Claw, Free Fall, A Gunner's View
Black and blue shred in ribbons of lithium
Blow by blow her mind cut in sheets
Layers deep now unravelling
Just keep your eyes on her
Keep, don't look away
Keep your eyes on
Her horizon
Get me Neil on the line
No, I can't hold
Have him read ''"Snow Glass Apples"''
Where nothing is what it seems
"Little Sis, you must crack this."
He says to me
"You must go in again
Carbon-made only wants to be unmade."
Blade to ice, it's double diamond time
And keep your eyes on her
Keep, don't look away
Keep your eyes on her horizon
On her eyes
On her horizon
"Time to race," she said. "Race the downhill."
Behind crystalline irises loons can dive
Where the world bleeds white
Just keep your eyes on her

I'm also a fan. She's a tremendous artist - a very good pianist, writes interesting lyrics, a quirky and individual singer with a great sense of humour.
What a surprise I was in for when I started reading the boards for this song. Everyone seems to have different reasons for disliking Tori -- "Hate her all the time," "Usually like her, but this song is...," "Tried to like her but can't pull it off," "Think she's a shameless weirdo," ad nauseum.
I guess I've thought of myself as eclectic for a while, and part of the reason was because I loved Tori Amos so much, and no one else seemed to. I just couldn't find any Tori fans, and I still can't, and yet she pops up from time to time with ratings of greater than 6. So what conclusion can I draw other than that Tori fans love her, can't explain why and keep to themselves?
I LOVE this song, truly love it. No effort is required to toss out a good comment for The Beatles or to have a strong opinion one way or the other on Radiohead, but am I really the only articulate Tori fan out there? You'd expect just the opposite, considering how expressive Tori is with her own words, for better or for worse. In any case, Tori did not grow on me, but rather planted the seed early with "Little Earthquakes" and never left my heart. I think she's just effing great.

I do like Tori Amos... but geez louise, RP plays a LOT of her. Some might say too much.

An eye/ear on Ms Bush perhaps? Still highly listenable, by definition........

Scarlet's Walk does have excellent qualities, vast in scope, quite a grand musical vision from Tori to be sure. But I've always been partial to the mostly stripped down and somewhat thematically purer 'Under the Pink'. I know the old timers who were suckled on Little Earthquakes aren't always the hugest fans of Under the Pink's studio-string additions, but so many tracks are hauntingly beautiful.
I'm also a big fan of the quirky pleasures of 'Boys for Pele', where she really was stretching out and showing off the oddities of her musical talent. Yet Scarlet's Walk was a refreshing comebacker from the slate of so-so albums after Pele.

I'm trying to figure out if a Cornflake Girl is a good thing.

I really like her music as well though I don't know what she's singing about 90% of the time
My wife is the same way. I really think she'd enjoy her music if she could just understand her.
I like Tori, myself. I was introduced to her by my second wife. She was an uber-fan of Tori's.
Great track. Amazing album. Personally only ever play her stuff on a Saturday afternoon, but thats all to do with growing up in rural Bedfordshire and listening to Radio 1...well, its a long story. Genius!!
I'm trying to figure out if a Cornflake Girl is a good thing.

Me too!!! I comment on almost all of her songs here because I love her and get sick of all the negativity about her music....I think alot of people see her as a stereotype (crying/depressed chick singer) and just crack on that rather than listening to the music or knowing anything about her.
This song in particular is wonderful because: 1. it is beautiful 2. She refers to Neil and one of my favorite all time Neil stories....Snow Glass Apples.... I HIGHLY recommend anyone who enjoys grown up faerie tales or twisted tales to check it out. I think it is in the collection Smoke and Mirrors.... You will NOT regret buying this book or checking it out at the library!!!!!
Trustocity - I'm a Tori fan... and proud of it!!

Well said !!!
A Great transition from the Debussy! Even though this is the album that caused me to give up on Tori (she reached her pinnacle with Pele... maybe Choirgirl Hotel), I'm reconsidering it, hearing this track up against the Debussy like that. Neat!
Great seque from the Debussy piano piece.
One of Tori's better songs, IMHO.

I've tried really hard to like Tori's other albums and failed, but "Scarlet's Walk" is splendid, full of melody, intelligent lyrics and flowing performances. All you sceptics out there should give the album a try - "A Sorta Fairytale" is great, and "I Can't See New York" is the best 9/11 reflection I know.
this is so encouraging! I love how you didn't give up on her. :D

Nicely said! I used to be a Tori-hater, but have changed my mind due mostly to this album.
One of only two songs of Tori's that I kinda like.

wow...I couldn't disagree with you more. This album was overflowing with good writing. The sound was a little on the low end side, but it kept me busy for quite a while with all the good songs on it.

If no one plays this song anymore for, like, a really long time, maybe it will turn into oil, which we can use to produce the energy to keep this station going, and play some other song.
Not playing this song is protecting our future!!
:-s
Heh. Okay, that didn't so much work out...
Her live performance of this song in Grand Rapids was very moving. I only wish I could of uploaded that version.
Hip Hip Hurray! Tori Amos on RP? I could kiss you. Who? I don't know......someone, anyone.........I'm a kid in a candy store! \:D/ :daisy.gif: :sunny.gif:
This from a person who rated Los Lobos - Kiko and the Lavender Moon a 1!! :?:
Which would you prefer to do, saw off a limb or be Tori Amos's therapist for a year?
Great song from a great album. I find myself playing this one a lot. Nice addition to RP
meh. typical.
I think this is my favourite off of that album. I wasn't a huge Tori Amos fan when she was first putting out albums, but man, she has definitely convinced me.
This is very good and a pretty big change from Little earth quakes.. which is stil my fav CD.
But this is very mature and ethric.. very nice.
Voxx
Very very good.
And it goes somthing like:
\"That\'s beutiful\"
\"yeah layers of harmony falling down one on top of the other\"
\"What\'s it called?\"
\"Lick my love pump\"
I'm liking this new, more poppy phase of Tori's music. I stuck with her through the unpleasant, totally bizarre world of Boys for Pele, but all the Scarlett's Walk tunes that have been played on RP are really.... nice.
Great song! Great album!
This song (and whole CD, actually) has such a lush feeling.. kind of mysterious and beautiful, which is major turn around for me, considering I have not been much of a Tori fan in the past. :)
tori is an interesting and very talented gal
"From the time she could reach the piano, she taught herself to play: when she was two, she could reproduce pieces of music she had only heard once,[16] and, by the age of three, she was composing her own songs."
