I can settle down and be doin' just fine
Til' I hear an old train rollin' down the line
Then I hurry straight home and pack
And if I didn't go, I believe I'd blow my stack

I love you baby
But you gotta understand
When the Lord made me
He made a ramblin' man

Some folks might say, that I'm no good
That I wouldn't settle, down if I could
But when that open road, starts to callin' me
There's somethin' o'er the hill, that I gotta see

Sometimes it's hard, but you gotta understand
When the Lord made me, He made a ramblin' man

I love to see the towns, a-passin' by
And to ride these rails, 'neath God's blue sky
Let me travel this land, from the mountains to the sea
'Cause that's the life I believe, He meant for me

And when I'm gone, and at my grave you stand
Just say God called home your ramblin' man

I think I would have to be very drunk to listen to much more of this
This song would be a great addition to the fallout game series!
Hank was in his 20s when he wrote this, sang as if in his 50s, gone before 30.
RIP Hank, you're in no pain now.

9 from me.
When I'm drinking whiskey alone at home, I listen to Hank
Tom Waits' "Long Way Home" should follow this song on the lineup.

HATE? Like how you might feel about Hitler, or Jeffery Epstein? I know, I know, still evoking that terrible word for 'dislike' doesn't do anything good for anyone.
LLRP!!
Very masculine sentiments.

I bet this song sounds even better with the scratch and pops of an old 78 running through it.

maybe not better, but more authentic.  Add some warble and the slowing down because you didn't crank enough.
Truest of the true country music
I'm not a country-western fan, but Hank is he king of country western.  Was just at the Grand Ol' Opry so I think it's cool that the image from Wikipedia has a WSM microphone from the Opry.
Someone should go to his grave in Montgomery, Alabama and post "God called home your ramblin' man" in here.
Please play more tunes by him!  Thank You!
I learned a lot about him on The PBS documentary by Ken Burns! He had a rough but brief life.  But, he did make a lot of great music!  May he rest in peace!
GREAT!! ICONIC!!
Would love to hear the Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan version as well!!! Interesting version of a great song.

Who is going to be remembered longer....Hank Williams or the rest of us?
That constant octave switching is unbearable. Next.
Is it me or does Hank sound like a feral cat in the process of giving up the ghost?

A 7 from me, not because I like it, but because I love the Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan version! Check it out.

Not for me . No hate, no whine, just movin' on to the next song.

Heart wrenching is right...in the best way.

I don't think so, He's son got none of his talent.

But HIS son does. Hank III is great, he has that 'high lonesome' voice.

I cannot abide Hank Williams.

…for a traditional »American thing« country song a solid 7 doesn't seem to be such a bad rating at a first glance. Not to mention that RP gets more and more international (cheers from Hamburg / Germany)

However - if I don't like a music genre as a whole - let's say C&W - I simply don't vote for those songs, at least to not offend the respective enthusiasts and artists… it's so easy.

 Long live RP!

Are you ready for some football!?!
Thanks for this :-) Spoooky for me. In a nice way. Almost ghostlike voice. Nice variation on the theme of 'I'm a wanderer, you shall not change me!'

Listening to this again, I still like it very much, but the album art + the voice makes me think, "There's a snake in my boot!" Sorry...
who rated this  1, 2, or 3???
are you fucking a jerk-off or what?

My girlfriend loves top 40 "Country" music.  I should play this for her.  It's so dark and mournful.  She'd freak.

{#Devil_pimp}zesty! now if we were really on our game could do hank jr and follow with hank III now that would be very zesty indeed !

Ethnic?  Please explain.
Not a big country fan, but gotta respect a legend.
Oh Bill, how could you know to play this just now?
My father, who loved Hank Williams, was called home 5 years ago today.
How many times he sang this and I'd roll my eyes
Hearing this again brought me to a standstill as I thought of my rambling man, Dad
Wow. And I hate country. Second best today.
 linzbrock wrote:

Agreed.  That said, its far from my favorite HW tune.
It's not THAT bad, but it's currently the only song that makes me switch from RP to a different station {#Stop}
Good stuff! Hank laid ground that Roy Orbison and Elvis loved to explore. Chris Isaak and Neko Case go there, too, as did Donovan and Dylan in early days...

This track has some comedic gold in the comments.  From a quick looksee, here's my favorite line.  I'm anticipating some BillG comments about the comments coming soon.

As for the song, I rate a 7 - I'm not into modern C&W - the older stuff isn't bad, and come on now, 1952...that's some early shit there.  Give him his props for doing something different than others were doing...he was a pioneer for sure.

Long Live RP!

No doubt classic rock lounge is better suited to your tastes. Crank up the Foreigner!

In the early 1980s, I was lucky to get a job slashing seismic exploration lines in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.  I recall that Foreigner was very popular in camp.  Somebody would blast it out so you could hear it everywhere.
Hank is one of the all-time greats - very simple, effective songs.

This song is precisely the reason I am grateful for the new PSD feature.

This is classic.  A strong 8 and a hankering for more.

Ha ha ha!  He may be great in some circles but I'm with you, I'm not hear to listen to this old stuff that I was forced to listen to on a.m. radio in the 60's before FM made it's way to my little mountain community in Colorado.  Let's get back to the fantastic alternative and indie music, please!!
This is a classic. It's got it all. You can't beat Hank.

A great transition from the last song, the reason I listen to RP. We all come here to hear great music. Jesus, I love Hank Williams.

Yes! This is country's version of the blues. One of my favorite Hank tunes is "Honky Tonkin' " which Ron Howard used well in "Apollo 13."
Modern day ramblin man… {#Motor}

Now that's old time. Thanks, Hank and RP.
I'm also partial to Hank III's cover with the Melvins. Hank III's voice is so close to Hanks it's spooky.

Americana, Roots music, collides with the blues..lovin this track

Nice:)
Crazy, 1952. I wasn't even born then.

I love Hank because I can actually hear the miles in his voice. The music is so pure and his lyrics reference and America that is both real and the stuff of legend.

Classic.

Great pick.... I just love Hank Williams... Haunting, soulful, and sad.....

I gotta start listening to RP at night...:( Just can't take this country folksy stuff that plays during the day.

Wow-! Good set. Good segue... Really has it been -59- years since this was first released...?

What is wrong with you people? This is a 10 if I ever heard one....damn shame..sorry Hank. They know not what they do...
