As always, Live seems to be dividing the waters.... People either love them or hate them! .-)
I want my $5 back!
I can't believe so many hate this...Live at this point was a bunch of teenagers with amazing talent and depth. How many kids think about anything besides getting the right girl/guy/clothes/car...give them some credit.

I feel like Live is trying to convert me. And now that Creed is no more, I guess I'll have to suffer through more of this.
I love this song and this CD. In 1992 I was able to see them live in LA at the Roxy (a small club that holds like 400) along with a one-album group called The Spent Poets and they put on a great show. This was before anyone had heard of them. I also saw them give a free show at UCLA in 1994. I had a chance to see them again last month but wasn't able to. If you ever get a chance to see them live you should.

crap.. why does everyone sound like a pearl jam/nirvana wanna be (or a least some diluted version)
Because apparently that's all you have to compare it to. This album was released - as I recall - only months after Nirvana's debut and Pearl Jam's "Ten" so the opinion that they sound similar may be because the genre (alternative, grunge, whatever you want to call it) was being defined at the same time. Honestly, Im not sure Id put them in the same vein though... "Ten" and "Mental Jewelry" are very different albums IMO... and Nirvana? I would even go so far as to say Live is a more talented band than Nirvana was, though certainly less influential. This is a very simple, jam-style song to kick off a great album.

Worst. Song. Ever.
Oh, I've got some songs you absolutely need to listen to if you think THIS is the worst. Seriously.
This song is awesome and this album is one that can be listened to without skipping a track... We caught these guys at a recent show and they still sound good...

Worst. Song. Ever.
Pain lies in this sh!tty song.

This is just so bad all round..and nothing like Simply Red - who I hate as well..- so what was the point in your statement, Rule'..? Shocking....absolute crap.....
Oh, I thought the US had been spared Simply Red. Not to dump on the guy - he's supposed to be a very nice person - but the only thing worse than Simply Red is when Simply Red tries to sound like a rocker. This sounds like Simply Red when he's tries to rock. Ouch.
Has anyone in the US heard of Simply Red....? Consider yourselves blessed. Perhaps it's just the similarity that turns me off.....
Live rocked then and they rock now. Birds of Pray is excellent BTW, as was the Distance to Here.....V, well, I like a lot of V, it was different, some songs did fail. Simple Creed, Deep Enough, Like A Soldier, Overcome, Flow are all excellent. The rest is okay.

Live was actually really good before they became self-righteous, pseudo-spiritual egomaniacs. Too bad what too much attention can do to a talented band.
yeah, the new stuff is all terrible, no one should buy it, and hopefully they will be relegated to playing small, initmate clubs at reasonable ticket prices-- preferably in the NY metro area. I'll admit that V was pretty forgettable (except for "flow") but birds of prey is really good if skip track one, and I'm not ready to give up on these guys yet.

agreed. I saw them on the Throwing Copper tour - great stuff. but preachy is preachy.

i rather enjoyed this one. it made me smile a whole lot. a lot of live does for some reason. i'm not entirely sure why, as they're not exactly revolutionary or anything special like that. guilty pleasure i guess.
Don't feel guilty! Live is just a great old-fashioned rock band :-)
Oh, the bass player rocks :)
I really love this album...to those that don't like this song, it's not my fav off the album...give the rest a chance...

my MJ only had one side, and the whole thing was great. i think it was probably in the top 10 albums of the 90s. and seeing them "live" at the end of their summer 1992 tour was a blast. their newer stuff is ok, but i thought it was too bad the bass player forgot how to play.....and the vocals lost some of their edge....and so forth....
Melodramatic. Mucho.
More self-important sh*t from Edward "Don't call me Ed" Kowalchuk.

Back when music had 2 sides, side 1 of MJ was as good as it got. I'm not a huge fan of live, but this was one hell of an album.
I'm sorry, this just doesn't do it for me. Too much Sturn und Drang about nothin' for me. To each their own.....
I still have a soft spot for these guys. I particularly like the drums and bass on this tune.
love the energy in this one. nice passion in the voice and the rhythm guitar. really makes my head bounce.
Doesn't do a hell of a lot for me personally, but it istight, and I see there are other folks who really get off on it, so...... I'll just catagorize it as some more of that world famous RP diversity and wait to see what's up next.
The lyrics are wonderful, the rythm section knocks me out, guitar is right on, the singing is terrific.

The music was not at all generic in 1992. If it sounds generic today, it is because Live has had a great deal of influence on today's rock music.
I\'m glad to see for the first time that Radio Paradise plays a Live\'s song ! Makes me happy. I hope I can hear more of this great forgoten band.
I agree. 10 in my book. An oldtime fave. Mental Jewelry brings back great memories. Such a wonderful, intense album. Doesn\'t get enough attention. Radio should start playing this album again, get Live back in the mainstream for their 6th album due out in MAY. Saw them a few months back, they still ROCK!!! Much better than any rock currently on the radio. They have become mainstream too, but always a step above I think. Much better than that Creed crap.
Proof that Live\'s rhythm section doesn\'t get nearly the respect it deserves.
Their best cd, and an amzing song. They still write great songs, but none with the power of Mental Jewlery.
