I use the lock that has no key, bind you with chains
But no one else can see
Let the water creep over your face, I'll send it in waves
Just to watch you perform the great escape
How long can you hold your breath?
While you hold mine, I cannot wait
Just to watch you perform the great escape
I'll pull your arms tight behind your back, kiss my selfless blade
And wonder while you fade
How long can you hold your breath?
While you hold mine, I cannot wait
Just to watch you perform the great escape
But no one else can see
Let the water creep over your face, I'll send it in waves
Just to watch you perform the great escape
How long can you hold your breath?
While you hold mine, I cannot wait
Just to watch you perform the great escape
I'll pull your arms tight behind your back, kiss my selfless blade
And wonder while you fade
How long can you hold your breath?
While you hold mine, I cannot wait
Just to watch you perform the great escape

There are so many great ocean and water songs that could be played together with this, but the strongest vibe I'm feelin right now after The Great Escape is the uncertain and insecure Out to Sea by Aarktica. (If you hunt that one down, be careful of Ocean on the same album ... boy does that one hit different.)
Man, Moby can really hit those high notes.
So it is possible for someone to whisper into a microphone without the voice (what there is of it) being overwhelmed by the breathing. I'd rather they sang, though.

I, like the 'some others' consider 'oxymoron' to be the correct word.Cujo moon - Jeff Buckley and now the great escape... an ethereal/spiritual/meditative atmosphere in the last few tracks... well done and very much needed. Difficult times we´re living in.
Or U2 ...Mothers of the Disappeared from Joshua Tree

I too think it borrows heavily from a U2 track, perhaps that very one.
Good ear coccyx
I do not think the previous responders to your cute literary reference understood you. Perhaps a bit obvious, but I grinned.
OK, I have to say this....
Moby, what a dick.

OMG,
Bloated Moby strikes again:
"I'll pull your arms tight behind your back, kiss my selfless blade
And wonder while you fade".
WTF does that mean?

OMG I hate hearing spittle.
THE best Moby song ever! The only good one!
Now that sounds just like my Roland midi processor cellos.
A solid 2. JAYsus….what passes for talent these days. Moby's an artist for sure, but there's a reason some things need to remain on the cutting room floor....
Yikes, that was a painful listen.
The dreary, amateurish effort of this track annoyed me so much I opened a browser, logged in and voted! This came out on an album released at the peak of his popularity, and he couldn't even be bothered to hire session musicians for it?!
A sucko barfo guide track rescued by an excellent vocal. This should be 15% faster performed by a real string quartet not just phoned in by Mr. Hall. Hell, the a cappella would have been better.
At least the following track was great!

OK, you've played it 3 times in the last week.. and I'll PSD it once again (after I rate it a 1) ... boring, slow, uninspiring!

It is likely not the case for you, but there seems to be a collective delusion among many people who post in the comments here at RP that every song ever written is somehow "borrowed" from Pink Floyd.
Every time I hear this song, there is something in my memory bank telling me this is a Pink Floyd song...............or maybe Roger Waters solo........... Not sure why.................

Every time I hear this song I think of Creepshow the Movie
better than the average MOBY

Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor from Azure Ray, also RP artists. They have toured with Moby.

Moby's music is a pure talent reverberation
Please make your Great Escape somewhere else Moby.
mercifully rescued by thenewno2. Thanks, Mr G.
Musical creativity sounds here to be proportional to hair quantity.
The more psycho the better ---- music should push your buttons. This ones the bomb
that strings. :D
That's a first for me. Quite interesting. Perform the great escape. Ambiguous but clear enough.
Creepy.
This album was released in 2002, not 1994 as it says in the info above.
The melody sounds like a video game.
I think this song is about jealousy, specifically about how a jealous person will smother anyone they're in a relationship with.
I liked it
What a creepy little tune.

Moby has some really great stuff but this is not one of my favorites. I'm indifferent about it.
The is a great song, one of Moby's best. 10.
...this song would sound much stronger with real strings...
With each spin into rotation, Moby seems to spiral farther from relevance..

Thar she blows!! Moby, I mean. God, I hate this.
Real set killer there.
it's a beautiful one, haven't heard it in forever.
Bucket of slop!
Moby will always hold that place in musical time where everyone else tries to match up.
is there really no way to give a negative rating?
I actually am quite in love with this song, from the first time I've heard it, to know, almost a year later.

Sometimes Moby has it...
Sometimes he doesn't...
...and then there's this song.
Not to sound uncharitable, but perhaps the worst song I've heard played on RP. Hopefully just a weather induced anomaly.
When I play this CD at home, I skip right over this song. Sometimes I wish RP as a skip feature.........
I'm performing my great escape on this one...

Oooh, you're right about the strings. There's no substitute for the real thing.
Please use real strings the next time Moby ;-)

Sadly one of the very few decent tracks on this album. Only saving grace is Sinead's vocals.
Eerie to say the least.
"I'm an artist. You can tell, because I have a great record collection. I snip my favorite pieces from my records, & piece them together over a beat. I played them to intoxicated people in clubs. They decided I was a musical genius.
"Wait. Maybe they said my shoes were a musical genius. I really can't remember."
this is terrible. he could at the very least have sprung for an actual string quartet instead of that horrible synthesized attempt. yuck.
He stole this style from This Mortal Coil.
This song, ah hell .......
I'd say that I hate this tune, but its plodding dullness has rendered me completely unable to muster any strong feelings with regard to it at all...
That Moby sure has a high voice.
I just got up and am drinking coffee to wake up so that I can do some work, and this song is boring the shit out me!!
BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!! BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!!
This song makes me have a love hate relationship with Moby

Very pretty - the synth strings kind of grate on me a bit - real strings would have been better, but otherwise very nice.

I was really dissapointed with this entire album. It was months after 9/11, and I'd grieved enough.
Well, it does take awhile to compose, produce and distribute an album, y'know ...
Also, just a shot in the dark here, but if Moby is anything like me (we both have a 9/11 birthday), the grief took on an extra, personal shade. Having your birthday turned into a national day of mourning is kinda like losing a little bit of your identity.
Hope that as the years wear on, you're able to listen to this with a different set of ears (but still your own!)
Is it just me or does the vocalist in this song sound just like the female singer from the Magnetic Fields? Anyone know if it's the same girl?
Moby made a great escape when Eminem was wanting to fight him. Personally, I think Moby could have taken him one on one, but Eminem has his huge posse. WORD!!!

Just my opinion.
Oh yeah, "months." Months is such a long time to get over a travesty like 9/11. /sarcasm
i like this song

Pretty emotional for someone named apathy. ;)
I think this is quite lovely. I really like the eerie harmony and the way it plays off the dual vocals. Nice.
Spooky.
I would say this sounds like an identical copy of many This Mortal Coil songs...
beautiful song

Yes, wonderfully disturbing lyrics in a way similar to Kate Bush\'s \"Under Ice\".
i am glad this is short.
incredible piece...
:)
no kidding...! thanks - I honestly had not paid attention before. eerie in the extreme.

I can\'t believe this song has only gotten a 5.5! Is it because there are no words?

That kid is into everything. I guess there's not much else for him to do in Omaha.
:p
I have only heard a couple of Bright Eyes songs tho. I really really hated them. A lot.
Moby has really disappointed me lately, but I enjoyed this track for sure. Keep it spinning...
hmmm..........sounds just like \"So Cruel\" by U2. check it out!

Hmm, I don\'t know, why Moby is seen as such a great musician everytime...
Well, his older stuff was ok, there he did what he can best - making electronic music. But since \"Play\" his music became very boring. Most of the songs are just sampled vocals and drums with some beginner like instrument play (strings, piano or guitar).
If he did these songs with a real band, they would be much better, but now they sound something like very early tries of a beginner... :(
waaaaaay too much Moby \'round these parts lately. very tiresome.
I suspect that when people compare the new album to \"Play\" they are going to think it comes up just a bit short. Nonetheless, I think it is outstanding! I\'ve already lost track of the amount of times I\'ve listened to it since last week.
I love this song-what I\'ve heard of the whole album rocks so hard. Moby is what music should be about. :D
