Mama gripped onto the milkman's hand
And then she finally gave birth
Years go by, still I don't know
Who shall inherit this earth

And no one will know my name until it's on a stone
Woah

This could be your lucky day in hell
Never know who it might be at your doorbell
This could be your lucky day in hell, in hell

Waking up with an ugly face
Winston Churchill in drag
Looking for new maternal embrace
Another tired old gag

Am I just a walking bag of chewed up dust and bones?
Woah

This could be your lucky day in hell
Never know who it might be at your doorbell
This could be your lucky day in hell, in hell

Father Theresa, you can't make me into you
I never wanna be like you
Why can't you see, it's me
You know it's time to let me go

This could be your lucky day in hell
Never know who it might be at your doorbell
This could be your lucky day in hell, in hell, in hell

This could be your lucky day in hell
Never know who it might be at your doorbell in hell
This could be your lucky day in hell, in hell
In hell, in hell

Amen to that!
I don't know what's more disturbing - the song title, the album cover or the lyrics.
voce molto particolare - accattivante - bella canzone

You should really research how many Eels songs are in movies.  Here, let me help.

Interesting... I've never heard this song before, but I've definitely heard that line before and it definitely stuck with me. Peter Gabriel wrote Willow Farm in 1972:

Oh, there's Mum & Dad, and good and bad,
and everyone's happy to be here.
There's Winston Churchill dressed in drag,
he used to be a British flag, plastic bag, what a drag.
The frog was a prince, the prince was a brick, the brick was an
egg, the egg was a bird.

Eels are sometimes a bit sedate for me, but the image of "Winston Churchill in drag" will stick with me.
I kinda see what they're getting at, but without the musical genius of a Johnny Marr, witty, misery lyrics get real old by around the second chorus. Shame, but life is really too short for this.

I love the feeling I get when this comes on...and dig the alternate cringes and thumbs-up feelings that course through every Eels song. Makes me want to play the genius "Bus Stop Boxer" from Shootenany, which was the first record of E's I got turned onto -- thanks, RP!
"straight to hell", then "your lucky day in hell" ...
bill, bad mood or depressed ?
what next : "hell's bells" ?
This "sweet little love song" inspired me to begin a Forum Topic.
As an ex-Catholic,  this sounds pretty real.

Great song, great band, great album...
9!
This song is used in the film "Yes Man". Awesome film, great song.
This reminds me of a mindless online arcade game I used to play ...
I found "Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives" fascinating.

Great insight into the music of Eels.

Mark Everett is the driving force behind Eels. His dad was a brilliant but emotionally inaccessible physicist who likely had something like Asperger's. I saw a documentary about father and son which gave the impression that Mark istill working out a lot of issues from childhood. He's also gone through a lot as an adult.

Are the Eels reinventing the wheel and doing anything earth breaking.....no. Are they a solid, fun band with a great sense of melody and humor....absolutely!

This is the result of good music mixed by a good DJ - there's a whole group of us that have been taken on the same ride.

Waking up with an ugly face
Winston Churchill in drag

blondguy wrote:
Winston Churchill in drag ??? What the hell does that mean? Kinda catchy though

At a party once, when Churchill was drunk (kinda redundant), a woman said to him "Mr. Churchill, you are drunk" to which he replied "yes, madam, and you are ugly, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly".

It's kind of a sideways reference to that story I guess, trippy free association.

More Eeels, pleese!
There are so many great ones - this one is far from being the cream of the crop!
Not bad, though ...
I downloaded that Bjork video on utube and was watching that when I came back to PR I heard the line "waking up with an ugly face Winston Churchill in drag". Got the coffee off the monitor ok the keyboard will probably be sticky for a spell.
That reminds me it's time for my daily vitamin eel
If you sometimes feel like you are already in Hell, then you are. Case closed, next case.
His voice reminds me of Beck in this one.

Kind of Peter Murphyish-esque, but with a voice not as deep and a lighter tone to the music in places. I like it.

Good track this, better than their recent output.
Ok, whose favorite is Eels? ;) Just kidding, I am just wondering that I hear it every day, so this is one hell of a popular band, at least here in RP. I don't have anything against it.

If we wait, maybe they\'ll flock off back to the Sargasso and be miserable there instead.

The naughts could be the most dismal music era since the early 50s. The EELS are one of the few bright lights in a very dim firmament.
very smooth song.
Not my favorite Eels song, but it will do. They have a funny way of taking a pesemistic theme and singing it in a happy way.
Wahoo! Another one from my CD collection which I didn\'t expect to hear on RP. This is my favorite song from the CD, but \"Spunky\" is a close second.
Nice to hear one of my favorite eels songs here! Keep them coming!
