I love this song. I remember playing this in 1986/1987, when I first got my driver's license, driving my aged, non-practicing-Jewish-grandmother to "Price-Club" (now Costco). Other than the word "Jerusalem", I didn't make much of the lyrics, having been raised 'non-denominational'.
I noticed that my grandmother was listening intently. She then started lip-syncing the lyrics. She was fascinated by the fact that an African singer was reciting Hebrew prayers. I think she even liked it.

I like the Strummer & Mescaleros to Alpha Blondy segue.  I do like AB a fair bit and have been listening to this album since the late '80's — it's a good antidote for the really aggressive and nasty hip-hop and rap that floats around out there.

Good song for doing work at home. Nice and mellow, steady...

I've been a big fan of Alpha Blondy for 2 decades. One interesting fact about this album is that his backing band on this whole album, Jerusalem, was The Wailers. You can totally hear their musical stamp on this title track, as well as the rest of the album. If you wanted a place to start with Alpha Blondy, this album is a great one.

After all these years, it's getting pretty hard to do something original with the reggae.

I think these guys did that, and very well.

This song is bloody brilliant! I really enjoyed it. Although I do find two things curios about the comments that were made on this page: A) I find that art in general _is_ political by nature. And thus does warrant a discussion on that level. Although I do have to say that this IS a music forum and therefore, I for one, think that any political discussions should have to do with the artists point of view and not just random spouting about whether or not Jews have a right to be in Israel (and vice versa). If this was a song sang by an Israeli Jewish artist or an Israeli or Palestinian Arab artist then I suppose such a discussion would have some merit. I first heard this song back in the late 80\'s on the sound track for a Greg Stump ski flick. I loved it then, and I still really enjoy it. I usually end up dancing around the house when I play this CD. Was anyone else a Stump fan way back when? He had some really great music in his films. I believe somehow he was friends with Trevor Horn and into the ZTT crowd. Good stuff.
