I say I'll move the mountains
And I'll move the mountains
If he wants them out of the way
Crazy he calls me
Sure, I'm crazy
Crazy in love, I say

I say I'll go through fire
And I'll go through fire
As he wants it, so it will be
Crazy he calls me
Sure, I'm crazy
Crazy in love, you see

Like the wind that shakes the bough
He moves me with a smile
The difficult I'll do right now
The impossible will take a little while
I say I'll care forever
And I mean forever
If I have to hold up the sky
Crazy he calls me
Sure, I'm crazy
Crazy in love am I

Radio Paradise always seems to surprise us with forgotten gems like this one. Completely out of the blue, and yet it fits in perfectly.

Uggg .. don't get what the mad love for Billie Holiday is . Sigh.
Well done RP
How nice to hear my favorite singer's favorite singer.

1947
A whole different world -
Billie Holiday was 32.

Leeeroyyy Jenkins!!!
Thank you for giving new life to forgotten music. That's the beauty of Radio Paradise.

But I can't help but hear David Sedaris singing Away in a Manger

Puts a lot of contempory stuff to shame. I guess when you have true talent, you don't need all the gizmos.

S'OK Laurie, I don't get the hooplah about Elvis.
And suddenly I'm traipsing through the wasteland of post-apocalyptic Washington DC, watching out for mirelurks and other less-than-friendly creatures, while my ever-faithful companion, Dogmeat, pads along by my side. Ah, the memories!

Love Fallout and the radio stations (Butcher Pete, et al)

Doesn't get much better than this.

Wow... the recording quality on this is pretty good, considering it's 1947!
Now, that's the stuff. She was an Ebony Goddess. Oh, my!

Yup. Holiday barely had a 2 octave range. It's all about how she staged each note and word. Just delight.

A favorite.  Love Miss Holiday.
Wait - this is NOT Willie Nelson?
7 out of 7 women in my studio did not know who this is!{#Doh}

They do now! ( shamefully, one even thought Billie Holiday was a man!!)
Wonderful song. I would take a few more of these old standards from Dinah Washington, Johnny Hartman, Sarah Vaughan, Lena Horne, etc.

Wonderful way to start the work day. Thanks Bill.

First time to hear this. but... oh my... 10 straight off. A beautiful start to a sunny day in Denmark
There's a good reason why this is always in the top 25 of any top 100 list of all time best jazz tunes. Billie RULED it.
 O    M   G
make my heart sing with her ~~
Still makes me tear up every-time I listen to her voice.

it feels good to listen to this song even when not playing the amazing Fallout 3
9 to 10 - Billie Holiday is like no other... Grinning too big now...
love it!
Makes me think of old, open houses with porches all around, open on a summer sunday afternoon. Music wafting through the air from an old radio... It's Lady Day. It's like nothing else. {#Bounce}

I'm sitting here with a grin and tears. Love Billie Hliday - she reminds me of a simpler time that will never come again. Yes, I escape to the past because I can't afford, nor do I want, any of those high-zoot toys people use to pretend their lives are okey-dokey.  Music works for me. And Billie Holiday is the best mood-booster of all.

Great song. Great vocalist. Thx for playing.

This is pretty much the only tempo of song that could follow Willie the Pimp.
Where is my hunny bunny?  I want to take a little spin around the dance floor, in a backless red dress.....

The entire Fallout series opened the eyes of a new generation for the golden years.
Wich reminds me that we need some Ink Ipots on RP.
This reminds me of "Fallout 3".
The DJ (Three Dog) on "Galaxy News Radio" plays this song a lot.

Pretty big change of pace from Zappa to Billie Holiday.

Not bad though.

{#Clap}        I first heard this one when I was about 3 years old, courtesy of my father.  I was raised on classic jazz & big band music. That was circa 1950, folks. Still great, even thought she was technically 'before my time', her singing is timeless - she gives real meaning to the term "torch singer" in my book.  Without our forerunners there might not be any rock n' roll, eh? Of course, I did listen to a lot more than just jazz, but it sure was great as a steppin' off place for my ears & head. When my dad was in his teens he played piano, and he had a band. He used to tell me about driving to gigs in his model T.  Unfortunately there was no piano in our house when I grew up, but I did play the alto sax for many years.    Keep it up,  Bill !!!
This song was used in Fallout 3, a post-nuclear roleplaying game. Very suitable for the setting.

When I hear this woman slide her way into my head with that smoothsmoothsmooth voice, I think I was born in the wrong era.

Hmmm. I gave this an 8 because B Holiday was so wonderful and sings this beautifully, but I think the accompaniment sounds corny. I wonder how it sounded at the time it was recorded. Did it seem appropriate for her voice and style? Anyone know - or care?

From what I understand, it was considered a big deal for her as a black female vocalist of the time because it was only when the studio took your career seriously enough that they granted you the orchestral accompaniment. It's all about the strings.

I think the opposite. For me the accompanyment is pure magic, same as Billies' voice.

I care but I wasn't yet born so can't offer first hand experience but based on the time period, accompaniment was usually by "big" band and that's sound you'd hear. Sort of nightcluby. Wish I'd been there to appreciate it.
Hey! It's Madeleine Peyroux....oh wait...
Are we going to hear Patsy Cline next?
Amazing, always sounds like she's smiling as she sings.

This is great, I love Billie, thanx! Any older stuff (1930's) with Lester Young, would be great! No strings, just be-bop JAZZ!
Also agree- the pre 41 stuff is far superior, even if the sound quality isn't as good due to the technical limitations of that time. The Decca Sessions were recorded from 1944 to 1950.

Yeah, I agree. I have a version of her singing that song that is much starker and is my baby's favorite lullaby. She absolutely calms down when she hears it.

Whis is precisely why you would never consider giving a 1 to Bach. So this still makes the 1's given to Lady Day unbelievable and incomprehensible. (Not to mention reprehensible)
I love the fact that RP throws Billie into the mix. Cheers!

There are some very easily probabilities. They simply don't like jazz. They are annoyed at the tone that Billie puts out. Just because someone is significant doesn't mean you have to like them. I particularly don't like to listen to Bach. I still know he was pretty significant to musical history.
So perfect on Christmas Day, or any other time.

I've been waiting forever for RP to play a Billie Holiday song besides that "Speak Low" remix. Thank you, Bill for playing this. Billie Holiday, in my opinion, is the greatest singer ever. Her voice and her emotion is incomparable. To me all music begins and ends with her.

Beyond beautiful.
I absolutely LOVE that RP plays this stuff now and again. Thanks!
Today is the anniversary of her death I believe.
