In a little while
Surely you'll be mine
In a little while... I'll be there
In a little while
This hurt will hurt no more
I'll be home, love

When the night takes a deep breath
And the daylight has no air
If I crawl, if I come crawling home
WiIl you be there?

In a little while
I won't be blown by every breeze
Friday night running to Sunday on my knees
That girl, that girl she's mine
Well I've know her since,
Since she was

A little girl with Spanish eyes
When I saw her first in a pram they pushed her by
Oh my, my how you've grown
Well it's been, it's been...a little while

Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh

Slow down my beating heart
A man dreams one day to fly
A man takes a rocket ship into the skies
He lives on a star that's dying in the night
And follows in the trail, the scatter of light
Turn it on, turn it on, you turn me on

Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love
Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love
Slow down my beating heart
Slowly, slowly love

This sounds so much better than any U2 song I have heard so far.
The cranked, plaintive, raw guitar and vocals on this always seem to catch my ear. Now , as usual, a nice, tender U2 touchstone for a time of great upheavals and change...

The one with Atomic Bomb in the title is pretty damn good too. That might be their last great album.
Oh! Lyric times have their history. But this is an in the moment thing. Delicious hope.

I like (love) this band, till their early 90s work. But this one is really terrible...

When I lived in Dublin I was surprised by this too. We could express theories about why, but it's rather intangible. The Dubliners themselves can't explain it, really. I've asked a lot of friends and colleagues this question. However, I will say that seeing U2 in the 3 Arena a few years ago was an emotional experience, for the Irish crowd absolutely loved the band and gave the concert an electric atmosphere I've seldom felt in a concert.
Great Pop album. An easy listen in a good way.
I'm prone to PSD'ing U2, never was a great fan.  This is damn nice though.  Thanks Bill and Rebecca for constantly broadening my musical horizons.
Thank you, RP, for a lovely run of music this afternoon

I love the kind of trivia you get from RP users' comments... Makes it for a broader perspective of the music played here.

Thanks all and LLRP

Often, "What A Wonderful World" by Joey plays before this on RP.    Long live RP.
Very cool song. Love it

In a little while, we're gonna force feed you our music.  In a little while...

Not a HUGE U2 fan but this is pretty good.

It's amazing how many people who say they like U2 don't like this song. I say it's an excellent effort, very soulful and melodic. BTW - this is something Cheap Trick can only dream about.

Was going to upvote...  and then you slagged on Cheap Trick.  No need to bump up one band at the expense of another.
Bono sounds awful and ruins an otherwise nice song.

This song, and all the heart-felt songs from this landmark album, reminds how I was at the time back in the USA, back in Boulder, after an 8-year odyssey in the wilds of Noto Hanto, in Ishikawa, Japan, trying to hold onto the trappings of a broken marriage, and, after seeing this amazing band perform on this tour, right after 9-11, I gave up and found a way to launch myself back to Japan, where I would stay, in Tokyo, for the next ten years, teaching and writing, until I didn't want to be part of the whole radiation experiment, and now, here I am, back in Boulder, still trying hard to fit back in in the radically changed USA that is now seemingly in the grips of a real Roman-style decline, with a bona-fide Nero on the loose who is actively tearing it down, and I'm still trying to make sense of All That I Can't Leave Behind...and I find this song, this record is a bittersweet source of comfort and still-raw nostalgia for the softer kind of misery the world knew at the time... I wonder when the next U2 record will come along and give me an emotional life-line, something to recall with a kaleidoscope of emotion if we somehow make it through these most difficult times... Thanks, RP, for being a true constant!

Bona-fide Nero... nice.
I believe this was the last song Joey Ramone listened to before he died. I think Bill is aware of this because he played Joey Ramone's "Wonderful World" right before this. Nice!

I know a lot of people can't separate the artist from the art, but U2 is a great band and has put out a lot of quality music.... and Bono (bono vox) is a great singer! Deal with it....
Nice. Gotta turn this one up and enjoy the groove.

This was a very underrated album for me, but upon revisiting it there are a few very strong songs that I really like now...this tune is borderline among the best on the album.  Can do without it...
Not the best but it's not awful.
The h8 is swelling in you now.  Good! Use your aggressive feelings. Let the h8 flow through you!

Yes, this is my first listen and it's kind of sad. Not a great song or performance from a band I used to be quite fond of. No need to hear this again.
Not their best song, true, but still looking forward to seeing them in California this summer.

OK so lets be fair here.  Bono is a total freaky self deluded over hyped wierdo but once again i don't see what that has to do with the fact this is quite a cool song.

Amen, brother. This is non-epic and very soulful. I've done it in karaoke and people didn't even know I was singing U2! EDIT: He has made reference to Allison's (his wife) eyes as being "Spanish" in other tunes, too. Like in the B-side song Spanish Eyes.
dmax wrote:

Yeah...he's singing about his wife. I think you missed something there (even if all you missed was an attempt at humour.) And it was recorded after a night of too much drinking and you can hear it in his voice. A wonderful raw voice on a wonderful non-epic U2 song. TJ

Oh, but you have to rate it higher just because of the yearning in his voice. It makes you sing along with it (at least in the car where no one can hear your voice).

I don't want to like this song, really I don't, but it demands that I like it. Although I still don't approve of the face that the guitar has to sound so much like the Chili Peppers. that's just deceptive and disappointing.

I concur. I bought this album, and this is about the only track I ever really enjoy listening to. Well, Beautiful Day once in a while, too. But I really like the way this one flows.
There's just something about this song that made me love it ever since the first time I heard it. Outstanding!

That was a clever segue. they should've played u2's version of All Along the Watchtower and then play Bob Dylan's - Like a rolling stone.

are you kidding?! U2 has been around for over 25 years. and bono has been singing much longer than he has been in "politics." i think it's a little too late for him to "give it up."
again, song sequence is great... Social Distortion covering Johnny Cash, then Cash covering U2, then U2 themselves... love it
Okay, this is kind of a twisted set. I like it!
Oh HELL YES!! This is one of the best songs on that album! Very motown-ish....great groove.... Whoever's responsible for this upload...
Bill, I enjoy your sequencing of songs. Social Distortion covering Johnny Cash, then Cash covering U2, then U2 themselves. Likewise, a song by the Rolling Stones, followed by Dylan singing 'Like A Rolling Stone.' Clever.
i find this song needs me to be in the right mood. if I'm not, I can't stand it. if I am, it definately warrants a rating of 11.

I'm going to make 9 new accounts to rate this 10x10.
I always thought this sounded like Al Green channeled through Bono with Edge borrowing a Red Hot Chilli Peppers riff. But it works
