Alone with my guitar
Living on a mountain
Far away
I saw a girl
Gypsy woman deepest in the world
When she moved it was a dance
We hid ourselves
And I had no chance
For the treasure of the oneness
That like sand becomes a diamond
Before the wind
And while I changed my strings
A rocky mountain woman
Came to town to sing
Took my heart and ran
When she bade me follow
I just took her hand
I began my journey to the east
A country boy searching for my peace
In the treasure of the oneness
That like sand becomes a diamond
Before the wind
I sit in deep reflection
There are no answers
To my questions
Where did they go
And which one took my heart
Which one took my soul
I may never see it clearly there comes another
Now she turns to beckon me with the Devil's key
The treasure of the oneness
Then becomes sand and lies there naked
Before the wind
Living on a mountain
Far away
I saw a girl
Gypsy woman deepest in the world
When she moved it was a dance
We hid ourselves
And I had no chance
For the treasure of the oneness
That like sand becomes a diamond

Stills solo is definitely an acquired taste. I do like this when I hear it. Not something I would play on purpose though. He is no stranger to jamming and stretching things out. There is a 9+ minute version of Bluebird from the Buffalo Springfield days where he goes crazy right about where the banjo would cut in on the regular version. And that's back when a 3 minute song would be considered long.
"...Others like it just because of the names on the album cover..."
I like this entire album because I think there is a lot of great musicianship/songwriting on it, plus it brings back a lot of good memories of that time for me. I don't presume to know why "others" like it, but I would be willing to bet it's not really "because of the names on the album cover". Other than Chris Hillman, are those names even familiar to most listeners?

Not much on this album that I don't like. One of Stephen Stills' finest imo.
Not sure I've ever heard this before, and didn't recognize the voice, but I know I've never slapped a 1 on a song any faster. That was horrible, and I only made it 30 seconds.

Put the song in context. We are young; the pheromones are wafting. A 3rd beer, a second J. It works!
In the immortal words of Joe Strummer: "Fuckin' long, innit?" ;-(
To be positive, the longer this lasts, the greater my pleasure when it eventually ends...

gravitas?

I remember reading when Stills did a CSN recording after Manassas that he admitted to the producer that his vocals were bad on his last few records.
I had this album back then and I always thought it was boring. Others like it just because of the names on the album cover but they just sound like efficient studio musicians to me, nothing special.
Not digging this, and in some parts recording (Stills'voice) sounds a little crunchy.

Last part with guitar solo is unbelievably bad. 1.

It feels so good when it stops (although there is that PSD button).
BTW bad news: Before he kicked, Joe copyrighted his saying that you overuse...so you owe his estate your left kidney.

There's plenty of "free flow jamming" going on all over the place, if you look and listen for it. There's an entire genre of groups called "jam bands". Remember though, one person's "carefree" and "uncalculating" could be another person's "self-indulgent" and "dull".
Believe I have never heard this before. Oh, my.
First thought: drink it in every time it is played, you 55-and-uppers who remember and you youngers who would like to know. Your ears will never again hear music this carefree, on this level of uncalculating passion. The free flow jam was the standard of the age, but it's now all but extinct.

Yeah, Stills always sounds just a little bit sharp. It makes his singing distinctive. Kinda like George Harrison's guitar.
Not familiar with this one.
But very happy it is being played.
Only on RP.

I absolutely love this era of Stills. (1970 Stills, '71 Stephen Stills 2, '72 Manassas, '73 Manassas - Down the Road ,'75 Stills), 5 great albums plus others (this one maybe the best) that just didn't seem to get the credit (at least I felt) they were due. Certainly not the airplay! Thanks Bill!!!
Top 5 albums of all time
Depth, variety, musicianship..
Can't be beat.
Just listen to that screaming guitar..... Love it.

Oh, yeah! I wore it out on 8-Track, and it was the 2nd LP I ever recorded onto cassette (after "Abbey Road" and before "Quadrophenia").
Heh, almost forgot...Hey, Bill! How `bout "The Love Gangster" one o'these days...
A fantastic album from start to finish!

Ok, the extensive jam raised this to a six. Barely.
I saw CSN a couple of weeks ago and Stephen can still wail! Nash has found an old tape of Stills and Hendrix jamming and is planning to release it. Can't wait to hear it! The old man can still RAWK.
A fantastic album from start to finish!
