I don't pay taxes 'cause I never file
I don't do business that don't make me smile
I love my aeroplane 'cause she's got style
I'm a treetop flyer
I will fly any cargo you can pay to run
these bush league pilots just can't get the job done
Got to fly down into the canyons, never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run
For a treetop flyer
I'm flyin' low, I'm in high demand
Fly fifteen feet off the Rio Grande
I'll blow the mesquite right up off the sand
Seldom seen, especially when I land
I'm a treetop flyer
Born Survivor
People been asking me, "Where'd you learn to fly that way?"
Was over in Vietnam, chasin' NVA
The government taught me, and they taught me right,
Stay under the treeline, and you might be alright
I'm a treetop flyer
So I'm comin' home, I'm runnin' low and fast
I promised my woman this is gonna be my last
I get the ship down, I tie her fast
then some old boy walks up, says "Hey son, you wanna make some fast cash?"
I'm a treetop flyer
Well there's things I am, and there's things I'm not
I am a smuggler and I could get shot
Aint going to die, I ain't goin' to get caught,
'Cause I'm a flyin' fool and my aeroplane is just too hot
I'm a treetop flyer
Born survivor

Stephen without coke could have been a superstar!
So he preferred Pepsi; what's the big deal?
Only started listening to Stills the last couple of years. Sure i was aware of him but once i listened to Manassas that was it. But i listened to his recent live album and it was hard work. The fingers can still do it but everything else is, well just a shame.
Time waits for no one. Even for those among the last of the dinosaurs. Catch them while they still walk the Earth. You won't be disappointed.
Nice picking and voice combo, but I agree it seems a to be a song from the 70's. All that sex, drugs, don't cut your hair and defy the man stuff. Not all in this song, but of that era. Very nostalgic.
Yikes, it's $89.95! Guess I could get the cassette for $39.50
Ha! Same thing here. Although I wish Mr Stills would put his teeth back in.
And the first Manassas, of course.
was giving my 'sublime-bob marley-misfits-tool oriented sons a brief lesson on what music really used to be. we were headed trail ridin' for the day with a 2 hour ride to get there....spen t listening to buffalo springfield csny manasssas. delaney and bonnie ....i dont know if they liked it...but i did!

What a gorgeous song!
Wow...what a story teller! Wikip says he is the writer...and to tell a story that is so easy to imagine...maybe growing up in the 80's and seeing spectacular drug busts helps with the imagery.
Exactly. . .

Recently this has been one of my favorite albums. He's always been a great guitar player, but this album really brings it out to center stage.
Nice!
I'm sort of staid and responsible these days, falling asleep on the sofa in front of the TV ... dreaming about all the adventures that didn't quite happen.
Pehaps (and for once) not far off the mark. "Black Queen" from his eponymous solo album credits a bottle of Jose Cuervo Gold. I don't share the "yawn," BTW. Stills is a stone genius, unfortunately too stoned too many times.

Well said!
I saw Steve with Buffalo Springfield in Oakland (excellent!), and we're going to see Ray LaMontagne at the Greek in Berkeley come September.
Can't wait!

I agree. The guitar has a warm fuzzy sound to it that I enjoyed, but the vocals and lyrics scored a 4.

While I agree the negative comments can get bothersome, I disagree they should be band or filtered. Part of the attraction of this site is it is completely unfiltered. It is the responsibility of each individual to understand what is appropriate. And seriously, how cool is it that 99% of us just share politely our thoughts and opinions? If we were "forced" to share in a certain way I believe that would take away a little from the mystic of Radio Paradise. May this station/site continue to be a beckon of hope in an overly censored, overly governed, overly filtered, overly politically correct world/nation. We are all adults, we should take responsibility for our actions and know how to take care of ourselves. If something is offensive then ignore it...I personally just feel sorry for people who have nothing better to do that to post pictures saying, "Me and God hate this song." While listening to a radio station they clearly don't like very much, but I am not going to let it bother me...because it is just not worth it.
Essentially agree with your words of wisdom and tolerance.
But you have to admit that goes beyond the tolerable, the attitude of immature child, do a "spot" advertising with the slogan "Me and God hate this song." (Tasting more than doubtful, and even hateful) and placed randomly on the pages of the songs.
Other users will have the job of "creating" a free critique, positively or negatively, being supported in their arguments and personal taste, doing research on the songs and artists, and secondly, by way of constant challenge, one applies the " spot" by way of provocation which seems to come from an angry child, for, then, laugh at a good laugh.....
The forum of the RP should be a platform for free expression of ideas, free of censorship, but this freedom must be based on mutual respect, to not fall into anarchy low customs.
Or is it not?
It seems there are users in RP Station that behave as agitators and destructive; and poor education and lack of respect; frustation repressed? infantis behaviour? Bizarre situations? are a genuine obstacle and nuisance to who frequents the RP Station with interest the positive aspects and seriously; should in future there by the administrator a default filter good habits and customs that avoids this type of abuse.
These situations "gratuitous-pure-exhibitionism" telling should be given warning, and if they are not binding, must be banned.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion...it's what makes dialogue interesting. I am a sexagenarian and like to think I have an open mind to at least appreciate what others have to say as long as it isn't offensive or derogatory in any way..."an it harm none".
Perhaps others should do the same without prejudice.
Namaste.
Watch this amazing flying video....This tune goes perfectly
don't hear that
Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Niel Young (the guitar god) freely admits that Stephen is a better guitar player than he is. That's about all the affirmation a guy needs.
One of my favorite outlaw folk songs. Hells yes.

Well said, on so many counts.
Kudos for understanding what calypsus was talking about. His/her comments leave me puzzled most of the time, but I think you got the meaning exactly right. (I think.)
Your comments about the unfiltered nature of this site are spot-on. BillG puts it out there that "everything posted should be appropriate for all ages," and that's it. Except for the occasional cuss-word, RP actually is all-age appropriate. I wouldn't like to see this site filtered.
Even though the vast majority of the people are thoughtful and interesting, there are a few trolls on the comment boards, as you pointed out. (I find it both sad and fascinating that some joker thinks he actually speaks for God's musical taste - with a crummy graphic at that.) I actually feel bad for the folks that insist on posting negative comment after negative comment. Interestingly, the trolls almost always leave after a while because their negative comments generate negative attention. Funny how that works, isn't it?

Far out, Catherwood. Roll another bomber and leave it on the side table.

People, as a 60 year old who did time (air force) in the Vietnam, this is song is a tribute to those of us that found out how we were being screwed by the establishment and found away to flip it off through our acquired training, ergo pilots doing our best shot, regardless of the stupid suppression of smoking dope.

I'm working late and my mind is losing its...er...sharpness...so I am having a hard time figuring out if I should enjoy the irony of this or just move on...
Aw, come on...there is some pretty pickin' and some form of audio restfulness in this SS song, right? Were you rating the individual, his musical legacy, or this song? HNY & Cheers, Z
Anybody who has written songs like he has, deserves a high score, so that would be his legacy. Don't think the song is bad either, would rate that a 6 or 7. But basically I just wanted to annoy god and Wormtail.
Yeah, that figures, given the insight in his taste that god has given us so far. But by all means, keep licking up to him, it may serve you in the end. In the meantime, I'll give Stephen Stills an 8.

P.S. Really tired of the post below. It was cute the first time, now it's just annoying.
Jimmy'll do anything for a buck - have you heard his cover of Southern Cross? indecent.
Mr. Stills gets royalties from Treetop Flyer and Southern Cross so he's not cryin' 'bout JB doin' his songs.
He is a great songwriter.
This feller here thinks this song needs to get played more often on RP.
Still think so.
