For forty days
Only a spark
To light my way
I wanna give out
I wanna give in
This is our crime
This is our sin
But I still believe
I still believe
Through the pain
And the grief
Through the lies
Through the storms
Through the cries
And through the wars
Oh, I still believe
Flat on my back
Out a sea
Hopin' these waves
Don't cover me
I'm turned and tossed
Upon the waves
When the darkness comes
I feel the grave
But I still believe
I still believe
Through the cold
And the heat
Through the pain
And through the tears
Through the crowds
And through the cheers
Oh, I still believe
I'll march this road
I'll climb this hill
Down on my knees if I have to
I'll take my place
Up on this stage
I'll wait 'til the end of time
For you like everybody else
I'm out on my own
Walkin' the streets
Look at the faces
That I meet
I feel like I like I want to go home
What do I feel
What do I know
But I still believe
I still believe
Through the shame
And through the grief
Through the heartache
Through the years
Through the waiting
Through the years
For people like us
In places like this
We need all the hope
That we can get
Oh, I still believe
I had just gotten my driver's license and drove there in my stepfather's car with some high school friends, feeling so grown up. When I got back to the car to drive home, however, it wouldn't start and after a few panicked minutes I had to seek out a pay phone (remember those?) to call him and ask what to do. Turned out I had left it in gear when I parked, and didn't realize that it wouldn't start unless I put it in park first. Kind of deflated that grown-up feeling a bit, but hey, I still laugh about it now almost 40 years later....
Merry Christmas folks!
Highlow
anyway, that's what i think of when i hear this one.
I remember working their show in Louisville when they did the MTv New Music Tour (y'know, back in the days when the "M" actually meant "Music", what a concept). Anyway, loudest show in the Red Barn to that date. There were claims of db levels nearing jet takeoffs. Even doing a pre-show test of their PA, especially subs caused a detectable brownout to a large portion of UofL's campus. Helluva show.
Awww, I love this. I saw BRMC sometime in 2008 in Lexington (at The Dame, RIP), and I got the chance to talk to Michael Been. I was totally fangirling, ha!
Can't hear this tune without thinking of these guys... LOST BOYS!!
Wait, I thought that was Kajagoogoo?
In my life we've gone from vinyl to 8 track to cassette to DVD's to iTunes and now back to vinyl. What a long strange trip it's been...
I recently made the move back to cassette - I love the warm hiss and the slow down effect as my walkman batteries die.
I have to admit I do like the
TIM CAPPELLO
version better. Can't beat the sax.
I remember hearing this on the soundtrack to the film Lost Boys which is a good vampire movie if anyone wants to see it but is trumped by Near Dark with top notch performance from the late great Bill Paxton.
Agreed...
Wasn't Lost Boys filmed near Santa Cruz? (I noticed this band originated there). Always loved that movie partly for the location.
Santa Cruz is near and dear to my heart. The movie too.

That movie had an awesome sound track

Right?
Tim Cappello (performed the song in the movie) is still going strong. Even has a FB page. Looks damn good for 67...
So i had to look, it'd never struck me before that The Call could sound like Spinal Tap. Bizarre - I know
hmmm

this song reminds me of my childhood friends
me too TM, but it was my college buddies that i think of with this song. we wore this album out freshman year. thankfully i'm still in touch with them so many years later.

Twitterpated pre-teen emotions flood back. Anyone else!
Robert Levon Been is a member of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. They actually do a cover of The Call's "Let the Day Begin" on their Specter at the Feast album.
Obviously his son didn't go with his Dad's music genre for BRMC.
BRMC is truly a great band in their own right. Michael died while working on one of his son's BRMC tour. Going out the way he would have wanted, rocking. With family. I still believe.
Wouldn't go back to vinyl myself. If someone could play back a toptop-notch classical music recording on vinyl and show me that it bettered the CD version, I might keep a turntable around for the best LPs. Otherwise, no thanks.
I went Cassette > CD > MP3 > Radio Paradise, and got stuck on that last step.

Thanks for the laugh and the good message, guys.
Cassettes were great for us wannabe DJ's back in the day, copying from the radio, playing from the turntable (while trying to be extra quiet) and dubbing to tape, and then for advanced users, opening the case and splicing the tape....yeah...those were the days!
I don't remember listening to this when it came out (I was 9) and now I can proudly rate this one an 8.4; almost ready to upgrade to a 9....Long Live RP!!
+1 today; it's a 9 and LLRP!!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too! Get to da choppa!!!!
Yes! And it's not just me who thinks that! Double yes!
Classic!
Might just be. I do love the movie and prefer Tim Capello's solo version much better. The sax solo freaking just plain rocks.
Not sure about that. The Color of Money soundtrack was hard to beat.
...it was a cover, but yes, tim capello absolutely did sing it, and is remarkably capable of pulling off that sax-bodybuilder-synth-rock act, probably one of the only people who can...

Yeap. I still believe.
great film. song. era
Talk Talk why not - Go West - forget it...
That's a great throw back to th' day. Thanks.
Except that you'd have to wait around a long time. About a decade separated bellbottoms (early 70s) and mullets (mid to late 80s)
maybe Xtra shoulder pads for your polyester Members Only jacket ; )
Problem with Venice Beach.... All the Vampires!
Naw... the Vampires are all from Santa Cruz just like this band!

I think you mean Bananrama. Or on a positive note, The Human League.
Nice to hear again!

Love this song! It's 2 days before the 2024 election. Song is also on my "Gettin' Through" playlist.
