Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone
I got a bad desire
I'm on fire

Tell me now baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do
I can take you higher
I'm on fire

Sometimes it's like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my soul

At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running
Through the middle of my head
Only you can cool my desire
I'm on fire

Sometimes it's like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my soul

Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone
I got a bad desire
I'm on fire

As a bassist I find her to be rather good. Perhaps some fretless bass in the mix ...;-}

As a pianist myself I appreciate her skills; her left hand is very good indeed.

Yes! I saw him do it a number of time live in person in San Francisco in the 1980s!!!

Her version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is an improvement on the original.
poopie
Oh no.   I like some Tori stuff but this is not working for me!
Had to come over to the RP computer just to amuse myself with the comments section. Oh no! The absolute Boss of all music destroyed by that evil harlot!
this is not a good cover.
A classic song....it doesn't matter who does it...well not Trump.

Big fan of Tori, not a fan of this song...

I second that emotion.  Except I can't stand her.

Tori Amos kills all music. I mind.

This doesn't need to exist. Now that I think of it, Tori Amos' singing career didn't really need to exist either...
This song is covered by way too many people as it is, but this is a new low. What was she thinking? As others have said, I like Tori Amos. This is awful.

"Fire" is not the same song as "I'm On Fire". Though Bruce did both, Elmer channeled through Robin only did the former... (at least, so I recall).
Tori Amos' fire is as cold as ice
I like the first 1/2 of this version and then it just loses me.
Interesting version.
Oh God, no.  Please no.
i'm a huge tori fan, but this does sound a touch asthmatic. ok, more than a touch. "sometimes it feels like he took a six-inch knife edgy and dull and cut a breathing hole in the middle of my thorax ..."
Yuck.
It's funny, but my initial response on hearing it just now was to go to Radio Paradise and vote "no" on this... really, I can enjoy Tori Amos to a certain extent, but her doing her overcompressed breathing thing on this song just doesn't feel right. But then I see that people are going MUCH further in their reactions, and all of the sudden I'm feeling the need to protect Tori Amos. My how things change. Anyway, look at it this way. She's a good piano player and vocalist even if you don't like her style, and I see no problem with her covering a good song like this one. That said, I DO have to question RP's need to PLAY this song. I don't really feel that it adds anything new to the song. Now, her "Teen Spirit" cover on the other hand... THAT really worked for me. So there.
She is conveying the wrong emotions in this rendition.
What? Can't understand a word she is saying... is this supposed to be a Springsteen song? Gawd.... how awful!
I love the piano...nothing like the Boss', but I like it.
This is ghastly. Please stop, Bill, for the love of all that's good and decent.
She's on SOMETHING, but it ain't fire... A 2.
Start out with a song I can't stand, and moan and ache over it....yuck. Way too messy. But I must part company with those who dislike her version of "teen spirit" -- pretty interesting. Then again, it's all about the quality of the material one starts out with.

No one covers her stuff because it sucks. She does covers to fill CDs, unfortunately.
mother of god, no! no no no no no no NO NO NO NO! I've got a bad desire to smash the infernal demon-music box that brought this curse to my home.
Talking about making a song boring...
Have to say, while I love Tori, this is a poor rendition of this song. Patti Smith covers Bruce well, Tori it appears does not.
Nah. can't get behind this at all. It only feels worse with each passing moment.

You make a good point here. However, I'm sure people hundreds of years ago, people didn't enjoy every remake that was played.

Interesting juxtaposition, Bill. I'm not a Bruce fan, but hearing this version (right after another Boss song) makes me appreciate that there's no denying great songwriting. Seems I enjoy other people singing Springsteen songs. Thanks for playing this.
You said it! I'm not a Springsteen fan either but I've always respected his song writing and live persona. This just shows me again. ...oh yeah, Tori doesn't do a bad job either!

I'm trying to figure out what it means when I realize Robin Williams' version brings out the strongest response from me!?!
I know that these comments are from a while ago but I wanted to set the record straight. Robin Williams doing Elmer Fudd didn't do this song. He did "FIRE". Remember the lyrics? I'm driving in my car, I turn on the radio I'm pulling you close, you just say no You say you don't like it, but girl I know you're a liar `Cause when we kiss, Fire etc. "Fire" appeared on the Live 1975-85 album. "I'm on Fire" appeared on Born in the USA.

My ears are on fire. Make the whiney singing stop!
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!!!!! Please don't play this again!!!
pale to the boss, toss it play Bruce !!
I'm with Chunk. Take this off the list, play Bruce instead. So far as I've heard, the only cover she's done that I like was Leonard Cohen's Famous Blue Raincoat. Is that one on the list yet? *goes to check* And where can I find the Robin Williams as Elmer Fudd cover? I'd like to head that!
Sorry Tori, you did a pale imitation of Bruce's version. I guess she was just asking for failure, though; I doubt anyone could even begin to approach Springsteen's studio recording of this song.
Oh, the return of the whiney annoying one... Not sure what's more annoying... listening to the songs she writes (I mean, come on, the word "bullshit" in a chick song?) or knowing she's making money butchering someone else's fine song through her "cover."

Remove the vocals, and it might raise the rating to a "3" in my book.
I love tori... just wish she wouldv'e turned down the drama a bit on this one.
No fire here. 3.
I have yet to hear a cover by TA that she didn't butcher....

:D One of my all time favorite bands.
she sounds so horny. Not too bad though, all things considered.

I couldn't agree more... RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! She just ANNOYS me...
please....please... make her stop...someone throw a bucket of water on her :P

fantastic transition, a very nice touch from springsteen to this classy cover.
Tori Amos makes me want to jump out of a window. Bruce is much, much, much better.
Tori makes this song her own. She has a voice that fits it. I like it.
Scary. Fish out of water.
Good god, no. I like a good deal of what Tori does, but what is she THINKING here? And she doesn\'t sound on fire in any way that phrase has meaning. Or if she is, that\'s one hell of a slow burn. Great song. Horrid cover. Ugh, oy vey, etc.

Ditto
Can\'t she continue making some sort of modern classical music, instead of trying to teach people who like pop/rockmusic what their favourite music should be like, or what they\'re missing, according to her?! The best thing about this I\'m On Fire version was the relief of listening to John Hiatt\'s Crossing Muddy Waters afterwards. BTW, I appreciate some things she does, but not her \"rebuilding\" rock \'n\' roll songs into semi classical stuff.

I love you, Tori...will you be my lady?
First, let me say that I am a Tori fan... but this is just wrong. Some remakes work great, but this is not one of them. Blech.
RE: the \"beats the Pointer Sisters\" question below... i think you are thinking of \"Fire\", not \"I\'m on Fire.\" Also a Springsteen song, but not the same Springsteen song. He writes a lot of music. The language only has a few thousand really useful words. So eventually a guy runs out of song titles.
I\'m not a huge Bruce fan (here in Seger country) but I consider this tune one of his most passionate and moving. Tori has ruined it forever for me...
aaaugh. that\'ll be quite enough of Tori Amos for this decade, thank you very much!
I\'m ok w/ this version. What\'s interesting is that on this date (middle May) most Bruce Springsteen songs on RP seem to be covers like this one. Is that a commentary on the phase the Boss\' career is in?
I really did try to think of an intelligent was to describe my opinion of Tori Amos...but in the end I\'ll just second one of the posts below. This sucks!
This song actually brought be back to Tori and the Boss. I\'ve always love Tori\'s versions of songs. I think this is one of, if not, her best.
I like Tori but this rendition is absolutely horrendous.
This is just horrible to me. A perfectly wonderful Bruce Springsteen song sung by this goof ball. Sing your own crappy songs sister - leave the good ones alone. But that is just my opinion... :)
