Baby take off your coat
Real slow
Take off your shoes
I'll take off your shoes
Baby, take off your dress
Yes, yes, yes
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on
Go over there, turn on the lights
All the lights
Come back here, stand on that chair
Get up woman, that's right
Raise your arms up in the air
And now shake 'em
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live
You give me reason to live
Sweet darling
(You can leave your hat on)
Just leave your hat on, girl
A little wild man
(You can leave your hat on)
Leave your hat on
(You can leave your hat on)
(You can leave your hat on)
Suspicious minds are talkin'
They're tryin' to tear us apart
They don't believe in this love of mine
They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
They don't know what love is
I know what love is
And baby, put it my way
(You can leave your hat on)
And just leave your hat on now
They don't wanna
(You can leave your hat on)
Won't you do that for me, babe?
(You can leave your hat on)
And just leave your hat on, girl
(You can leave your hat on)
Real slow
Take off your shoes
I'll take off your shoes
Baby, take off your dress
Yes, yes, yes
You can leave your hat on
You can leave your hat on

Wonderful early song. What about the dozens of comparatively recent ones? Too quirky to get famous but amazing material.
This reminds me of the scene in that Ahnold Schwarzenegger movie where is wife is pretending to be a call girl....
In our house it is not 9 1/2 weeks. it is 9 1/2 months. That is about how long after my wife and I watched this movie that our first daughter was born. Coincidence?
Randy Newman has a very deep catalog that could stand some airplay on RP... The man is brilliant...

Love this. Joe Cocker's is even better - far more sexy. But Tom Jone's version nails it - he understands sex appeal in a way that Randy must just shake his head at and that Joe only dreamt of. But I love this original for even existing.
Now I'm Jonesing for the Jone's version.

Yeah! Aching for them shakes, since they're always blurred out on screens.
Give the U.S. more clear views, since they're longing for it so much!
But in the movie, they used Joe Cocker's cover of the song. Newman's is way better. When he sings "Raise your arms up to the air...now shake 'em!" Newman makes it clearer what he wants shaken.

Kinda the point. This song is not supposed to be sexy. In fact, it's one of the most deeply creepy songs Randy ever wrote, and that's saying a lot. I'm pretty sure Joe Cocker and Tom Jones missed the point.
I can think of nothing unsexier than Randy Newman singing his song You Can Leave Your Hat On.

This is a far cry from You've Got A Friend In Me.

Dated a girl in the 70's who loved to act out this song... (and I didn't mind watching). I picture her standing on a chair in my living room with just a hat on every time I hear this song, good time.
Is there a video for this song? Ha!

Tom Jones version - 8
Joe Cocker version - 9
Love the groove in this song.

hey, it's pretty cool that listeners are rating a tune that's never been played. What's up with that?

I like Joe's version better, still this is an 8 to me cuz Randy Newman is cool. Long Live RP!!

An outstanding album!
It seems to me the musical stylings of Mr. Newman would be a perfect fit for the quirky, eclectic tunes here on RP, and yet, he is very rarely played. I always appreciate whenever I hear one of his songs played, though.

It's time to put this on the air, already.
