No woman, no cry (Repeat 4 times)

Said said
Said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
Oba, ob-serving the hypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have had, oh good friends we've lost along the way
In this bright future you can't forget your past
So dry your tears I say

No woman, no cry
No woman, no cry
Oh my Little sister, don't she'd no tears
No woman, no cry

Said, said, said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
Log wood burnin' through the night
Then we would cook corn meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you

My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
But while I'm gone...

Everything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright

No woman, no cry
No, no woman, no woman, no cry
Oh, little sister, don't she'd no tears
No woman, no cry

No woman, no woman, no woman, no cry
No woman, no cry
Oh, my little darlyn no she'd no tears
No woman, no cry, yeah
any sister no she'd no tears, no women no cry

No woman no cry, no woman no cry
No woman no cry, no woman no cry

Say, say, said I remember when we used to sit
In a government yard in Trenchtown
Obba, obba, serving the hypocrites
As the would mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have, oh, good friends we've lost
Along the way
In this great future,
You can't forget your past
So dry your tears, I say

No woman no cry, no woman no cry
Little darling, don't she'd no tears, no woman no cry
Say, say, said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was, love would burn on through the night
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge
Of which I'll share with you
My fear is my only courage
So I've got to push on thru
Oh, while I'm gone

Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
So woman no cry, no, no woman no cry
Oh, my little sister
Don't she'd no tears
No woman no cry
I remember when we use to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire lights
As it was, log would burnin' through the nights
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge

Oh, while I'm gone
No woman no cry, no, no woman no cry
Oh, my little darlin'
Don't she'd no tears
No woman no cry, No woman no cry

Oh my Little darlin', don't she'd no tears
No woman no cry
Little sister, don't she'd no tears
No woman no cry

What slays me is that all the beach bar drunks think reggae is happy music.  Clearly they've never read the lyrics.

Plausible.  A shoutout to Bob?  Yeah, that's the ticket.
Hey guys, did really Bob write only one song ???? It's the only one (approx.) that you stream.....
I would swear Phish's "Farmhouse" uses this during the bridge.
I saw the Babylon by Bus tour three times. Every time Bob sang"No Women no Cry" the whole place started crying.Powerful cat.

Me too! I came so close though. In college I sometimes worked as an usher at the university auditorium. Bob had been through once before and I missed him so when I  saw he was playing our little college town again, I was really looking forward to seeing him. But... on the scheduled day it turns out I had a big final the next day, and decided I would just catch him next time he came. He passed not too long after that. Always regret not going.
Definitely my favorite version of this song. I remember listening to it back in the day with my big, bulky headphones, loving not only the music, but loving the crowd who was so into the moment. Magical stuff.

Huh? This song is about Marley's early years in the impoverished Trenchtown section of Jamaica - it's not a breakup or relationship song. It's a song of reminiscence, yearning and hope. So, exactly which one of you was "not too bright?"

Yup, TOTALLY missed the boat!

The title 'No Woman, No Cry', means 'Woman, don't cry'. The title alludes to telling a woman not to cry.

The lyric has been misunderstood by those outside of Jamaica to mean something like "if there is no woman, there is no reason to cry", or having secret feelings towards women.

In the song, Marley mentions the Government Yards of Trench Town, a public housing project in Kingston where he grew up. The lyrics also include references to cornmeal porridge, a popular breakfast in Jamaica.

Wailers bassist Aston 'Family Man' Barrett told NME in 2012: "The song is about the strength in the mama of course, strength in the ladies. And we love a woman with a backbone. Something like a wishbone!

"They have to be like a she lion! Woman strong, you know, not depending on the man. Of course the man is there to help you, then for every successful man, there is a good woman."

The best comment is that this song is unmatched for its great, positive uniting message,10 10😊
I love the music, but more than that I love this song because it reminds me of  they joy of seeing great shows at smaller venues.

My rating down from 8 to 7

always thought the lyric was 'love wood burning through the night'. log makes more sense. ;)
I really like the Fugees cover of this song. I can't help but imagine their slightly modified lyrics while listening.

"I remember when we used to rock in a project yard in Jersey
And little Georgie would make the firelight
As stolen cars passed through the night
And then we'd hit the corner store for roots, paper, and brew
My drink's my only remedy
For pain of losing family, but while I'm gone shorty
Everything's gonna be alright, everything's gonna be alright
Fugees come to the dance tonight, everything's gonna be alright"

I'm with you, well nearly all the way there I have this at a 9, which is about as high as any 'live' tracks I've rated on RP.  And considering the quality of the sound put out, with the feedback and crowd noise, that's saying a lot, right?  Gosh I wish I had had a chance to see Bob M perform!!  Long Live RP!!
Probably, one of the best live (recorded) tracks EVER. 10.

Thank You     Bob Marley

8 - Most Excellent  to me

At night he walks up to the computer, when the last person is going to bed, so that we can put his music on.

Have to laugh at the uncanny reality of that comment. Btw, this tune is so dull to me. I'd be willing to bet that being in a live setting hearing this tune...it would be far more interesting.
Not be a 10? Because Jimmy Cliff must be given at least a few points.
How could it be less than a 10?  An anthem to what is, a hymn to what was, and a haiku to what could be.
Sounds like it was performed in my local pub, opening for the Macc Lads.

No doubt about the quality of Bob Marley, but every song of his, and especially this one, make me feel that time is standing still. They never stop.

There are benefits to trying to understand women.  Pitfalls too, like the headache every time the wife changes the rules on me.

It's all worth it though.  We are best friends as well as husband and wife.

Trying to get beyond the "My feet is my only carrot" line (spaceman, I hate you/adore you), Bob Marley is still one of my favorite reggae artists. I REALLY need to find the article I wrote about being the first person to dance to reggae music in a cow-town...
The greatest reggae artist.  Still.

Interesting to hear the audience making up rhythyms and seeking the refrain...very good live performance, even without enhancements...

Surprising (and sad) that even Bob Marley can't do it for you. There are definitely genres I'm not into (ie ska) but I can always find at least one song as an exception, and sometimes that particular song will open up the genre for me.

Yes. There's "Jamming" and the one they play over the Jamaica vacation ads on TV.
I had never really listened to Bob Marley until I went to West Africa. My co-worker there constantly played a tape that he called a rap tape, but was actually a whole series of bands performing the same songs in different ways. All the songs were by Bob Marley, and it included this one, as well as "Waiting in Vain". I got sick of them at the time, but now when I hear them there's such a fondness for that experience (plus the songs kick ass anyway ).
Stunning
