When the road gets dark
And you can no longer see
Just let my love throw a spark
And have a little faith in me

And when the tears you cry
Are all you can believe
Just give these loving arms a try
And have a little faith in me
And

[Chorus:]
Have a little faith in me
Have a little faith in me
Have a little faith in me
Have a little faith in me

When your secret heart
Cannot speak so easily
Come here darlin'
From a whisper start
To have a little faith in me

And when your back's against the wall
Just turn around and you will see
I will catch, i will catch your fall baby
Just have a little faith in me

[Chorus]

[Sung Over Fade:]
Well, I've been loving you for such a long time girl
Expecting nothing in return
Just for you to have a little faith in me
You see time, time is our friend
'Cause for us there is no end
And all you gotta do is have a little faith in me
I said I will hold you up, i will hold you up
Your love gives me strength enough
So have a little faith in me

If your back is against the wall, and you turn around, you'll see the wall.

  well, that IS true.

i used to think this was sung by randy newman. i don't know how i made that mistake.
Far too long. lyrics need work & somebody else to sing it.

American Treasure.  Always under rated.  Have "stumbled" across him playing at multi artist festivals a couple times and he always stops me in my tracks.  A real performer.

You mean John Prine, right?  Maybe 420 is involved.

except this predates Toy Story by 7-8  years. There is a similiarity, yes.

Well, I would say, EVERYTHING.  But Bring the Family is definitely a must have.  He's been touring a lot lately so make sure you pick up one of those concerts near you.  I saw him with Lyell Lovett a few years ago and it was all that I dreamed it would be.

Unless John Hiatt is there to catch your fall, that is.
Preach brother Hiatt.

Hey don't scare me! That was  the equally great John Prine that passed away.

I have a weakness for Acoustic Piano.
Probably why I like the McCoy Tyner song that followed this one too.
There are several versions of this song around, including other versions by John Hiatt himself. This is by far the most incredible of them. Just a man and a piano accompaniment. It must take a lot of self confidence to deliver such a vocal performance.
More from this amazing album!
Got a Randy Newman vibe...

We get the point. Do you have to keep repeating the same lyric?

Sometimes songs repeat lyrics, especially in the chorus.  There are probably millions of songs throughout human history where such astonishing things have occurred.
Liked Jewel's version in the shampoo scene in Phenomenon with Kyra Sedgwick and John Travolta, too. Simple song, but effective.

Including the aforementioned Mr. Cocker, 67 artists have covered John Hiatt 88 times:  http://www.unicom.com/retired/...

There's something special beneath that gruff exterior.

You take me way more seriously than I do. This song an 8 for me btw.
His voice kinda reminds me of Cyndi Lauper

I get your sentiment....but when I think of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord," I really love the repetition (with small variations) because it feels very spiritual.
Awful, terrible, horrible.

I don't know any other John Hiatt songs that I know of but now I'm curious.
Good stuff.

Usually don't much like Hiatt, but this comes through strong and true.

"Friend Zone"?  I'm probably better off not knowing the meaning of that term.  Didn't Randy Newman already write this song?  Nah, I guess John wrote it first.

John Hiatt was always one of my favorites....and then this song was in Benny and Joon. Fabulous marriage of music and movies.

Agreed.  Memphis in the Meantime is my all time favorite.  There is no better groove.  Course John isn't exactly playing with slackers.

Hiatt the songwriter - of course.  Hiatt the vocalist - Wow!  Nice work on this one (and probably others which I have simply not noticed).

Stolen Moments is essential too!  Hiatt Comes Alive At Budokan shows him at his live best as well.

This song always brings me to tears. Beautiful and heartfelt. Love the piano.

This cd is a pretty good place to start. I liked it.

Review from Amazon - "Vitually unknown outside a small but highly appreciative audience, John Hiatt has steadily become one of musics true greats. Take a sublime songwriter, add a twist of pathos, a funny umbrella, and a voice which can be at once plaintive and loud and you have the cocktail that is Hiatt (no ice needed, coolness guaranteed).

This record (in legion with Nick Lowe on bass, Ry Cooder on guitar and Jim Keltner on drums is the precursor to their other, but not as successful collaboration, Little Village) covers JH's trials and tribulations in relationships (with people and alcohol) and is a stunningly honest approach to the same."

Great lineup. Great tunes.
AMEN!
Need to get me some Hiatt.

Can I get some recommendations from his avid fans?

Thanks
This is so good. Memories. Roskilde 1988, Blue Tent. Such a good feeling.
