Well, I'm so tired of crying
But I'm out on the road again
I'm on the road again
Well, I'm so tired of crying
But I'm out on the road again
I'm on the road again

I ain't got no woman
Just to call my special friend

You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow
In the rain and snow
You know the first time I traveled
Out in the rain and snow
In the rain and snow

I didn't have no payroll
Not even no place to go

And my dear mother left me
When I was quite young
When I was quite young
And my dear mother left me
When I was quite young
When I was quite young

She said, ''"Lord, have mercy
On my wicked son."''

Take a hint from me, mama
Please don't you cry no more
Don't you cry no more
Take a hint from me, mama
Please don't you cry no more
Don't you cry no more

'Cause it's soon one morning
Down the road I'm going

But I ain't going down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself
But I ain't going down
That long old lonesome road
All by myself

I can't carry you, baby
Gonna carry somebody else

Seems like the "Best of Canned Heat" album could be just one song.
Original release: 1968.
Thanks again Bill! On a roll delivering the best to we gray haired ones as always!

Big thumbs up to Eileenomurphy for her WNEW FM post! Yeah!  Birds of a feather.

Alison Steele...The Nightbird!
so good to hear something else than goin' to the county such a underplayed group.
GODLIKE!!! ICONIC!!! When this came out, they used to play it a lot on WNEW FM 102.7 NYC.  Brings back memories!  Thank You RP!
Please give a listen also to the 1980s "space" version of Rockets ...
Used to consider them a novelty act. Discovered later they were serious students of The Blues
This song captures just about everything I love about rock music--a favorite.
One of those strange songs when I heard it one time after many before after all these years and suddenly realized..Holy Shit, this is amazing.  Some of the best harmonica I have ever heard and I have heard a lot.  RIP Blind Owl.{#Meditate}
This is good shit...I was always attracted to this songs vibe. As a song writer this was a song that just 'Came together"

And this afternoon I'm listening to the same great set, Canned Heat right now, hoping someone's version of Going Down the Road Feeling Bad :-)

Back in the day ..........  if you were wondering, you could ask someone about Hot Tuna.  If they were knowledgeable, you invited them around back of the barn for a smoke.
Another song with a baby-voiced, whispery, breathy, female singer...oh, wait, I may need to reconsider: this sounds like Mumford & Sons, or one of The Muppets as mentioned below.

Thanks.  Now I can't not hear Kermit singing this.

Like every Brit or American rocker who played the blues . . . for starters.
Having said that, there's no question that Led Zeppelin (for instance) should have credited some of their "influences".

Quote:"On the Road Again" was adapted by Alan Wilson from a song of the same name recorded in 1953 by Floyd Jones (July 21, 1917 – December 19, 1989), a Chicago blues musician. Jones' song was itself an adaptation of "Big Road Blues," recorded in 1928 by Delta blues musician Tommy Johnson.

So, who do we ban here?

Ha! I knew theses guys back in the day ('69). Our anarchist affinity group had use of the Fillmore East every Wednesday for community concerts. Canned Heat was one of the bands who came forward to play. They, and their music, were alright in my book. Still are.
    This is one of those "had to be there" songs. If you didn't experience this song/group within the context of everything that was going on (counter-culture, anti-war/peace movement, hippies, drugs, flower power, etc.), then you're probably not going to appreciate it now.
     That being said, I would say that the vocals are no more strange than some of the things that the hugely popular Bon Iver has going on (check out the track Holocene).
     Also, has anyone noticed the near identical instrumentation between On the Road Again and the song Back Where I Started from Box of Frogs? Can't imagine there weren't legal ramifications...

and never forget to booge........
Did any of their output warrant a 'Best Of'?

The year was 1969. Another gem from a great year in Music history.

Aaaa hahaha!  Yes, you've nailed it.  Kermit!

Catchy tune.....but so is "Kung Fu Fighting".
But why, oh why, are the drums mixed entirely into the right channel, etc? {#Stupid}

The AM radio version. I got one much better off Itunes.
To imagine in August these guys will play at a local Bluesrock Festival in a small town just around the corner from where i live... {#Mrgreen}

Jerry, just remember, it's not a lie if you believe it

Saw a clip of this band from a Woodstock documentary. They were wicked good live.
Kind of hypnotic.

ooooohhhhhh.... LOVE THIS!!!
I'd almost sell my soul to some kinda evil deity to have a voice like that (just kidding, evil deities!)
This wonderful set keeps on going.

they don't give any credit on the album? They were known as blues collectors and experts back then... folklorists who studied the blues. I'm sure they announced quite often who had originally done the song; but I don't know....certainly a lot of white blues bands and white folkies took the exact song or melody of an original song and made money off of it. do you think Led Zep and Bob Dylan should be played on here?

A great cut from a Blues Band named after STERNO! {#Lol}
Quintessential Canned Heat! Back in the day we (UAW/MF) would throw free concerts at Fillmore East in NYC. These guys were always willing musicians. Great guys to hang out with as well.

Sweetness.  Listened to this the first time I dropped.  Damn talk about memories.
Kermit the Frog sings... man... can't stand this, never could.
I am honored to have caught this one at such a long interval (or did we just lose some data...?)

Let's not - forget - to BOOGIE!

Wow - this hasn't been played since 2003!!!??  Amazing....gr8 song!  {#Bananapiano}
