A storm it was blowin' in
Twister was about to spin my way
Her kitchen door was swingin' wide
As if to say come on inside to stay

Come to mama babe
Come to mama she say
Come to mama baby

Get yourself into a cellar
Gals go grab yourself a feller 'fore it's too late
Friend you'd better run for cover
Don't be caught alone out on lover's lane

Come to mama babe
Come to mama she say
Come to mama baby

It's best to make the most of this
Fate is known to twirl and twist
Even the face of the first girl I kissed
I can't recall
Not at all

Preachers was a reachin' out
The speaker wires callin' out my name
Son we're in the final hour
Making love you ought to be ashamed
But if that woman ever stars him down
The way she do he'd see it ain't that plain

Come to mama babe
Come to mama she say
Come to mama baby

It's best to make the most of this
Fate is known to twirl and twist
Even the face of the first girl I kissed
I can't recall
Can't recall

Come to mama babe
Come to mama she say
Come to mama baby

Well come come to mama babe she say
Won't you come come to mama she say
Won't you come come to mama baby

Ooh ooh ooh
Come come come come to mama
Come come come come to mama (ooh ooh)
Come come come come to mama (ooh ooh)
Come come come come to mama
Come come come come to mama
Come come come come to mama
Come come come come to mama

Thanks Rabbit Ears!  I will add that Grant-Lee Phillips has spoken about indigenous roots that he himself has.

Though the chemistry among the three musicians allowed them to accomplish a great deal in a short time, they were at a loss to find a name for the project. They went under a variety of monikers, including the Machine Elves and Mouth of Rasputin, changing their name with each early gig. The handle they settled on in 1991 reflected both Phillips’s own name and his favorite themes. “Grant Lee Buffalo was sort of a character,” he told Huh magazine. “A composite of Buffalo Bill and Harry Houdini and a whole lot of history and a whole lot of nightmares.” Critics have been unable to resist pointing out that placing Grant and Lee—names of the two most famous generals of the Civil War—alongside the name of an animal extinguished by the settlement of the West also points out the nightmare side of history itself.

A very excellent song, and what a well-crafted sound and spin they put on this poignant, nostalgic gem!

Buffalo. They prefer to be called bison.

fabulous cd, all around. excellent in concert....but i think Grant Lee Philips may just be solo now. not sure if the band is defunct, or if he's just on a solo hiatus. either way, great musician.
He's remained active, and is still pretty damned good.

There seems to be a bug with the new software. If you are not quick enough, your comment will appear on the currently playing tune. I'm not sure where this post will end up jacopo777, but is was a reply to your post on a Grant Lee Buffalo tune.

It's a dessert topping! It's a floor polish!

Actually, GLB was also Town Troubadour for Stars Hollow, CT (think "Gilmore Girls"):

Seems like you could be crusin down Highway 61 . . . is there any doubt how much Dylan has influenced rock music?

The last little mumblings at the end of the song sure sounded like Donovan's riff, "Oo ooo, ooo ooo Barabajagal."
This is a decent track, and I could totally see myself listening to, and enjoying this out back of a saloon in New Mexico. But 15 minutes after I hear it, I have no idea what the melody was. It just doesn't stand out enough ( for me ) in that way.

A great live performer. Not one of their better efforts.

Those 2 earlier albums are much better than "Jubilee", although it has a couple of good tunes on it. I usually skip past this song, though.
GLB are indeed defunct, but GLP still performs live. One of the sexiest drawls I've ever heard - check out "Dixie Drug Store" for the full effect. ;)
as a new GLB fan, i love everything i've heard so far. bill should play more stuff from jubilee like "testimony", which happens to be my favorite song right now. do yourself a favor and click on the "buy CD" link to purchase this must have music. ;)
