I saw Sparks on American Bandstand, believe it or not. Back around 1974 or so. I was enthralled. What a bunch of characters. And the music was fun and bouncy. I still have a couple of their vinyl albums in my basement. Any band bringing them back I'm cool with. (Not that they ever left. They performed live at the Copernicus Center in Chicago as recently as couple of years ago.). Bless Gorillaz, bless Sparks. Gotta question the imagination of anyone that doesn't get Sparks. And this brilliant collab.
Shame RP doesn't include a little bio of Sparks in here. Sorta disappointing. They deserve their due.
The first time I heard William play this cut, afterwards he referred to Sparks as a "cartoonish band". As compared to The Gorillaz? They are literal cartoons.
